/running/ thread

I ran 100 miles in a week for the first time, the only thing I got out of it was realizing that running won't cure my depression stemming from a shitty childhood.

I need some advise on shoes.

Anyone have suggestions that aren’t autistic?

its honestly something that you have to learn as you run more. however nike pegasus series are really popular and are pretty good, probably a good place to start.

I have just been working on my 5k time so that my first actual event isn’t lackluster. I’m down to a 23:45 so far. I’d like to get it below 20:00.

I run with Nike pro run knit. I like them a lot and I never got shin splints again.

I have a pair of Nike air huraches I could use for running. Will they fuck my shit up?

5k doesnt count

HAHAHA LE NIGGRES ARE LE GOOD AT LE RUNNING

d-do I fit in yet guise!!!!!???

>5k doesn’t count
Some of us have upper body muscles and running extremely long distances is hard on the rest of the body.

Running is too rough... I rollerblade a lot, about 1,5h a day 4 days a week.

Not the best cardio exercise, but works legs and glutes... and most importantly doesn't wear down articulations. I'm a 35yo boomer so, it's not the same as when I was 20.

>rollerblade
are you 12?

True I can bench 245lb at 165lb bw and can only run 6:20 mile and nothing more

oh my god no one asked and no.one.cares

Try running sub 16 for a 5k and then tell me if it doesn't count

>I rollerblade a lot,
hehehe GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

my knees hurt for days after i run, then i can’t run for a few days. how do i stop this so i can run 2-3x a week without pain

Buy a good running shoe, learn to run properly

Just joined a 21k half marathon. I've never ran over 5k in my life. What should I do in the next four months? I think I am fucked desu senpai

fuck off back to r*ddit

If I'm coming back from an injury and cycling some sort of PED that improves endurance. Could I use it during my 6 weeks of base training (+6 weeks of race training) or should I wait andbuse the entire 12 week cycle during my race training until I get to my race training months which will include more speedwork and etc. ? Since I'm not using anything for recovery I figure that I could use some it during base training and still benefit from the endurance gains instead of going too hard in my sessions that will be more slightly anaerobic and burning myself out.

Go to a running shop and have a gait assessment. They’ll recommend something that works for you.

Anything else is pointless.

Run a 5k, then gradually increase distance... Or just follow a training plan on the Nike Run Club app

nice

Holy shit Let's Run really is teeming with boomers.

minimalist barefoot running shoes

I wish I could run. Taking see time off because plantar fasciitis.

Anyone?

i have altra escalantes, supposed to be the best...

Is it a bad idea to run today if I have a timed run to do tomorrow?

3 mile military test fwiw

I feel some discomfort in the inside part of my ankle. It's not too bad but I'm concerned about upping my running from 3 to 5 times per week. Did my first concurrent run day yesterday and the discomfort was worse than usual.

What should I do here? I have a pair of mizunos but they're at Uni so I have been running in my ultraboosts.

I have some bright yellow Inov8 running shoes that I like.

Is it a good idea to run if I live in a middle of the city (so bad air quality all around) and am 100kg from squatting and such?

I need some advise on running with asthma guys.

I keep running out of breath, even with breathing techniques, good form, and medication. My lungs are still holding me back. I am training nearly everyday and am making some progress, but I need to be ready for a physical fitness test on the 6th.

Is there anything more I can do?

this has to be the dumbest thing i've heard on a running thread, just because your fat ass can job a 5k, doesn't mean you can race it well

I hate to break it to you, but recreational competitive running is largely a boomer sport.

wow i bet you get so much pussy

I will second and tell you to locate the nearest running shop. I was very fortunate to be helped by a retired track coach of ~25 years. He immediately could see what kind of shoe I needed and helped me til I found the perfect pair. I paid $120 (no clothing tax in PA) and have used them countless times since. You really have no idea how much you need actual running shoes until you run in some.

Are you breathing 3 - 2? Learning to stabilize my inhaling and exhaling is what got me going with running.

