Useless. Just squat. Everyone I see who does leg press without squatting looks like shit
First time I used it I broke two ribs. Other than that I think it's great for building muscles until you can squat or do lunges properly.
10/10 I literally almost blew an eardrum doing max because I didn't breathe correctly.
is good for legs
i like it, i feel like driving a mecha every time i use it
i heard in middle school that arnold schwarzenegger did this in order to be able to suck his own dick
Its bretty good if you plan on giving birth soon or just want to push a shit ton of fucking weight to stroke your ego.
I heard the same thing about Marilyn Manson.. The Internet is a magnificent thing.
I should probably do them
Honestly, they scare me.
That snap city webm scared me away from them
>the slight crack as her knee bends
ego lifting: the machine
Same
I just got snap'd this week doing squats with improper form. Without anyone to guide or help or spot me, wouldn't leg press be a safer alternative?
>granted only if I don't lock my knees
I use them on top of squats for better quad activation. I don't really feel it in the big part of my quads when I squat, just that area right near the knee. So I squat then do these and it seems to be working okay
great for a useful but "easy" assistance movement. shit for pure strength development.
Assuming your gym's leg press has a safety function, yes. Mine has a little peg to set where the weight will catch if you fail a rep, but I've been to gyms where it doesn't and I had to pull the weight off of one of my buddies who bit off more than he could chew.
You ain't helping
Leg press is more uncomfortable than just squatting for me
t. guy with knee problems
Mine does have a safety function, yeah. Thanks
People should not hate the leg press, obviously squatting is important, but Leg press allows you to focus much more on the legs themselves, where as the squat isn't just legs but also your lower back and core.
how did you fuck up?
Squatting is more important* but leg press is a good supplement in my opinion.
I dont think my back stayed straight. I've been favoring my left IT band, so my hips kinda got out of alignment on the way up, and now days later I'm still walking around like a robot
sorry my man, that's like the biggest risk, maybe try high-bar instead of low bar
It's a good way to stretch and tire out my legs after heavy squats
Lol I think the exact same thing. Good to know i'm not the only one.
Also leg press is great. Way less stress on your body than squatting and much harder to fuck up your form. Idiots on Jow Forums swearing by squats is literally a meme. Leg press is much safer and all you need. If anyone wants to call bullshit on that, just consider that Dorian Yates only ever used a leg press, he never squatted.
great for building big thick girly legs
I do the same for quads. I’ve also been experimenting on where I put my feet on the platform for maximum quad activation.
this, I’ve been making massive ass gains and I think this exercise is the main reason why
>Dorian Yates only ever used a leg press, he never squatted.
As someone that can't squat because of injury, I find this incredibly uplifting and I can't believe I've never heard it before.
>great for building big thick girly legs
wtf I love leg presses now
seriously? A friend of mine that isn't me needs to know
If done with proper form it's fine and safe. If you're not doing full range of motion or using proper form it it's a waste of time and could be dangerous. I use it and I see so many people doing it wrong or fucking it up no leg breaks yet though.
After seeing people snap their fucking knees doing that shit, I never did them again. Also, they're really fucking useless on their own and should only be done as a supplementary workout, if at all.
Me and my dad did it cause were joined at the hips after a smoldering fusion car accident i suck his and he sucks mine, haha mum and sis are gettin the short end of the stick if ya ca9tch my drift!!!
Perfectly fine part of a balanced leg routine, particularly useful at helping increase squat via isolation
Yet you'll still hear this everywhere. It's always by people who have never spent more than a week or two on leg press and squat like shit
I remember the Marilyn Manson thing- it went world wide. It was one of the first memes I ever remember and was actually spread almost entirely outside of the internet. Good old fashioned word-of-mouth memes
I was doing high-bar. :(
>be me
>Went to a school that didn't care
>Had one that didn't have stoppers in case legs gave out, also it's a basic metal frame like some welder Got bored and made.
>Imsurethisisfine.ohno
>It's not fine
>His leg slipped under it and it slid all the way down and broke his leg
That school still uses it and doesn't care
Dorian Yates didn't leg press exclusively for leg gains, he used hack squats, leg extension and hamstring curls too
>a single example
>works for everyone
yeah not really.
Also, legpress feels like it pressures my knees alot more than squats, I could legpress near the max weight on that thing when I could barely squat 80 kg. I feel like those things might work for hypertrophy but in terms of strength its pretty shit
I haven't done the leg press since I first saw this
While the leg press cannot replace squats, it can be a good addition to your routine. I personnally do them relatively light as the last compound lift on my leg days, to finish off my legs without having to worry too much about form.
You really have to do it very wrong to injury yourself with this tho, people who snapped their legs doin It put way more weight than they could handle and streched their legs completely straight, as loong as su keep the same range of motion you would do with a squat, its completely safe
What do you guys think of doing calf presses on these things? I do them with the safeties on, but I'm always worried one of my foots is going to fall off and I'm gonna hurt my other leg when all the weight is put onto it. Will the safeties prevent that from happening?
