Can we get an essential reading thread...

Can we get an essential reading thread? I'm new to this whole scene and I understand maybe 10% of the stuff I read around here.

The sticky covers the super basics but what do I read to find out stuff like:

-Nutrition. What the various components of food/drink/supplements actually do to the body and how much of each I should have. There's plenty of stuff on what foods contain but where do I go to find out what those terms actually mean?

-The muscular system. What all the muscles are and what the best behaviours are in general to promote muscle growth. It's pretty easy to find what exercises to do for each particular muscle but what material is a good start for understanding muscular science broadly?

-The lingo in general. Loads of terms around here just fly over my head.

Thanks anons

if you want a meme, read «meditations» by marcus aurelius.
but i would recommend «the iliad» by homer. it's so epic dude

Odyssee is better

I would recommend atlas shrugged. It really helped me realise what a load of shit libertarianism is and how fucking imbecilic Ayn Rand was.

Why not recommend a good Hemingway book like Farewell to Arms or The Sun Also Rises?

Pic very much related, you will never look at truth and justice the same, no meme.

This isn't even literature you coelho-level retarded cunt.

A Farewell to Arms by Mark Rippetoe

>tfw you realize that trash tier novels and cringey hyper-aggressive wannabes set the standards for a dom so low that knowing how to tie a double column and not being autistic makes you top 10%

My top reading list:
Atlas shrugged by ayn rand
The fountainhead by ayn rand
Plato’s Republic
Black Swan by Nassim taleb
Thinking fast thinking slow by Daniel kahneman

>nutrition
The way you will diet depends on your goals. IMO it's overrated, especially supplements. Eat less carbs/fat, and food overall to lose weight. Eat more to gain. Count calories etc.

>Muscular system
If you really want to know, it's pretty easy to look up a diagram of all the superficial muscles, and then look them all up individually on Wikipedia. Hate saying it but that pretty much works and it's super easy. look up terms you don't understand.

>general lingo
lol
just read more shit dude, you'll get it. sometimes looking it up will work. Or just ask, this is Jow Forums, no one will know who you are and you can literally post in another thread and pretend to be an expert.

hyperion was recc'd to me here
i enqoyed it

> He thinks reading = intelligence

>pseudo intellectual thinks everything his says is right and people actually give a shit

what are some good non-fiction books?

His

Saying the basis of libertarianism is rand is like saying the basis of stoicism is nofappers on fit.

Read the second one

The subtle art of not giving a fuck and any book on game theory and how to apply it in every day life decision making

if you want a good book, you don’t recommend Hemmingway. The guy was an alcoholic who clung to his pseudo machismo because he had nothing else in life.

If you wanna read an actual tough but depressing son of a bitch, go with Jack London or Joseph Conrad. I’d recommend Nostromo or Rassmusin.

about to start infinite jest :^)

underrated comment

I haven't read the Iliad, but I've just finished the Odyssey and I can confirm it is great. Actually pretty riveting action and a great insight into the early days of the ancient Greek civilisation. Plus Odysseus is a role model for me.

Based and bluepilled

please stop

you gonna add The Alchemist to that list too you frickin meme-master

Explain to me how reading increases intelligence

Tldr

>tfw i read it in Old Greek

>none of these armchair philosophers read the OP

Old Man is perfectly entry level for someone who doesn't read much, or at all. It's short and sweet

Is indigo an Americna thing or is it just Barnes and Noble or whatever there? Canads bros go to Indigo and find their 3 for $10 section. Endless classic lit and foundation philosphy for cheap as fuck. Just finished Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, moving on to The Republic and then probably some early Atheist lit or some historical lit next. All good reading, none too long, and its all the shit that a first year university course on the material would likely have you read.

I never said it did you fucking faggot

Are you talking about John Coelho?

>Why not recommend a good Hemingway book like
ICF

didn't say, nor imply that rand is the basis of libertarianism. learn to read m8

The Count of Monte Cristo

I liked this book but it's so Goddamn long. Like I feel like you can read 5 other good books in the time it takes

I know but its so good.

Dune

fool me once...

OP here, thanks my dude this is what I was after.

Seems people around here want literature in general so I guess I'll leave a handy guide to the ancient Greeks