>started running one month ago
>Couch to 5K
>stuck with it and can now easily run 5 minutes straight
>I remember when 1.5 minutes was really difficult

Feels ultra good, man.

That's in through the nose on 3 steps and out through the mouth on 2 right? I've been having a bad habit of starting it mid run, but i'm fixing it

Is there anything you can do to speed up your recovery from injury?

Can you be more specific as to what it is? Different injuries require different methods for healing

Good job. Keep it up.

Good idea to do bridge to 10k 3 days a week and lift the other three? I'm thinking of doing a routine
S, T, TH run and M, W, F work out saving legs day for friday so I give my legs a day to rest.

Peroneal tendonitis

Anyone?

Might just do 1.5 miles.

>rained for the third day in a row
i just want to run please stop god

depends on how much you run normally

None really. I run a 26min 3 mile now. This is prior to enlistment. I can do 18 pullups and 100 crunches in 2mins but have no wind because I'm lazy outside of lifting. I already scored a passing run time last week (under 28 mins) so assuming I'm no less fit I should be fine I guess.

Seems like stretching and icing your leg would probably be your best bet. Also using a boot to stop your ankle from moving will also help with he healing posses.

It seems like you'll do fine. Just don't try to break any records today or do anything to crazy.

Reminder that there's a Strava group for anyone interested strava.com/clubs/fitizens

Get a rain coat you lazy fuck.

>I need some advise on shoes.
>doesn't provide any information
Gee I wonder why you keep getting autistic suggestions.

>tendo
Man I've had this for 1.5 weeks and after 5 days the 24/7 burning finally went away. I am going to take another week off. Just yesterday I was walking and my foot fucking seized up for like 6 minutes. It was extremely painful and didn't even seem related. I hate being injured.

I got mine last Wednesday. Thought it got better so I decided to do intervals on Sunday. Bad idea. Gonna take advice and take it easy this week. Not running makes me feel lazy though.

Yeah I feel like a piece of shit. But yeah stretches and the massages are the way to go. Hopefully it won't take too long. Good luck user.

I am kinda stuck so help me out.
I can run 6 miles in about 40-50 minutes if i want to but my pulse is always exploding during the last third.
Been running at a slower pace & with walking breaks to keep my pulse down for 3 month.
have made exactly 0 improvements, pulse still explodes if i keep running at a constant pace without break.
How to git gud?

How long should one take to build up for long distance runs? I did a 10k on Sunday night and felt fine. Have some stiffness in my calves. I want to keep pushing. I don't want to blow my knees up or something stupid.

>running in mud for 3 miles and back

weird.
maybe try doing some HIIT?

Never going to make it
I actually get more motivated whenever the weather sucks. Running during a heavy snowstorm is the best fucking shit.

Okay if your not running any, then don't run any before your run, because you'll get sore probably

hi jack

Hal Higdon half marathon training plan. Before the training schedule starts to kick in, run 3-4 times a week. Just make it 3 or 4 mile runs at a reasonable pace, and try to have Sunday be your long run day. Make that run 5 miles, increase distance slowly over time.

And ffs pls don't run with music. Focus on your breathing. Try to coordinate your breathing with your strides (4 steps per breath for easy pace, 3 steps per breath for training pace, 2 steps per breath for race pace). It's not an exact science obviously but it'll help you get adjusted.

I know why people do the nose inhale, but the best way to get oxygen and not run out of breath is to breathe through your mouth the whole time.

You can still follow 3-2 if you want. I usually alter the number depending on exerition level. 3-3, then 3-2, then 2-2 if I'm struggling but want to keep pace. Don't be afraid to adjust your damn pace if you're running out of breath!

it's not couch to 5 minutes, user

All of my times have dropped by about 30 seconds this week in comparison to last week and I’m really not sure why

maybe its because you got faster

I cover 10 miles a day at work. It's unreal how good the low intensity exercise is for your overall fitness. I don't need to do much running and still maintain good fitness.

