i go to a franchised golds gym that was pretty much built for the residential area I live in. A lot of middle aged people just keeping up, and a few young people giving it a serious go, as well as some of the old head body builders full of sagely advice.

Find a local family run gym. Lots of friendly boomers and mom's. Only saw one roided out asshole.

I go to YMCA now, it varies wildly. I go about an hour and a half before closing, which is comfy because it’s nearly empty and the few people that are there are quiet and no bullshit. If you go any other time there will be asians walking around inspecting machines, nog kids coming from the bball court fucking with the machines, and you will have to wait to use any dumbbells.

LA fitness sucks imo. Might just be the one near where I lived (San diego) but the whole vibe is just people trying to get laid. Gym thots and wannabe chads everywhere. I was going to Platinum Fitness in Tucson, which used to be a Gold's Gym, but the place was packed full of unemployed morons 24/7 who went there to make fun of people and gossip. Think sunglasses, black wifebeaters, and backwards baseball caps indoors at 2 am and that's pretty much what the crowd was.
