Thinking of starting to help my shoulders post recovery
yeah its cool. lifting in my 30s means I need a bit of extra help with flexibility and it’s helped hugely after only a few sessions
I do some, alongside stretching, at the end of each workout. Really helps with prevention of excessive DOMS, and enhances flexibility. It also, generally, feels great.
Yes, but actual yoga with prior meditation and shit.
I always feel like shit when I miss a class, tension builds up over the week.
Only for the smells
Yes because it is good for your core and flexibility is a sign of strength
Why would you ever join a class full of fat people. women and POC? Yoga is a poo's invention and literally contributes nothing good to your well-being, the placebo effect at its best
Why would you ever learn anything from the poo people, are you really that self-degrading?
I'd like to.
How did you all learn yoga? In classes? At home by yourself? If self-taught, what did you use? Any recommendations for websites etc?
kys poo amish
Classes, but be extremely careful and don't fall into the New Age bullshit.
Find a legit place, yoga without either dharma or hindu practices is worthless and you might as well just stretch at home.
It's good for your body, but it's a mental practice first and foremost.
Does is help with posture?
did for this little old granny
Spiritual poo in the loo practices are the antithesis to western jewish consumerism you idiot
>falling for mental practice meme
>when you can just read books and self-develop
kek fucking faggot
Phenomenally.
But I don't want to bring money to the poo "guru" proessionals. I will stick to my gym and swimming sessions, thanks.
This dude was a former USA pro wrestler who brought his body back from the dead.

If you really want to find an antithesis to western values, go for japanese classes, at least japanese culture is superior to indian in all aspects.
>just read books and self-develop
You'll have to put the shit you read in practice eventually. That's mental practice.
If you think you can do it without guidance, good for you, but I'm certain you're wrong and are just conceited.
nice, not that I have a problem with posture right now but I would like to prevent it from happening as I age.
I'm gonna try this app "dawndog".
Uh... ever heard of Zen?
The japs got it from the chinks, who got it from the poos.
There's not that much variation when it comes to the practice.
If you're gonna do yoga, study the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and find the real shit, don't bother with the watered down western bullshit version.
But Japan is a futuristic economically powerful nano-robotic country with hard working people while India is a cesspool shithole infested with diseases and dirtiest places in the whole world. I would most probably choose my own classes based on that cultural distinction.
Japan is also a country of overworked, suicidal people without the drive to create a family and provide for it.
But none of these things have anything to do with Zen or Yoga or what have you.
Choose whatever you want, at the end of the day it's not gonna be all that different.
Just avoid NKT, I guess, there's some pretty serious suspicions about it being funded by the Chinese government to legitimize their claim over Tibet.
Yoga is a great workout that a lot of people sleep on. You have to hold yourself up for long periods of time while flexing in different poses.
It really shows what areas you lack in.
Sounds kinda like what I do, for me its some simple breathing techniques or soft yoga routines followed by asanas and then meditation/relaxation
When I was just starting and plateaued for the first time it helped me. Great for mobility as well. I like stretching kind of yoga though.
This.
I think there's a spectrum with new age hippie morons sipping mysticism kool-aid on the far left and insta whole food lulu "yogis" on the far right.
Best is some place in the middle, that doesn't shake up a traditional practice too much, but doesn't meddle in any kind of spirituality -- that gives you a safe and sensible workout for some commonly underutilized muscles and isn't some jerky, tae bo on a mat production, with an instructor who put more thought into their playlist than the entirely of their "certification"
Somewhere that devotes a non-trivial amount of time to meditation or to pranayama or both
30 mins 5 days a week before work and after my bodyweight stuff. Helps flexibility/balance/agility and keeps my legs from feeling like shit after running.
I learnt in a hot yoga class with none of the spiritual bullshit. Moved to a normal class with a bit more of that stuff, it's a bit off putting IMO.
The ancients already figured this shit out 1000s of years ago. No need to reinvent the wheel.
my gym does a few classes a week that dont cost extra, pretty convenient and sticks with beginner level. i could see myself going to a more fancy place for intermediate classes after a year though
i kind of want to sign up to hot yoga next spring so i have an excuse to show off my cut
If you have any doubts about yogas effectiveness watch this...
If you still have doubts, come back and debate me nigga.
Started Yoga back in January, it's been an invaluable tool for my lifting. More flexible, better strength, more quality sleep, kills stress, I started my cut in June and am down to 210 lb. as of now and Yoga has helped that too. The core work makes my abs pop after a good session also helps me support myself better on deadlifts and squats. Recently hit 405 on squats because my core keeps me more stable and my form better along with better flexibility.
Yeah, I'm a bit of a hippie, black and long-haired with dreads. Doesn't matter, Yoga definitely isn't something you should sleep on. Helps teach better patience and overall healthier thinking, being more present in the moment and wards off any depression, anxiety and all that.
dont post here unless you lift
Read up a little on Hinduism, it's good shit.
>actual yoga with prior meditation and shit
>asanas and then meditation/relaxation
this is the worst kind of yoga.
As long as you get someone who knows what they're doing and isn't just going to stick to Bikram all the time it's well worth it. I don't know if the heat helped the stretching but I was living in Glasgow at the time and it was a nice change from pissing it down.
Got back into lifting recently, doms has been kicking my ass, aching walking up stairs, feel stiff as fuck.
Did yoga today and all of that has disappeared. Like magic.
It's the only kind.
Anything else isn't yoga, it's a stretching class.
I do hot yoga. It feels real good to stretch on the regular. And you move your body in ways you normally wouldn't. Plus so many good looking girls in the classes.
I'm good, it gets me the stretches and relaxation I want
thinking of going to this class at 6:30 est
I use some yoga stretches in between sets of heavy barbell work. Feels nice
Just stretch like a gymnast
How do I build yoga routine at home?
I started with little stuff to help with mobility. Watching the vampire Tony on power90 DVD. Kept going, learned more from YouTube. Mixing yoga and calistetics really helped my garbage balance. Would recommend on that alone. Pro tip: Upward facing dog after an intense core workout feels so fucking good.
