Salmon tastes good as it is. All it needs is some salt and pepper, with an optional lemon squeeze at the end of the cooking process before you take it off.

Really all you have to worry about is cooking it properly. Nothing worse than overcooked salmon, especially when a a proper rare-to-medium-rare salmon is heavenly. My rule of thumb is to cook on a pan 2 minutes per side for perfect doneness. If you're grilling, then your timing will probably be different.

I eat it raw

This is my favorite salmon recipe

I put half a cup of water in the oan and it turns out soft as silk but for 3-4 mins for each side. Should i cut down on the time?

I just cover it in pesto and put it in the oven. With salmon I'll typically have fried asparagus or green beans

A little salt and if you know how to use a frying pan , it's as good as it can get.

my favourite is this but it takes time
>oven on low heat (maybe 90-100 celsius)
>zest a lemon and chop up the zest
>chop some nuts (i go for hazelnuts, pine nuts and cashews but do your thing)
>chop some herbs (I go for sorrel and parsley but do your thing)
>mix the nuts and lemon zest
>put salmon fillet(s) in an oven proof dish in a little olive oil so they dont stick
>sprinkle over the nut and lemon mix
>sprinkle over the herb mix
>put it in the oven for 40 mins
>done

Its really good but different ovens treat it differently as its such a slow cook. Might have to try it more than once to nail how long your oven takes to get it just right

Or don't cook it.

Thanks. Any other fish recipes?

For many years I thought salmon was disgusting because I used to cook it until every inch of the fish turned whitey pink.
Then I tried sushi with salmon and was amazed at how tasty that fish can be if you don't overcook it.
Now I cook it properly and it's my favourite fish after sea bass.
If you don't want to eat it plain try this making this sauce and drizzle it on the fish.
After you've seared your fillets remove them from the pan and throw in the following

1 tbsp proper cow's milk butter
0.5 tbsp muscovado sugar
1 garlic clove mashed
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp onions sauce
0.5 tsp fresh mashed ginger
Pepper

Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour over your fish.

It's the easiest and tastiest salmon sauce I've ever made and I've tried countless during my attempts at making overcooked salmon palatable. First time I made this I literally devoured the fish, it's the goat

That's an option as well, although it requires more trust from wherever you get your fish from. A compromise I like is to sear the outsides quickly on high heat so that the center is warm and raw

So you braise your salmon? IDK, I have no experience with that, I was just referring to a normal cook in a pan. If you like it that way, then it's good.

I cook tuna steaks in a similar manner with just some salt and pepper (and maybe toasted sesame seeds). Cook on the highest heat you can and sear it on either side for a very brief time so it's crusted on the outside and basically raw inside. I'm talking like 1.5 minutes total, both sides. Don't want to overcook tuna or else it's like canned tuna. ie, disgusting.

Another thing I like to do is grilled swordfish that's been covered in a mix of (fresh) garlic, semi-melted butter, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and basil.

I fucking love fish. If I were richer I'd be eating fish every day of the week.

farmed salmon is below farmed chicken they douse their ponds with pesticides bc salmon are supposed to live in the open seas not in a net in the ocean so you get monsantoed

Yeah, just like literally everything else, whether meat, plant, or fungus. I'm not paying 20 bucks/lb for wild caught alaskan salmon though.

Coat them with sesame seeds (unhulled) and fry in a pan with some oil. I like rapeseed because it's pretty neutral.

Good thread, I wish we had more threads about cooking. One thing that's always bugged the shit out of me on Jow Forums is all the DYECs who can't cook for shit and eat nothing but pre-fabricated junkfood and disgusting meme recipes like "whey pancakes" or "tuna/egg burgers"

Cooking is an infinitely valuable skill to have. Yeah you can go full autismo and only look at macros and not give a shit about anything else, but there's so much more than that. You can make food taste good, which is valuable whether bulking or especially cutting. You're almost guaranteed to be eating healthier too. And it's a fun hobby and people will genuinely like you and appreciate you if you can cook for them.

put salmon fillets skin side up in an oven-proof dish
pour in water until it reaches half way up the fillets
season liberally
put in the oven at ~150'c while you're at the gym
when they're ready, the skin will peel right off and the flesh will be perfectly moist and flaky

My wife pan fries it until its nearly cooked, cuts a slit in the pieces, then stuffs them with rosemary and goat cheese.
10/10 would recommend

eat it raw

you coud go by the pick you posted. melted butter, fresh dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

Oven-baked, on a bed of salt. I like to season with lemon pepper before. Serve with swedish mandel potatoes, homemade hollandaise sauce and some green stuff(Peas, boiled carrots, broccoli etc).

