The apple cider vinegar and lemon are optional.
You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

No. It only occurs at extremely low body fat (8-10%).

Artificial sweeteners and diet soda are bad for you and may fuck up your fast. Zero calorie black coffee and tea ware generally considered to be fine.

Actually fasting for 24h increases autophagy by 300% (look up autophagy and be amazed at how the body works). It's also said it boosts your immune system but I've never seen a study for that I think. I haven't gotten sick since I started fasting 2 days every week or so in April, and I've gone camping in the mountains, got out in the rain and wind after working out and being sweaty and changed environments so many times.
Not saying it cures the flu but it definitely helps the body to fight disease.

The wisdom here is to go on a fasting regimen until you reach goal weight (usually 8-10% body fat).
If you've got a lot to burn it will probably take several fasts.
Use common sense to determine when to stop. If you feel really bad, you should probably stop. If you feel really really hungry, you should stop.
If you've been fasting for a longer time then break the fast with a small low carb meal.

ok, you've never fasted, i'll explain it to you. If you eat something while on a fast (IF or extended) it will fuck you up something wicked, getting all hungry when you wouldn't, making you truly suffer. But I suspect this only happens with things that produce an insulin response, i.e. things that don't consist of almost entirely fat, because I can drink coffee with cream just as normal. Obviously if I'm trying to lose weight all the fat in the cream is just not going to get taken from the bodyfat.

The term you're looking for is a fat fast. It's true that dietary fat has practically no effect on insulin level, so what you've figured out makes sense.

Can you quantify and/or qualify that? Some data to back that up?

The first time this summer I extended fasted for a week, I lost about 5 pounds in excess of what I should have lost (I was already on full keto/IF for a month, so it's not just glycogen storages) but I have not since been able to repeat it, subsequent fasts had the expected 1pound/day weight loss. I assumed those initial 5 pounds were related to autophagy and the subsequent fasts simply didn't have as much cellular trash to clean up anymore.

All my fasting involves creamed coffee because I need me some coffee.

What's the minimum fasting window for successful intermittent fasting? I last ate 14 hours ago but I only consumed 1000 kcal yesterday, and right now I'm hungry as all fuck. I can maybe stretch it to 16 hours.

If you went high carb -> fasting -> low carb -> fasting ->...
then those 5 pounds are water weight which you lost when you first switched to ketones doing that extended fast. If you start eating carbs you will gain that water back.
There's something else too. Full fat adaptation can take months, meaning your TDEE is "artificially" heightened by your body's inefficiency in breaking down fat into ketones.
I can't give you a citation for the autophagy claim right now, but you can check out the JRE episode with Rhonda Patrick where she touches on it.

Day 5 guys, set my goal of a 5 day fast and now only 10 hours to go, probably keep it going another 12 but then I'll eat and get back into it for the weekend. Been feeling okay mostly, been out exercising. Felt a bit rough this morning and ketone sticks were showing dark as fuck when every other day been lighter.

The fuck? Where?! As far as I know autophagy kicks in after about 3 days and is in full force by day 4-5

72 hours is long enough to have your first meal be a light one lke yogurt or something. After couple of hours you can eat normal food like you mentioned. Second, thats a decent refeed, but where is the potassium,magnesium,sodium?

Welp, I failed to reach my 120 fasting goal that I set 2 weeks ago.

I made it to day 12, and simply could not take the taste on my tongue anymore. /fast/ says it's acetone build-up during an extended fast.
I can deal and work around the insomnia, the weakened lifts, the (lower) BP, and slight headaches. But goddamn, tasting nothing but salt/acetone all day every day, no matter how much I brush, floss, scrape, or mouthwash was too much for me.

At least I beat my older weeklong record and managed to get into the double digits.
I will continue to fast for all the benefits, but may simple end up incorporating 72+ hour fasts routinely into my week.

I know that fucking taste. But 12 days a is an accomplishment. It's really quite a lot.

Well I tried fasting and made it 5 days but I started feeling sick and weak even after taking the salt like I was told. I guess fasting just isn't for me. I honestly still haven't seen solid proof that this works and that people are capable of fasting for long periods of time. I'll go back to eating 1000-1500 calories a day and excercising 5 days a week. I think it is healthier anyways.

I didn't give a shit about salt on a week long fast. Didn't feel any ill effects. I'm guessing the fast has to be a lot longer than that before you need to supplement salts. Maybe yall just eating too much salt?

I get super nauseous and dizzy after about only 36 hours. I’ve tried to fast for at least three days multiple times but I can’t. It’s not hunger, just nausea. I have vommited many times from not eating. I drink a little pink salt mixed with my water but that didn’t fix anything

Try to do super healthy keto (red meat, fish, eggs, olive oil, avocado, veggies) for 4-5 days and try again.

Regarding the dizziness, do you have a way of checking your blood pressure? When do you feel dizzy - is it especially when going from a laying/sitting position to standing up? Could be low blood pressure. In which case you could just have more salt water, assuming no health conditions.

I know for sure she talks about it there. You can find more detailed information in her own videos, but I can't point you to an exact one.

5 day fast done. Day 3 was the worst part of it. I literally felt like I was going to lose it, so I tossed a bullion cube in some hot water and sipped on it. Days 4 and 5 were easy, and if I didn't have plans I would have probably extended to 7 days.

I had the same issue when I would drink diet soda, you're probably getting too much sodium.

BHB is a ketone body, so this also means that keto diet in general is anti-aging, assuming the premise is true.

If I'm sweating a noticable amount I've found it to be helpful on day 2. If I'm just inside all day I have no real need till day 3.

That's how I feel when waking up. I don't know if its low electrolytes or just dehydration or what, but after having some snake juice I start feeling better. Certainly wouldnt hurt. And the main electolyte i usually think about with muscle weakness is potassium

Do you have hypertension? If not I wouldnt worry about taking too much sodium. Your body just filters and pisses out the excess anyway.

And theoretically you can take too much potassium, go hyperkalemic, and start having arrhythmias, but the chances of this happening in a normal person just eating potassium is very low.

But for completeness sake, 10meq K+ increases serum K+ about 0.1. Normal serum concentration is 3.5-5.0, with it.not being an issue until 6.0+. And IIRC 40meqs is roughly how much you need per day to stay the same, which would be 3000mg K+ (about 6g KCl).
