Just take up swimming or cycling. You can still achieve the runners high without killing your joints.

my knees are killing me
cycling is just too soft and I don't know how to swin

>We did not find an increased prevalence of osteoarthritis among the runners. Our observations suggest, within the limits of our study, that long-duration, high-mileage running need not be associated with premature degenerative joint disease in the lower extremities.

ajs.sagepub.com/content/18/4/379.short
>a lifetime of long distance running at mileage levels comparable to those of recreational runners today is not associated with premature osteoarthrosis in the joints of the lower extremities

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16790540
>Long-distance running might even have a protective effect against joint degeneration

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18550323
>Long-distance running among healthy older individuals was not associated with accelerated radiographic OA. These data raise the possibility that severe OA may not be more common among runners.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9489830
>The presence of radiographic hip OA and the progression of radiographic knee OA was similar for older runners and nonrunners.

Those are studies studying one specific problem with running, not a comprehensive analysis of problems with long term running. Anyone and everyone who is around athletes knows the long term runners end up fucked in older age.

>people get old
oh dear better just sit on the couch for 60 years so you can have great knees at 80

Yeah, my cousin is a competitive runner and he literally fractured his hip from doing sprints. Fuck running.

Respeita o mito, melhoras Jair!

ABS hard enough to withstand a KNIFE! (COMMON MISTAKE!!)

lol same with me although I still do it

Running is addictive. Its funny how everone brings up blown knees, and its true. BUT idiots who dont know jack about proper running will suffer. Trained runners will not develop problems. Much like any other sport, except the wall to get into running is low while the injury is high.

Yikes. You don't need to be THAT cringy

I just ran 100KM at runwoodstock in hell michigan friday night into saturday morning and then today i set a new 1RM for front squat (only 190 lbs, slowly building it up after fucking up my back doing back squats).

The leader of my running groups runs multiple 100 mile runs per year without any issues.

Running is not bad for you. Running wrong is bad for you.

I don't wanna be that guy but cycling isn't soft. It's one of the hardest toughest sports there is. It looks soft and easy but the reality is far far from soft and easy.

I do cycling, it is much softer than just running non stop

Cycle uphill

When you cycle, you only burn about 75% of the calories you burn when running, and that's EASY running, like just jogging. That's why you always see fat cyclists all geared up with expensive shit.
You see a fat guy running? He's just getting started or trying to get in shape. You see a fat guy cycling? Oh yeah... They have cyclist legs, but... they're still fat.

MITO

You are such an idiot. Cycling burns less calories for distance travelled, not time spent cycling. Furthermore, are you looking to lose weight, or increase fitness? It doesn't matter what you do for the latter as long as it elevates the heart rate. Lastly, fat people can't run without killing themselves. That's why you don't see them running more than once.

Nope... Time travelled, you ignoramus. Uphill cycling still burns less calories than easy 6mph running.

Also... Cycling is softer than running because of what you just stated: fat cyclists can cycle because it won't kill them because it won't elevate the heart rate enough to hurt them because why don't you shit the fuck up?

did you ever try to cycle hard ?
I can easily maintain my max running Hr by cycling and it hurt way way more than the sprint I need to do to reach it .

>Time travelled

You really are an idiot if you think bikes or running allows you to time travel.

Fat people don't run because they get too much pain from shin splints, their feet and their knees. Not because of their heart rate. Fat people can get that up just like anyone else.

I used to bike 100km 3 times a week last summer and it honestly was not great cardio for time spent. Switched to running this summer and I feel like a 30 minute jog is equivalent to more than an hour of biking. The cycling high is definitely more enjoyable for me but I don't have time to bike for hours / day now

Yeah. I swim, cycle, and run. I do some pushups here and there. I mostly run long distances. When I'm nice and fresh, swimming is the hardest, then running at medium pace, then cycling uphill... When i started cycling, it was hard, then it was easy. Everything is pretty easy when you make yourself swim 2 miles every other day. When you cycle, you can maintain HR easily because you're mostly sitting there. When you run, your entire body is engaged. It's a mind game after an hour or so.

offcourse if you leisurely cruise long distance it can be even worse than walking in term of energy expenditure per hours ...
You need to understand that the entire energy ependiture of cycling is focused on way less muscle that running , unless you really push yourself in a disconfort zone it won't work very well , but since it's not weight bearing it allow you to push way harder and for longer if your mental follow ( it'll burn a lot)

You're saying that because you are allowing yourself to rest on the bike. It's not supposed to be low power on decents, mid power on flats and high power on climbs. The fastest and more effective way to cycle is to have the same power output for the whole trip. That's what the gears are there for.

Well... When i bike, i try to keep a pedaling pace to match what i do when i run (180 per minute), and try to keep a steady speed. Granted, if I'm going uphill more than 30 minutes, it does get a little rough, but running is a totally different game, dude. Running for 2 hours at medium pace is harder than cycling for 2 hours at medium pace. The momentum that you carry on a bike helps a lot, so you don't have to push as hard to keep going. When you run, momentum is lost in a second.

You chould be pushing harder on the bike. This is much easier to do on an exercise bike.

>survivorship bias

those who had no problems remained runners into old age, those who fucked up their joints are now part of the "general population" in that study

you got played son

brahs i just want to let you know i made up everything in this comment for the lulz, have a good day and get on the track
