Are contact lens REALLY harmless ?

I'm occasionally wearing contact lens (normally, I use glasses) but I always am skeptical about this.

Experts tell us that if you follow the following, then contact lens are 100% safe for ever.

>wearing it 8 hours per day maximum
>always put and remove contact lens after you wash you hands with soaps
>respect the durability of lens (depending of the lens: 1 day,15 days,30 days,180 days,...)
>putting the liquid to store your lens
>...

Do you truly believe that if you do all of that, contact lens will be 100% safes? Somehow, I doubt it...I'm almost sure they damage the eyes and brain in the short and long term and are very tiring for the eyes and brain to wear.

Give feedback, thanks.
PS: putting this on Jow Forums since no other appropriate board.

>8 hours a day max
I wear them well over 12 hours a day. Am I going to die?

>they damage the eyes and brain in the short and long term

I am retarded enough I use em for an entire month and been doing so for 5 years user, and I haven't got a single infection (I sleep using them during said month also)
This should tell you how safe they are, just get them

I do 16 hours.

Just don't wear them when you're not leaving the house. If you're inside for a day, wear glasses that day, as soon as you get home and stay home, take them out. Only put them in 10 minutes before you leave the house.
Just don't wear them when it's not necessary to wear them. That way you'll drastically reduce the amount of hours you'll wear them a week/month and it'll be better for your eyes in the long term.

If you wear them 16 hours a day, every day, for years. You will develop problems, your eyes need to rest.

>You will develop problems
got any sources

I should also mention, what kind of contact lens you get and how long you can have them in per day HIGHLY DEPENDS on the contact lens you buy. Some are only 8 hours long while others can be 16+ hours long, but if you wear 8 hour per day contact lens for 16 hours that's not going to be healthy either.

No, this is just what my opticians told me.
Better safe than sorry.

Shit
Wtf?
I wear them all day everyday, put them on as soon as I wake up take them off seconds before bed

Am I fucked? Should I switch back to glasses? I never leave the house anyway

whats this goy goblin convention about lads? Glasses are the biggest fuck up that exists i would never go back to them

I wore colored contact lenses for 8+ hours a day for five years and I still have perfect vision.

I've been wearing contact lenses everyday for about thirteen years, usually for 12-16 hours per day, sometimes more if I'm not sleeping much. My eyes have been at the same level for like six or seven years now (-4.25 both eyes). I've never really had any problems from wearing them too much or whatever. Contact lenses nowadays are much better than they used to be. I had problems with itchy and dry eyes sometimes with the old ones, and they were harder to get in, but the newer ones are much more breathable. You can even nap in the newer ones and even though they're dry when you wake up, after ten minutes they'll be moist again. You can barely notice them, seriously.

>tfw I wore the same pair of disposable contacts for over 2 years without taking them off once.

I would just put eye drops in when they'd get dry.
The optometrist was shocked I didn't get an eye infection, but told me my eye pressure was way too high for being so young. Glasses only from here on out.

>Experts tell us that if you follow the following, then contact lens are 100% safe for ever.
No they don't retard. Every eye doctor will tell you about the risk of infection, as well as the side effects of reduced oxygen to your cornea.

Entirely depends on the contact lens too. I'd say for now do your research on this subject rather than listening to anonymous forum posters on the internet.

Sorry user but how fucking stupid can you be.

When you first start wearing them, it seems scary, but honestly, as someone whos been wearing contacts for 5+ years:

1. The two week thing is just jew. I've worn contacts for 4-6 weeks, with no problem. They just want to charge you more. As long you take care with cleaning them (splurge for the good solutions), you will be fine.
2. Don't sleep in them. I'll admit I've slept in them before, but it seriously feels uncomfortable, and it will likely fuck up your eyes.

Other than that, once you get used to contacts, there is no fucking way you will go back to glasses. I recently got my glasses perscription done, and going from contacts to glasses you realize how shitty glasses are

1. NO peripheral vison. This is easily the most annoying thing about glasses. If you want to look at anything to the sides you have to move your whole head. This probably doesn't bother you now, because you probably currently wear glasses, but once your eyes "adjust" to contacts, you will find there are a ton of eye movements you can't do any more.
2. Completely TRASH warping at the edge of the frames. Seriously, I don't know how I never noticed when I wore glasses. The edge of your frames have terrible warping depending on the strength of your prescription due to the way lenses work. Essentially the farther away your eye is from lens, the more light "bends" into the frame then into your eye. It further LIMITS your field of view.

