Ive been saying this for years. Traps are like the only muscle that makes you bigger in a third dimension. You can get wider from the frony and you can get bigger from a profile view, but traps add mass vertically, if you get what im saying. Forearms are arguably more essential in looking big with a shirt on however.

I'm surprised you say they are the hardest to develop because i've only been lifting since March and while I had naturally larger than average traps they have grown a lot very quickly and people comment on them the most. I thought that they must be the easiest to develop because basically all resistance exercise involves them

Add in pendlay rows, overhead shrugs, and the occasional farmer walk. Onslaught rows hit your entire back, mid traps included. Overhead shrugs, counter intuitively, hit your lower traps and other important but often under trained muscles involved in shoulder movements. Farmers walks are just good to do anyways, they will help grip strength when diddling etc (you do double overhand right?).

Also, is it just me or traps seem to grow the largest during a pump. Sure, all your muscles look bigger with a pump, but this seems to be the most true of the traps. Like I'll look in my mirror after doing a lot of rows/deadlifts/shrugs/whatever and they will have ballooned in size. Wake up the next day and they look normal again.
Also been lifting for 4 months. Started at Auschwitz mode struggling with 90 pound shrugs and now I do 4x20 with 270 pounds