Your mouth is gonna have a fucking orgasm.

Thanks! I recently discovered the joy of good cooked food. It is much more fullfilling than a kilo of anything junk related. I am fairly good qmwith red meat but with fish im basically useless

I love goat cheese. Definetely trying this one

With tasty fish (salmon, swordfish, tuna, and so on) it's all about how you cook it. They naturally taste good with minimal additions. Things only get more complicating with shitty fish like tilapia that's totally flavorless on its own and you have to go out of your way to dress it up with spices or making it into fish tacos or something.

Also if you're a total noob to cooking, I'd recommend watching Good Eats with my main man Alton Brown. Really good advice for beginners and the episodes are broken down to different foods/ingredients. When I first moved into an apartment during college I watched this and it's basically how I learned to cook.

>My rule of thumb is to cook on a pan 2 minutes per side for perfect doneness

what does this even fucking mean

fuck you

are you thick?
>get pan hot
>put salmon in pan
>wait 2 minutes
>turn salmon over
>wait 2 minutes
>consume (eat) ((put in your mouth and chew (move your jaw to grind the salmon between your teeth) until it falls down your throat))

It means nothing, don't take that advice. Only a total retard would heat both sides of a piece of salmon. The only part of that fish touching the pan should be the skin.

>>get pan hot

hot is relatively you fucking retard

you'll be using a fucking hob, you child, just turn it on and wait

maybe I'm boring but I just put it in the over with lemon juice or onions sauce, salt, pepper, and rosemary.

Use some seasalt (lol no it's not healthier but larger crystals make it easier to distribute)
Throw on a tiny dash of habanero-TINY. Add generous onion and garlic.
Squeeze a little lemon juice on to it.

you can use this spice rub on any fish to make it delicious:
1 part paprika
1 part garlic powder
1 part ground cumin
1 part saffron (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste. Works well for chicken also.

Most poorfag fish option is tuna patties.

"Now on the treasure truck, 1lb of salmon and 1 lb of asparagus for 22 bucks"

marinate in basedsauce/pepper and bake with cut garlic

Watch your fish intake. You build up mercury which takes some time to leave the body. Generally, 3 portions per week is safe enough.

salmon hardly has any mercury at all.
the benefits outweight the risks for almost any fish anyway. Tuna and swordfish should be limited a bit, but generally eat as much fish as you want as it's healthy as fuck.

>all these over-analyzing autistic children role playing as le professional chef requiring 12 step process to make a meal

Its really fucking simple.
>preheat oven to 420f
>salt, pepper & paprika both sides (hopefully you got it with skin on if you're not a pleb)
>sear on a hot ass pan for 2m each side
>transfer to hot ass oven for 10m

congrats you have better-than-restaurant delicious aesthetic fish in

cooking is a gains goblin

>1 tsp onions sauce
love me some onions sauce

Salmon with lemon is one of my favorite foods of all time and I don't particularly like fish. Usually just pop it in the oven with some veggies and olive oil and it comes out amazing every single time.

Make sure the skin is burnt so it is crispy

Fucking thank you user Jesus Christ I just wanna know how to cook a fish not make 1 component of a 12 course meal.

im not this guy but the pan searing into oven method works well for any meat.
make sure the pan is something like stainless steel and has no plastic whatsoever

Drop butter on the pan untill slightly brown, then ad crushed garlic and honey so you get a nice sauce, squeeze some lemon on it (you can also add some s-oy sauce for a little more flavour)
Then you lower It to medium heat and put the salmon and slices of lemon on the pan
Make sure the pieces are moistened with the sauce (use a spoon to cover them) and add salt and pepper, then put a lid on let it cook in that medium heat.
When its done, i recommend brown rice and some broccoli for garnish

if you're gud enough make sushi, it's bomb as fuck, especially if you're bulking.
