As I said, I mostly had self defense in my mind, at least I hope so, and a switchblade looks more intimidating.
I got one that goes out "forward" out of the handle, so it's sharp on both sides I think.

I don't like knifes too much for that purpose . Depending on your legislation you might catch some premeditation or malice in court even for a legit self defense just because you had it along.
Better to have interesting worktools or hobby items with dual use imo.

Besides, blades can kill too easily when you may not intend to but panic, and you would not even know what damage you did.

Nothing wrong with being responsible for your own safety OP.I carry a fixed blade double edged boot knife. It's not very sharp but it has a hell of a point. It would puncture through ribs very easily. When I'm 21 I'll get my CCW. I'll probably just carry a small .380 semi auto or a .357/.38 snub nose.

If a knife is machete size or greater, then yeah you'll have an advantage but step up to me with a blade any smaller than that and I'll still put you in the ground with my bare hands.

Cancel the purchase because it's useless in the case where someone mugs you.
When you get mugged it's likely by more than one person. Not only that, but a knife doesn't have immediate stopping power, so you could stab the fucker but still get fucked over because he just pushed through the pain with the adrenaline and stabbed you back.
Get a Bear spray. That will certainly stop however many people from mugging you and will also render them incapacitated from causing you any harm.
