REDPILL ME ON SWIMMING

My gym has a big pool (and it's included in the package), what are the benefits of swimming compared to say, running or lifting? What parts of the body it improves?

Is it worth it to put dedicated time into it? It's always been my favorite sport, but I prefer putting my time where it matters.

okay, it's that bad?

I'll include you in my package, if you know what I mean ;););););)

Hi, what if you are a terrible swimmer but want cardio thats easy on the joints?
I hate running and I dont have the money for a grapple gym

Well swimmer bod is as asthetic as it gets so it's probably pretty good

Depends on what you want out of it. If you're just concerned with general fitness and aesthetics, swimming is the perfect combination of building muscle and some shit-hot cardio training (both leading to low bodyfat). The only drawback is that your legs will lag behind the rest of your body, so maybe include some squats and diddlies in your week.

Swimming is great cardio, burns a lot of calories and improves lung capacity and stamina, it's a full body workout. Check out olympic swimmers, they get aesthetic gains.
I'd say it's slightly less good if you're a female because you get gain/shoulder necks and can make you look masculine

Swimming is great for doing cardio, since it doesn't put any excess stress on your joints.

That depends. It's nowhere near as bad as lifting or running but if you've got a bad knee, breast-stroke kicks can be pretty taxing and crawl can be really tough for those with bad shoulders. Provided you're really going for it and not half-assing.

probably the most patrican way to do cardio also its very good for your back if you dont have shit form

Obvious benefit is it's good exercise without beating up your joints and you burn a shit ton of calories. That being said, it takes time to develop the technique to actually start swimming at that level. You can also easily fuck up your shoulders if you have a bad front crawl stroke. If you're going to start swimming please please but time into getting a good proper front crawl. Look up the finger tip drag drill, the closed fist drill, and some one arm pulling drills. Make sure you have good rotation and a symmetric stroke. That includes breathing on both sides. Also don't expect to obtain those Olympic swimmer bodies just by swimming. Those guys are at that level of swimming in part because of the way their bodies are naturally shaped for swimming and no amount of exercise will make you look identical to caeleb dressel.

I just want low-body fat (~10%) and abs. Just a good body, I'm not chasing for something like bodybuilding or having very big muscles. see pic related. Yeah I can see issues with the legs, I'll keep that in mind and add leg exercices. Thanks.

I'm a male but I yeah I can see why swimming improves a lot of stuff at the same time. My biggest problem with it is that I'm so hungry after a swim workout, while I'm at least 3x less hungry when I jog for the same amount of calories burned.

I think pro swimmers still hit the gym regularly, I might be wrong though.

I'll be at the sea for 4 days, don't have any company to drink hard or fug in the bushes so i guess I would just swim the fuck out of these days, what's a good routine? Any certain rest periods between sets? How to avoid limb cramps?

Eat bananas for cramps
A routine depends on your level of swimming. How fast can you swim 100yds or 100m?

That shit with sticks and holes in the wall looks like a killer exercise for grip and back

Last time I was swimming more than a year ago I haven't started lifting and cardio so have no idea sadly.

Will the pool you'll be swimming at be short course (25m or 25yds long) or long course (50m or 50yd)?

How long does it take for the lifeguard to stop being afraid for my life?

I want him to never stop being afraid for me OwO

Actually the length shouldn't matter

Here's something you can try if you're getting back into swimming

>Warmup
200yd easy pace
>Main set
Rest 25 seconds for all
3x50
2x 100
1x 150
2x 100:
3x 50
Rest about 2-3 minutes.
>Sprint Set
If you feel cold after the main set you can warm up a bit
4x50 first 25 is building speed into a sprint that you can hold the second 25

>Cool down:
200 really easy pace

>The virgin runner vs the chad swimmer
Can't believe nobody hasn't made this one yet

Swimming + machines is probably the best combination possible

It's a sea. Local not very deep piss warm dirty sea.

