Going to buy a power rack, found a solid one for $260. Only problem is the max weight is 250kg. Would this be alright/fit/? My max squat is 150kg and i don't think I'll ever squat over 170kg give or take.

Are there any downsides to it being 250kg rated?

Buy nice or buy twice.
If you buy something like this you're gonna be kicking yourself for buying a piece of shit in a few years.

250kg is a fucking lot OP.

250kg is an insane amount, unless you actually want to get into powerlifting, you will never squat more than that.

power cage is pretty fucking basic, hard to mess up

The issue is that it'll be very unstable at higher weights. 200 kg is an achievable squat in a few years. If you fail with 200 kg, the force on the safety pins will be a lot more than 250 kg.

I don't have that cage, but I have one like it. The only criticism I have is the top of the rack not being open. Unless you're really short, you're going to smack the top of the cage when you OHP. And sure you can always readjust the bar holders to the front of the cage, but then that defeats the purpose of even having a cage. And for me this is a problem because I have very limited space for my setup, don't have a horse stall map in front of the cage, only under it, and so on. Not a total deal breaker, but something to keep in mind

user... You can put the j-cups that hold the bar on the outside of the rack....

Top of the rack being open would completely destroy the structural integrity. Think about it for a minute.

Or he can buy longer bars
Or even forge them himself

This is the one i have in mind; m.ebay.com.au/itm/Power-Rack-Squat-Cage-Crossfit-Stands-Pull-Up-Home-Gym-Strength-Rack-Grey-Color/253756902641?hash=item3b15170cf1:g:8tIAAOSwcBhWXkuY

And one rated for 300kg+ but is it really worth it?

170kg is my ultimate goal.

How tall are you? I'm 6ft and now that's another reason i might spend 400 and buy the ithet cage.

lol that's completely untrue. Look at most typical non-cage squat racks in any commercial gym. They're open on top with no issues.
I wish I had bought something like this, honestly

I'm only 5'8" and I have issues with it. Granted I *CAN* OHP in the cage I own, but I need to take an ultra-wide stance and put my feet all the way to the sides in order to reduce my effective height, and even then I can't fully "shrug up" with my shoulder girdle at the lockout. Granted I have freakishly long arms for my height (6'2" wingspan), but if you're 6' then forget it.

I've actually taken to carrying my bar and plates outside and OHPing out there. Assuming a nice day of course.

Whoops, thought you meant no top beam or anything whatsoever.

I've owned one like that before and it's okay I guess. Want to buy it for $200?

>Only 5"8
I'm 5"3 and can't OHP in my power rack lol

pls be in london

Should i not have bought this

companies have to cover their ass, if they say the max load is 250kg, the safety bars/pins will be fine for up to 250kg.

They can't have someone killing themselves on a 200kg bench

If you plan on ever squatting more than 315, it may not have been a very good idea.

This, especially if you look at the weight ratings for benches. If you go by what the benches say they're rated for and you remember to factor in your own bodyweight, they allegedly can't be used for more than like lmao3plate, which is just false.

Think about squatting. Let's say you have to bail on a 200 kg squat, the force on the safety pins will likely be greater than 250 kg depending on how far you drop it.
