Cardio for Martial Artist

I've just gotten back into martial arts (specifically MMA if you care) after a Boomer/Normie related absence of 4+ years, I find I'm gassing out right now because my cardio sucks!

I'm not interested in getting ripped abs, or any shit like that, I just want to be able to scrap for 3 minutes and have my technique be the thing holding me back, not my fitness.

What is the most cost-effective way of getting fitter, both in terms of time and actual dollars. I've doing jogging right now, because its easy, but should I switch to sprinting, swimming maybe?

>my cardio sucks
>should I switch to sprinting
Brainlet.

Yep, that's why I'm here
Never really got into the gym, or exercise for excercise's sake, always been to do something else

Run as fast as you can for 3 minutes, increase your distance everytime, I know nothing about conditioning so there's that.

Get a bike dude. I commute 1.2hours on a bicycle run 40min every other day and sprint on the threadmill for 10min after weight training. Can hold out for 8 rounds no problem.

L2relax.

Running and cradio will help with weight classes but it won't help with fight cardio.

What is even taught at an "MMA class"? Just sparring?
I always thought you learn a couple different martial arts separate from each other then go do MMA with those

>exercise for excercise's sake
youre going to have to elaborate on this expression

You nitpick from a few martial arts, learning only certain techniques. Since most people who do MMA already have prior experience in some style, they just buyld on top of it to fill the gaps. Say you used to do kickboxing as a kid/teen, you'd need certain amount of grappling and wrestling techniqus if you want to succeed in MMA, so you just find someone to teach you BJJ since it combines both things you need.

Should have shown Ethiopian on right side

Isn't sprinting anaerobic ? Long distance running is more of a cardio than sprinting then , right ?

Run 5k and do sprints. Don't go beyond the distance, just be faster everytime.

I don't know man. 5k and sprints help a lot.

Exactly as you say.

They work differently. As seen in op's pic. Running is more endurance and sprinting is explosivity

This. And if your goal is 3 minutes of intense sparring, look for a heavy bag on craigslist and do some 3 minute rounds at home

Why buy a heavy bag when you pay for membership?

HIIT is what you need my dude.
You can do classic Tabata, 45-15, what ever.
my favotire is to sprint 400 meters, than walk 400 meters, sprint 300 than walk 300... all the way to 100 meters.
better cardio done in less time.

That's not cardio at all, you are in aerobic state all the time.

>BJJ
interesting way of typing greco-roman

>t. an idiot

literal all research says you're wrong and that's why top athletes do a shit ton of intervalls

They do easy runs too, idiot.

Not as much, because HIT is proven to be more effective.

Follow any link from wikipedia HIIT and you will see, it got marked as spam on this shit board.

Holy shit, you are a moron.

Yeah, I bet all the studies discussing this EXACT thing are also morons. You should unironically jump of a cliff

Yeah top athletes. Couch potatoes are barely able to actually reach the intensity that are beneficials for HIIT.
Interval training has its place, but it should be part of a broader cardio training. Including longer period of moderate heart bpm.
Especially for fighting. You need that lung capacity and anaerobic endurance.

>Get a bike

Worst. Advice. Ever.

Adults do not use bikes.

even the military uses bikes. bikes are the best means of transportation for medium distances

dude on the left is on steroids and you know it

Wrestling is great for getting a person to the ground, not so much at finishing them once you are there though.
Also a lot of wrestlers give up their back out of habit because they dont want to get pinned.

Body weight circuit training will do you wonders.
I found that it improved my cardio by an impressive amount, though its not gonna make you very strong or five you thst great a body unless you do it religiously.

Its pretty much crossfit but with a set number of movements that you do without a time limit while making sure that your form never breaks down.

Jump rope for about 30 minutes everyday

Imagine being this concerned about what other people think

I dont know user here on europe a ton of adults use bikes, I would argue most successfull people I know bike to work rather than driving by car. it is usually almost as fast, way less stressfull, you dont need to worry about a parking space and you get to move your body a bit every day.

so I cant say I agree with you there...

>the juicy sprinter guy had to be black
>the weak marathon guy had to be a

this is why Jow Forums gets mad

No we dont
We do hiit with easy runs mixed in

Stop desperately shilling greco-roman.
Does your family own a gym or what?
Goddamn.

Stop desperately shilling BJJ.

Goddamn.

yes, they use big ass ford trucks, right?

Is this what American country hicks really think?

MMA/Wrestler here.

I found going back to training I was gassing real fast and it was shit because no one would work a match with someone who can't go 5 minutes.

I worked back up by doing whats called the sweat deck. You basically get 52 cards and assign an exercise to each suit

Heart
Spade (lol)
Club
Diamond

you then do a number of exercise correspondent to number on the card.

Sit ups
Burpies
Pushups
Squat

EG. 7 of diamonds? 7 Squats

You try to do as many cards as you can with a 5 second rest between each one. Eventually you'll be able to do the entire deck without stopping, your cardio will be through the fucking roof. I can work a 25 minute match now no fucking problem.

There's apps for it on the android/iphone store, search sweatdeck.

run more

HIIT is negligible for aerobic ability, which is what stops you from getting winded after a round. The more you run, the better fighter you will be as you will be able to maintain form and technique after longer bouts. Start at 10 miles a week and work up from there

You're not asking how to get faster or stronger, you just want endurance. So just run more miles, pace is not important as long as its not walking

cope

running like 300m every other day is not gonna give you football legs

Don't do this OP. These two retards have no idea what they're talking about. Most of Jow Forums doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to endurance and sprinting and being fast in general.

For basic endurance run a 3-5 times a week, build a base. Maybe get up to 20-25 mpw total. Mainly run at a conversational pace where you won't gas yourself. Perhaps throw in a tempo run every other week or so. Long run on the weekend should be 6-7 miles once you work up to 20-25 miles a week. The other runs should be between 3 and 5 miles. Add mileage at about 10% per week.

>blow job job
