Why not pick it up again while learning how to deal with self doubt? Here's a thought to get started: What if you're not too retarded too learn it but so fixated on the thought that you suck, that you end up focusing more on that rather than what you're trying to learn? Then you fuck up and think "of course I fucked up! I'm no good at this, I never will be" and then you give up. Instead of feeding the thought that you suck, focus on the mistake, what you did, what you could do about it, be objective and deliberate. This way you're staying level headed and getting stuff done instead of running from it.

Choose a hobby where you create something. That way you can track your progress and you'll have something to show for your effort. For example I picked up wildlife photography. Looking back my first pics were shit but over time I've gotten a lot better and theres still a lot of room for progression. Maybe learn an instrument or a different language, origami is fun, hell just read a book.
