Reminder that if you have a 20" vertical jump or less, you most likely lack the most basic athleticism to compete in a sport as unathletic as powerlifting.

Isley jumps 28"+ at 103kg.

What the fuck happened?
He went from being a Collegiate endurance athlete to being a World's qualifying strength athlete.
Are you seriously that pathetic?
peak aesthetic isley only benched 110kg tng
it's absolutely incredible how irrelevant powerlifting #s are to how you look
I need to cut
This shit is getting unhealthy
Trip on isley
160 bench and a 220 squat at 105kg isnt worlds material lmao
>Isley jumps 28"+ at 103kg.
*exaggerated for maximum butthurt, but 25+ with a shit effort is very good.
>it's absolutely incredible how irrelevant powerlifting #s are to how you look
It should be no surprise, natural bodybuilder visions are full of people with abysmal 1RMs on big 3 yet look very good (of course genetics paly big part too)
You left out a 705 lb deadlift?
How insecure.
if only there was a third lift that contributed the most to a powerlifting total
>natural bodybuilder
Not even a thing.
We Finns do some pretty dumb shit mate.
i'm back from the gym, didn't die or shit myself so that's good
i only managed to lift absolute babyweight compared to my usual numbers (which are pretty much babyweight too) besides an ok-ish 90 kg press single, and got extraordinarily tired in the process
guess that's what happens when you eat 4k calories over 5 days
i also feel a little bit of pressure around my left kidney every now and then, that can't be good, right?
but i'm not too concerned because it's not constant, so it's probably my intestines putting pressure on the area when there's shit passing through, and not the kidney itself
t. shits guy
Lmao at these losers
Being a one lift wonder doesnt make you worlds material
It is a thing but they look like small af twinks on stage. It shows how detrimental it is to go below 10%bf as a natty. They lose like half of their muscle mass.
if isley trained his arms and cut even more he'd look like the bb dude in your pic. look at isley #2, same/better development everywhere but arms, and he's not even shredded, posing or pumped specifically for the photo.
it's absolutely a thing, and it's the most retarded shit ever, actually natural bbers go from great physiques at like 15-16% to looking like shriveled up garbage at 8%
>utti
>natural
Pissing into the wind in my opinion. Continual cutting and losing muscle mass when you can easily take steroids and reduce the muscle catabolism.
It's an absolutely asinine abomination of a pageant to have bodybuilders who can't use steroids.
>It shows how detrimental it is to go below 10%bf as a natty
This.
This guy in his podcasts says that dieting down to competition has had detrimental effects on his training and muscle mass. He has done it like 8times.
Just put your fucking trip on Isley

Yeah or just look at frank yang. He looks decent on pics but when you see him next to other guys even people who dont lift at all he looks smaller than them. And thats the guy with like 40inch vertical jump so nigga has elite genetics.
Isley keeps his trip on.
Hes not like sean, lmao
I remember when Frank Yang posted here with a trip.
Didn't he hire kelly baggett to train him and his vertical?
Why would you ruin that Greek god physique...
where is the video of islet vertical
Bottom fo the previous thread.
thanks fren, linkback for anyone that wants it.

> MY VERTICAL IS WORSE THAN SEDENTATRY COLLEGE WOMEN STUDENTS
J D I M S A
Fuck my gym. Go over to do lateral raises, only set of 12.5kg is gone so some twink can do db bench. Go over to cables, some chink is using them for his stupid chest flyes. Every single time.
ive never trained jumps and i can jump a 32'' box
ask to work in we live in a society
That's pretty shit. With a box you can bend your knees, so 32" is way more than your real vertical.
Then do raises with 14kg you pussy. Its fucking baby weight anyway.
I don't mind asking to work in when it's bench (we only have one fixed bench), it's a lot easier.
This chink does like 50 reps and rests like 30 seconds between sets. And I want the cable for facepulls so I would have to adjust the weight every time and change the attachment.
>be shits guy
>test vertical right now with that same ghetto setup and even worse technique
>24"
am i Super Eliteā¢?
have him wait then
or take twinks dbs if he has longer breaks between sets
> not doing lateral throws
LMAO STAY DELTLESS
12.5kg --> 15kg (no 14s) is a big jump. No point in doing 10 shoddy reps. Lateral raises should be controlled.
Lateral throws are fine for side delts dude.
ya i know its shit but im saying how the fuck can people not jump 20''?
idk udude i can do 12cm-15cm jump and thats all i got..
>tfw lost vertical after losing weight and not working out
WTF
I can't jump 20" because the ceiling is low here
Can I get a great looking body if I stick with a powerlifting routine?
see
As long as you do accessories for hypertrophy.
Sounds like some twinkshit broscience.
Whats your deifiniton of great body?
like men's physique or in animes
Kyriakos Grizzly.
Then no, former is on roids latter is unachievable even on roids.
Before you reached advanced, as a powerlifter your goal is to gain as much muscle as possible, so as long as you pick a program with actual volume and throw in some bodybuilding accessory e.g. curls, lateral raises, calves etc. and eat at a surplus then yeah, it's very good for it.
Can't I do Stronglifts 5x5?
SS and GOMAD and in 3 months you'll look like pic related guaranteed.
No you have to do ss+bodybuilding accessories grizzly is doing such as bloatcurls etc
Does the number of sets have any rellevance at all? Or is it all about x volume at y intensity?
I know this has been the subject of some memeing, so please make your memes as obvious as possible if you're not going to give a serious answer
>strength athlete
PEAK POOFORMANCE
I don't know
I think it's about x volume at y intensity
Conjugate is the answer to everything.
That blue WHFB box next to the foxes ear was based as fuck. I hope he bought a couple.
For strength, yes. For hypertrophy, not necessarily.

