Football (soccer) players or 100m sprinters legs have the best sizes and proportions. They just look the most athletic. Any quad size beyond that is disproportionate (if your vastus lateralis pops out of your leg and makes your knee look small) and unnecessary weight, unless you are a professional sprint cyclist/oly lifter/powerlifter.
Oversized quads compared to posterior chain is one the easiest cues to separate gym rats from athletes.

Just do pistol squats. Weighted if you want but they're really nice to mantain strength even without Weights. They won't help you build much mass and if you're already getting close to your limit (as i assume you are) then you won't expect much gains from them, but what they will do is give you strong as hell legs.