If you are scared of contacts, get LASIK. But honestly, there is nothing to be scared of. There are a 1000% superior solution to glasses. I recently redid my frames and dropped ~$400 on glasses AFTER INSURANCE. I tried them on and immediately went back to contacts. The compromise in visual fidelity makes no sense.

I developed ptosis on one eye after wearing contact lenses for 4 years. You have to pull your eyelid everytime you put them in and out. This causes muscles in your eyes to stretch. Not as severe as pic.

Attached: file.png (1024x534, 609K)

I was really lazy and had a phobia of touching my eye

What the fuck is wrong with you

My eyes are -1.5 and -3 is it even possible to get different lenses for both eyes?

>You have to pull your eyelid everytime you put them in and out.
How the fuck were you putting on your contacts? Are you a chink?

I find that my vision is better with glasses.

>having bad vision
ahahahah nigga just take some beta-carotene/vitamin A just fucking lmao at eyelets

Why the hell wouldn't it be?

not op, but it is
I got 3 and 4 ones and haven't changed in a few years, the problem is that you have to buy 2 boxes, one for each eye so instead of getting 3 months worth of glasses you get 6 months.

I am this btw

But human peripheral vision is shit anyway, I remember the video from a balding science man about it, you have the detailed view only in a small area in the center.

Yes.

>If you are scared of contacts, get LASIK.
DO NOT GET LASIK. lasikcomplications.com/
You don't have to pull that hard, all you're doing is lifting it up slightly for 10 seconds per day. What were you doing?
Contact lens never come as a pack, you get one for the left eye, one for the right. I have astigmatism in my left eye so I get delivered Toric lens for my left eye and normal lens for my right. -3.75 and -4.25.

>Asking Jow Forums instead of your optometrist
user...

>If you are scared of contacts, get LASIK
My mom was about to get LASIK and walked out when she had to write three times "If I go blind, I will not sue this practice." No thanks...

He's coming here because he doesn't trust his optometrist

There is no way you don't have permanent corneal damage by now

I only wear glasses in the evening before sleep. Have been wearing contacts for about 7 years, trying them probably was the best decision of my life.
t. about -7.5/-8.5 glasses and -6.5/-7.5 contacts

I've got scanned multiple times as my family has story of keratocone and nope, no damge.
also no keratocone either.

FUCK I tried wearing contacts once and it was a really shitty experience and couldn't take it, I swear it's just fear but I really want to make a permanent transition to contacts.

Is there a specific brand for pussies? I cannot even put fake tears because my eyes are so scared of anything getting near but seeing these posts make me a little more motivated to give them another chance

OP is a faggot. I wear my contacts over 10 hours a day daily and use dirty grimy insulation covered hands to take them out. Why are people such pussies?

>>respect the durability of lens (depending of the lens: 1 day,15 days,30 days,180 days,...)
Nice try Schlomo
>You have to pull your eyelid everytime you put them in and out
You don't. Take my word for it and start practicing until you get the hang of it.

Attached: 1498346709892.jpg (600x600, 39K)

I wear my 1 month lenses for 2 months instead. These are not the ones where you can wear them 24/7 tho. But still how fucked am I?

Wash your hands man. I got bacterial conjunctivits once - leaking pus from your eyes is not nice at all.
That's normal, it takes a while to get used to putting stuff on your eyes.

Same. Two failed appointments with the optometrist so far. My blink reflex fucks me over every time I try to put them in. Looks like its glasses for good.

>potentially compromising your eye health for like 10 pennies a day
Your eyes are fine, probably. Your brain however...

Exactly what I was doing, the ptosis isn't that severe, just slightly noticeable. I stopped wearing contact lenses after 5 years.

I literally wear contacts for 7-21 days at a time without taking them out, how bad is this?

You prob dead lol

It takes a few times to get used to them, your eyes need to adjust having contacts be put in and out.
Eventually you get used to it and you can put them in like you put a plaster on your arm.
Very bad, stop doing it.

>Accidentally fall asleep with contacts in
>wake up with my eyelids almost fuzed shut with mucus
What’s wrong with you people that sleep in them? Jesus Christ

I wear them when I lift, go to the beach or just feel like going out without glasses.

have wore them for 7 years without any problems, my eyes seewm to have stabilized in the last years too.
Rather wear them than have laser surgery

>1. The two week thing is just jew. I've worn contacts for 4-6 weeks, with no problem. They just want to charge you more. As long you take care with cleaning them (splurge for the good solutions), you will be fine.

