I live in the southern u.s. so I'll be better off than most. My scenario mostly applies to the New York New Jersey crowd but raises a good point, after all jogging is free and accessible.
Even if only some people go it would be a good thing. It also would signal that strength training is a good thing that we care about as a society. If you start seeing gyms on every corner, I really do believe people will go more. Especially if it doesn't cost them 1200+ a year to do so per member.

We have public, free (unless you want to compete, where you pay a small fee) gyms / martial arts / swimming pools / dance lessons etc.
These are generally of lower quality than private ones but if you're a kid with no money they're good enough.

No, we don't in the American South. The closest thing we have are public parks that sometimes have basketball courts, tennis courts, and baseball fields for some crazy reason (if and when they even have those in more affluent areas) but not actual exercise equipment you would see in a gym for the specific purpose of strength training or cardio.
You can meet cardio and some strength training reqs by running and body weight resistance exercise at the public park, but body weight exercise is far inferior to weight lifting and machines. Similarly, people really don't even consider or understand basic facts about fitness training, so just seeing opportunities to go and ask the guy at the desk (which btw now has a job because of this new facility) to help them develop a program or some basics to get them started.

You meme because your postal services are good, but here in eastern europeland, this year I've had more delays and wasted more money with postal services fucking up than i've spent on private courriers. (Plus some letters that were just never delivered...)
That's not to say private courriers don't blunder too, had a couple of shipments get fucked up at work too.
At the end of the day, with courrier services, if something goes wrong i can call them and usually they're helpful in resolving the issue. With the public postal service, all I get is "idk, we don't have tracking for that, can't do anything"
Oh, and all the utility providers (gas, electricity, etc) use private mailing companies if you opt to receive bills on paper.
All that being said, in my experience the public postal offices here have been constantly improving throughout the years... It's just that improvements are slow and it just went from really fuckin shit to just plain shit.

Back when I was in school, we would do a lot of bullshit running around and sports and shit and that was about it. I was not very interested in it. If they had made weight lifting mandatory, I would have been all over that shit and even been interested in the other stuff. Because with weightlifting you get concrete measurable results and they are objectively determined. It's something that I could logically approach and understand.
It is important for body mechanics, efficient and effective application of force, and it is literally the BEST time in your life to develop strength. Kids have HGH naturally and it's the natural time they develop all of their physical attributes.
If weightlifting was a mandatory part of middle and high school fitness programs, we would immediately raise a generation of badass greek gods in the first few years of that change.

Fortunately we had electives and I picked weightlifting for one of my electives and that's how I got into it. Unfortunately I didn't really keep up with it because I couldn't have room to take it again but it helped me when I'm getting back into it now (started again a few months ago).