I'm interested. What's your take on this? Explain it to me.

go for it man, do some push/pull split and swim on the restday, you get your cardio in and upper body gainz. Also if 12 bf% is your goal, swimming is the way to go brah

I honestly would never use a gym pool, it's probably filled with sweat and old man piss

I hope I can afford a home with a nice pool when I'm older

Okay thanks, I'll try it.

It's more of a big pool with a little gym.
I live in a small town but they have everything and nobody swims during autumn/winter here. So all the thing for me basically.

competitive swimmer here

great way to burn calories and get a nice booty

how do you mix lifting and swimming, without fucking with your routine?

swim on rest days

Swimming is great mostly because I like showing off at the pool.
But beware, most people don't realize how much fucking calories can your body burn just being in cold water. Don't mess up you gains.

Not the comp swimmer user but I swim hard MWF and lift hard T/TH. I try to do something different on the weekend like cycling/kayaking/hiking.
Really got tired of excess gym time the last few years, you can make gains and stay in shape doing most sport with less impact.
Swimming helped fix a shoulder and knee injury just from the slow impact and high mobility nature of all the strokes.
Just get a pair of goggles and jump in. Learn all of the competitive strokes and slowly work up to swimming a mile per session.

Use a body board for working legs only. Use the little leg floats (two Styrofoam cylinders connected by a rope) to keep between your legs and work your arms only. Remember to look down, not out, to keep aquadynamic... The black line at the bottom of the pool is to show you the wall is coming... There's no need to look out.

Swimming in chlorinated pools decrease testosterone production by the testes.

>The boys who swam the most in indoor chlorinated pools had concentrations of inhibin B and total testosterone about 20% lower than those of boys who swam in the pool disinfected with copper–silver ionization, and the former were about 3 times more likely than the latter to have abnormally low concentrations of these hormones.

Yep, I swim fasted on rest days. Usually 36-48 laps.

> redpill me on swimming
don't go swimming while on period

I wanna start swimming for exercise but I'm scared of injuries, I've heard you can really fuck up your shoulders.

only if you don't use proper form
If you use proper form it can actually help recover from injuries

Then practice form for swimming

Usually he eyes me for the first length or two then stops paying attention once it's clear you know how to swim.

I almost drowned doing 200m sprints today and buddy looked concerned. Didn't come over or anything though.

How do I git good at swimming? I've built up to being able to do 2000m straight (2:00 pace ish), and I can do 100m sprints at about 1:30. Do I need to get into the faggy kickboard / one arm / arms only drills or should I just keep pushing sprints and distance?

Source?

For me doing strokes and kicks in isolation did wonders in getting that proper form into muscle memory. Also using fins and paddles helped to build power and stamina. It might be faggy but idgaf, you do you tho

Those faggy drills are gonna make your technique better and with a better technique you'll go faster. You'll never be able to swim a sub 1:00 with a bad stroke I don't care how jacked you are. With a board, streamline or with your arms by your side if you have bad shoulders like me, try 10x50 using one leg and switch legs each 50. no interval just rest 20 seconds after each 50. make sure your kick starts with your hips and your knees have a slight bend but not too much. The depth of the kick also matters. You know you have the right depth if it sounds like boiling water. Lastly kicking with one leg will make you work on your upkick more than normal which will help you with speed.

When would I add swimming (at least 3 times a week) if i run PPLPPLX

It's good if you have bad joints. I swim regularly because I ripped up most of the cartilage in my left ankle and sone in my left knee playing football in high school, so now i'm pretty much crippled if i run more than 2 miles.

I swim 3 times a week, run 3 times a week, lift 2 and do calisthenics 4 times a week but Ive been eating about 4000 calories just to maintain. If i wasn't trying to get ready for the military I wouldn't swim at all id just lift.

HOW do you find so much time to do all of these things?

How long does it take to learn how to swim? I’m 23 and can doggy paddle but can’t even tread water

Any suggestions for improving time for long distance swims? Right now I free style 5000yards, breathe every 3 strokes, and pretty much break for a min or two whenever I'm feeling exhausted.