Seconded. Good solution is key.

Attached: man of integrity.png (640x478, 342K)

No they aren't. Long use changes the shape of your eye (this is why if you want to get LASIK, you go 2-3 weeks without contacts depending on the contact material). Other than that, there is a chance that it will introduce a bacterial infection. Not completely harmless.

Who keratoconus here?

>tfw wear contacts 14 hours a day, every day
>tfw glasses only correct one of my eyes properly whereas lenses fix both
>tfw want to do off grid living because the system is going to collapse but then I remember my eyes are fucked without the system and medical care

I shall buy a lifetime supply of lenses, glasses and lens solution and hope my eyes don't change too much as I get older. The good news being that keratoconus stabilises as you get older.

Lenses are cool though OP, they don't really affect my life in the negative. Easy to put in and remove when you get used to it. I get yearly eye tests and my optician says my eyes are healthy (as healthy as they're ever going to be).

I wear OTTO K lenses (or something like that, not sure on the real name)

It is a lens which you sleep with and take out in the morning.
It shapes you eye back to it proper form and makes your eyesight normal. supposed it also prevents your eyesight from getting worse.

They are awesome because you can do whatever the fuck I want throughout the day and not worry if my lens falls out, cause I'm not wearing any.

Same issue here, I think I have dry eyes or something. I've tried like 10 different brands, even the most expensive breathable bullshits you're supposed to be able to sleep in, and I can't even nap for 10-15 minutes without them drying up and making my eyes bloodshot and irritated.
I have a friend who just wears his 24/7 for months and doesn't notice shit, and I can't go a full day without feeling them start bugging my eyes.

>tfw when I used to box and got punched sometimes my contacts would pop out
>had to spend the rest of the training sparring with one dead basically dead

well at least it was good practice if I ever had one swollen eye

Something similar happened to me. I went swimming with my contacts as i usually do and by some luck the contact got picked off by water collision.

Had to drive with one eye closed, wasnt fun. I carry backup lenses and/or glasses with me now but i feel like it was just an unlucky situation

i once wore the same set of lenses for 4 days, with zero side effects

>swimming with my contacts
you're risking getting infected with eye destroying amoebas my man

did you sleep with them in? or take them out every now and then to lubricate with solution

Just use glasses, what the fuck is wrong with you faggots?

i think contact lenses are actually better for your eyes than glasses desu

with my glasses being such a high power -6.00ish i get them thinned and there is light refraction on the edge giving my phone screen a blue glow at certain angles and my fingers a green glow it's fucked up

but then with contact lenses it's perfect im sure the light refraction does some damage to your perception because my mind constantly has to recognise it's happening with glasses

can some medfag or /sci/ guy explain why they put durability on the lenses for a number x days?

what's wrong with wearing them for longer than recommended?? is it a money making scheme or does something actually happen to the material

Depends on the material made up of the lenses.

Some lenses are very rigid and great for certain types of eye problems e.g. Astigmatism. But because they are hard, they do not permit as much oxygen through to the eye so wearing continuously
puts your eye at risk of dying.

Other softer lenses do permit oxygen through and can be worn for long periods but at the expense of correcting the problem adequately.

Just save up and get laser eye surgery.

and go blind 20 years later lmao ok bud

Thanks god i have a perfect vision.

I wear contacts only when I go out to play soccer, fight or party/chill with friends.

So like maybe 3 out of 7 days for 8 or 12 hours? Will this fuck up my eyes?

Most likely no. Refer to what the pack says though.

i only buy 30days lenses. i let them in for 30days and sleep with them. when they feel uncomfortable i throw them away and put new ones in. i do this for years now and don't have any sideeffects.
but i guess this depends on the quality of the lenses.

nigga what the fuck

>DONT SLEEP WITH CONTACTS

>I'm almost sure they damage the eyes and brain in the short and long term and are very tiring for the eyes and brain to wear.

"I have no evidence, but I'm almost sure of it!"

I've done this for years but depends on the contacts.

nah, I wear 30 day continuous wear lens. They're great. Sometimes i keep them in longer than 30 days- they start getting blurry from a buildup of protein at that point. Switch'em out and I'm good to go.