Maybe some rap, I dunno.
Benni looks moderately uncomfortable.
As for your question, I seem to recall seeing some study saying that the number of sets near failure was the main driver for gains. Can't remember exactly what their definition of "near failure" was, though.
I think a lot of people just count training volume and assume you're trying hard as a prerequisite.
That image gave me a nice chuckle. Louie posting will always be funny to me.
If you don't like powerlifting, find a new hobby.
Number of weekly sets at RPE 8+ is LITERALLY the only thing that matters.
> Friend dropped Starting Strength week into it because 3x10 grows more muscle than 3x5 and the program had lack of muscle group trainings
ok
You can do RPE 8+ with 90% of your max, or with 50% of your max. Sounds dumb. Ofcourse this is overcomplicating training, but I'm arguing for the sake of arguing here.
Skipped gym to go pub (Again)
Do you think this is the beginning of the end?
Then it's just a matter of specificity. For strength work like what we're doing, obviously you need a balance between weight (as pushing heavy weight feels different) and ability to do enough reps for technical development.
Surely you don't mean singles are just as stressful as fives, not even taking into account RPE differences.
Go the gym after going to the pub. While at the pub you can only consume whiskey shots to prep you up.
If they're at the same RPE they are, yes. Though I'm sure there are individual physiological differences related to endurance vs explosivity etc.

natty? That sounds like a lot of sets
Yea lol, I'm just doing 531 BBB. The weights are relatively light.
I jumped a 52" box, when I had a box, which was when I was a rower.
this is unironically true, that was me after 3 months of ss and 4000kcal. Gained over 10kgs in those 3 months.
I wish I had a box
my cat has a box but it is too small for me
Assholes
I'm being 100% serious, but tbf I started off as an anorexic twink.
I put 45lbs on with SS in like four months, I'm amazed I didn't go full bloatlord, being anorexic-tier skinny as a starting point is a hell of a drug.
6' 130 - 175, IIRC.
i missed you dude
Im currently working on recording research on powerlifters and their jump ability based on research saying there is a diminishing return on absolute strength (saying that strength to a certain extent does not impact performance)
so far, Ive recorded vertical jumps on 150 powerlifters in the SoCal Area and with people who squat more than 2.5x to 3x their bw have madde 37" to 40" verticals.
These are d1 Basketball vertical jumps. They dont do ANY jump training, no plyometrics, nothing. This data Im getting is going to make a massive shit on "functional training"
Ps. its for my masters thesis
That doesn't mean much does it? People have always said vertical is a measure of talent and has a big genetic factor. NBA players are NBA players because they are tall and jump high, not the other way around.
>no units
worthless
But the image shows that soccer players that did weight training in addition to their regular training had a massive improvement on just about all measures.
Don't basketball players jump a good bit during games for lay ups and such?
That was also known. Noob gains work across the board.
strongerbyscience.com
It's hardly ever a true vertical though. I don't remember who was talking about it, but even when rebounding there is some leg movement, and that's leg strength which can be trained.
It might not be a true vertical, but it's much more jumping than a vast majority of lifters, or most people overall, do. They are still practicing jumping, even if it isn't in a programmed manner.
Ah yeah I thought you were talking about the importance of vertical jumping, I didn't follow your conversation with that guy so I misunderstood.