Shit sorry meant the other way round, as in my times got 30 seconds worse, not better

thoughts on Nike pegasus 34 for someone new to running?

They'll make you go fast and you will never get shin splints. Awesome choice.

I run trails in the forest a lot. I ran a 10k yesterday with a 11:20 pace. I noticed towards the end of my run yesterday that I try to stay in the center of the trail instead of picking a side and following it all the way through. Trying to stay in the middle of a trail is a lot harder than picking a side because you don't have much of a visual reference of your next step so i kind of wobbled back from the left side to the right a lot. Today I actually kept to one side the whole time and did a lot better.

Just getting into running (only two weeks in). What's the purpose of the run/walk method on beginner programs - is it to give your legs a break or give your lungs a break? I could comfortably run 20-30mins, maybe more, right now but I want to make sure I don't overdo it. On the other hand I don't want to take 8 weeks to be able to run 5k.

Right now I'm just running ten minutes at a time, almost exactly a mile, every other day. Would adding 5 mins every other run be steady enough progression?

>15+ reps is for endurance

My mile time is 5:02. Can I unironically do some sets of 20-30 squats/RDLs for that "endurance" and improve my time?

New Balance Zante
Saucony Kinvara

Those are zero drop shoes. Meant to be eased into for use. You are still probably running wrong too.

You need to slow down the 6 miles for one thing. Then you need to push beyond 6 miles for some or your runs, slow enough where you don't stop. Then the 6 miles won't be as hard.

Running in the rain, especially in the summer, is the best though.

To give your lungs/heart a break and probably your legs too. But just start at a point in the training program that you feel you can do and go from there. No need to start at the very beginning of the program if it's way below your current level.

Used to play a lot of soccer but now have devoted more time to running. Still play though.

Just about to finish up Pfitzs base training plan for 30 miles a week in his faster road racing book. Going to move on to the 45 miles a week program next and then reassess.

Currently running 9 miles for my long run right around 8:00/mile. I havent done anything shorter or for speed in a while so I'm going to do a mile time trial tomorrow to see where I'm at, just because. I want to eventually get down to a 5 minute mile. I'm only base training right now though so no specific work has gone into it yet. Going to shoot for sub 5:30 as main goal and sub 5:40 as the secondary goal. We'll see if that's too ambitious or not. I did 4x800s a month ago and my last two sets were 3:01/3:02/2:58/2:53 so I think I can do it with another month or so of running under my belt and a proper warmup.

issa good shoe

Can running on a treadmill make you more prone to injury? Before I knew anything about running I basically built my base on my treadmill. I was running 30 miles a week on it (which seems really boring now). Pretty much as soon as I tried to the same mileage on the pavement I got injured pretty quickly. Do treadmills fuck up your form or something? Do they make you stomp? I filmed my form and it seems way better than I thought but I definitely don't feel light on my feet. Would strides help that?

I quit smoking a month ago and started running to stave off the withdrawals. My lungs were so fucked in the beginning christ. Running 25 mpw and just hit a 21 min 5k. Next goal is sub 18, wish me luck bros.

Pegasus 34 or 35

is he running from the popos?

They don't properly prepare you for outside running. I did the same thing and the first time I ran on a track I was hurting for 2 weeks. A treadmill doesn't work all of the muscles in your body that help you properly run in pavement. Moral of the story is fuck treadmills

Fuck off Jow Forumstard

how do I find an open track to run on

my local high school's is closed, do I really have to go to different high schools and check if their track is open to the public?

Nike Flex RN are pretty light and good. Great all around shoe.

Google [name of your town] Athletic (or Gymnastic) Association

High schools, colleges, public parks, wherever you can find. Why is the high school closed though? Construction or do they just not allow people to use it?

51 bucks now on Nikes site to whatever sizes are left. Runrepeat is good for looking at reviews and prices.

I run laps around my house

Does anyone here know where I can find that chart that tells you how long you should run when you're a fat out of weight piece of shit who browses r9k all day?

is it the one with the cute anime girl
