First time doing bench press today and I did 100kg x 9
I've only ever done dips (I do 15-20 rep sets of dips at 90kg bodyweight.
It is interesting how the dips carry over so well to bench pressing.
Why does nobody talk about this here?

First time I've heard about this. I'm going to try doing more dips then. I am curious whether or not there are other exercises that directly carry over to each other.
Fatpower
Haven't tried anything else yet, probably is a lot more though.
I have abs and I'm not even big at 90kg, I'm just tall.
Try incline dumbell shoulder press
ok short arm bitch
Because there is virtually no carryover. I do full-ROM dips with 45kg hanging under my balls for 5 reps and still cannot do bench press with 100kg.
>Doing low rep dips
There's your problem bud
is this your first time lifting? were you doing bodyweight before this?
You're either lying or doing something terribly wrong
Your form is either absolute trash, you do lots of other chest excercises or you're lying
92kg dipper here
i do 5x5 dips with +40kg,
and i incline bench 5x5 at 95kg
seems to carry over fine indeed
see
you are doing some shit wrong bud
Dips carryover to a narrower grip bench press.
Keep doing dips. Your triceps will jump out of your arm and shake your hand theyll be so thankful, and they will progress at LIGHTSPEED. Use a weight if you can do more than 15 revolutions though. It will feel like you're being sucked into a BLACK HOLE, but it's worth it to acquire that density.
>gym has no spot to do dips
First time ever and im suppose to believe you did 2.5 pl8 bench for reps?
I did dips regularly and my shoulders begin to get really sore. Am I doing something wrong? My triceps saw definite results.
where did you get 2.5pl8?
100kg is 2pl8
>t.brainlet
Yes.
You were born genetically inferior.
weird, since ive started doing weighted dips my bench has been increasing nicely. I guess it depends whether you focus on chest dips or tri dips or both.
I’m op
I don’t feel Dips on my shoulders, I get a really deep chest stretch and pump with my dips. I feel it on my chest mostly and triceps secondary
you claim to be 90 kg while tall (things that work against you while benching due to longer ROM) and doing 100 kgx9 the first time? Either half-repping and not touching your chest or you're full of shit. And that dip number isn't even good compared to the bench, so stop lying on the internet
i do bodyweight dips and bench 160kg
>doing weighted dips
Uh the sets of 15-20 dips I do at 90kg have much more of a range of motion for my chest stretching than the bench press I did today.
The rom and stretch on my chest on the bench press seems like 30-40% less than the rom and stretch on dips. That is probably way the bench seemed so easy, it has less rom than dips. Yes I am touching my chest, the rom on dips is way bigger.
It seems that dips have the best rom, 2nd dumbbells and 3rd barbell
why does my collarbone hurt when i do dips ?
>192cm
>90kg
>legit skelly
pain is suffering
don't let your shoulders roll forward
KINGLY quads
I dip with 30kg and my bench is 100kg - something's wrong with you my guy.
AndSeeIt’s all about scapular depression and retraction (google it, totally serious)

tfw can't even do 1plate
i'm stuck on 55kgs
i'm 187cm 68kgs
that sounds a bit too skinny, fren
I was in the same situation, same height, weight, bench. I got my bench up a lot mostly by improving form to make sure I bench with the chest and not so much with my triceps. Also did a bunch of accessory lifts to target triceps and hit them hard and often. Got up to 1pl8 at 183cm 68kg but from this point on I think the biggest focus should be on bulking up.
Really? That doesn't sound right. I can easily do 15-20 dips at 83kg bodyweight and I don't even train dips, yet my bench is only 100kg for 1. Are you using the smith machine or something? Or bouncing the weight up?
This means you're a skinny twink if your pressing power is so low but you're able to add weight to dips
I wanted to add dips to my routine but I felt a weird pain/stretch in my sternum. I thought it was just normal workout muscle feels but my friend told me to stop doing dips if they hurt cause they can really snap my shit up. Is this true? How can I fix this?
SS+GOMAD
Primary muscle groups used in bench press are pectorals, deltoids, triceps, lats, core, glutes/quads in that order more or less.
Dips are the squats for upperbody pressing. Focusing almost entirely on the lower pectorals, all tricep heads, all delts, lats and even core. If you can put that much of your bodyweight on extra to pump out dips but cant benchpress worth a shit, you are either lying about your dip weight or your ROM is 1cm seizure swing with 45lbs strapped to your nuts.
Fuck it, take two benches, and grip on to the pad when it's upright like an "L". Do them weighted and No-one will fuck with you.
Ever since I started doing pullups weighted (only 15kg and one pl8 negatives) others don't even bitch about me hogging the pullup bar or ask to work in.
dips can absolutely hit chest if you lean forward. i wouldn’t say it’s a primary chest exercise but i’ve always read that forward angle hits chest more, vertical hits tris more
>dips are good for chest
You must be some kind of genius op
yes you can break your sternum if you have chest pain from dips
easiest fix is to stop doing dips
best replacement is close grip decline bench
using your logic and stats powerlifters should be able to do dips for hours straight, repping in the hundreds
Dips are meme nonsens for retards who don't actually work out but want to look like they do and gear heads who're mugging for the camera.
It's something to play around with once you're already done with or are in the middle of doing a real chest workout