I knew a guy that would put in a pair of contacts and leave them in for months because he didn't like touching his eyes. Just sleep with them in and everything. Scared the ever loving shit out of me but he seemed to be okay.

Attached: jesus christ how horrifying (2).jpg (428x330, 48K)

Ive been using the 30-day contacts and i keep them for 4-5 months until they start looking blurry. Literally nothing wrong happened.

Fucking hell, suddenly I'm so glad I don't need glasses. Guess I always took this for granted. Still a balding manlet tho, kek...

I've been re-using one a day lenses for a month now i just keep them clean. I have to go to a eye doctor soon to get new glasses I only have those contacts if those are gone then I can't see shit. Sometimes my contacts used to slip in the back of my eye and they would come back out of the tear duct of my eye after a few days. Covered in yellow stuff. Was real gross.

same here, been doing it for close to ten years, the first year i had ones you need to take out everyday and they suck. Breathable 30 day contacts are brilliant and it really does take months before you notice a significant blurriness. No changes in my eyes for years, and the changes before that I'm sure are an error in testing, it's really hard to say what looks better or clearer between tiny variations and one of my eyes "changed" 0.25

GET CONTACTS YOU STUPID FAGGOTS GLASSES ARE FUCKING GAY

I use the ones that you can use for 30 days/times but have to take them out after youre done with them and store in those little containers with the liquid.
can clearly notice by the last days of the advised use that theyre shittier on the eyes

>30 day contacts
>wear them for 6+ months
>only take them out every other day
>usually leave them in sat and sunday night
Ill probably be a bling eyelet by the time im 40

Attached: 0D474519-AC67-4FFB-B912-D631841191FC.jpg (750x933, 530K)

you guys would put me in a meme if you had any idea how long I've been wearing this one pair.

Attached: IMG_7283.png (320x320, 90K)

my goodness user - is optometry a lie?

My dad has been wearing them for 30 years. They're fine.

dear gosh

>t.faggot

so why limit our already poor periphery

quads of armored skepticism

I've been wearing them since 13. 31 now.

Just make sure you wash your hands before you handle them. Make sure you don't use them more than a month or two (30 times for each pair).

AND NEVER EVER EVER SLEEP WITH THEM.

literally it get SOO easy after you do it for like a week - the blink reflex dissipates

>always practice safe contact habits
>new pair, been using them for 3-4 days
>out with friends/at work
>contacts have been fine all day
>suddenly one gets dry and scratchy
>vision blurs
>the contact falls out of my eye

FUCKING WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY IT KEEPS HAPPENING

Attached: 1500153446270.png (808x805, 480K)

its bad because you eyes need oxygen to function - wearing all day restricts that and sleeping already limits eye oxygen intake so having a plastic layer preventing it completely makes things worse.

How sensitive were your eyes when you took off those contacts though

I've been wearing glasses since I was about 10, I recently got contacts to try them and they feel uncomfortable. I keep needing to blink a lot but my optician says this will go away as I get used to them.. but really I think the main reason I feel uncomfortable is because I've been wearing glasses for so long I think I look fucking weird without them and it's making me super self consious, like to the point where I can't even make eye contact with people because I feel so ugly. I can't leave the house with them on now and I think I'm just gunna try to wear them when I'm alone and put on my glasses when I go out.

>depends on the quality of the lenses
depends whether you get infection or damage from lack of oxygen in eyes

say it bitch

>get a 30 day supply of daily disposables
>had the same box since November, need to order one more soon
I use a pair until I see halos or they start irritating my eyes, usually 5 to 8 days. In first thing morning, out in container right before bed.

Nigger i would die of panic if i lostma contact lens behind an eye, and you had it happen more than once. Jesus christ

>Eye smegma

And I thought I had seen it all on this shit hole.

I wouldn't risk it. I don't fuck around with my eyes. I got lasik and stopped wearing contacts but I never slept on them and I washed them religiously

>Lifting it up
>Not pull into the bottom down

The absolute state of brainlets

>Nearly half of all people who had healthy eyes before Lasik developed visual aberrations for the first time after the procedure
Because it's for people who are already having visual aberrations? One if my high school teachers got LASIK done and he's doing great

I got lasik 15+ years ago and it was like this
glasses : SD
contacts: HD
lasik: ULTRA HD
was blind as a bat too, couldn't see beyond 3 feet, everything was a blur, my glasses were coke bottoms
