Usefulness in the context of my own life. Self improvement I guess is narcissistic on some level but there is obviously nuance to that. I totally agree on the diet part. I did do the minimalist approach. Three days a week Monday:Push Wednesday:Pull Friday:Legs. That's it.

Did SS + hgomad for about 4 months and have been dabbling with post-novice programming for three months since. Closing in on 1/2/3/4 an I look great and should be switching to intermediate programming soon. The only injury i've had was some overuse inflammation in my knee from cycling to and from work every day and then being on my feet 8-10 hours a day.

Both of you should do SOME cardio, and then when your post-novice or intermediate program is more accommodating to volume days, light days, cardio days, or martial arts, you can focus on your oxydative energy metabolism.

1. the gym is about perfecting the body and physique AND strength. it is BOTH. only lazy people only go for strength.
2. cardio is a essential part of getting a healthy body. you can do either before or after. but it stays in the routine.
3. you have to do compounds AND isolations. no excuses. suck it up and make a PLP program, 3 days on and 1 day off, with cardio and abs. include your compounds and isolation workouts. rep range should be 5x5 for compounds and a minimum of 3x10 for isolations. i dont want to hear about "muh CNS". if you are a baby, go back to SS. you have to max your strength and rep count every fucking day. if you can't take it, then you will never make it. your body has to go thru absolute fucking hell if you want to beat the guy on stage
4. this will take 2 years at best, even with perfect diet. low sugar ice cream is great for extra calories. people that are trying to shortcut cut this with bullshit 1x5's are simply fat and lazy and think lifting a few times a week makes them strong and then wonder why they look horrible. some of them will come on stage because they are so egotistical. they obviously lose.
5. gym will NOT help in a fight. i do security work as a night job. your clientele are homeless drugged out homeless people with hepatitis on PCP or thug gangsters with 2 guns and a knife. getting in fights is for idiots and whoever the user said about getting in fights shows how little real world fighting you have done. if you want to learn fighting, learn boxing+BJJ+wrestling and get a CHL licence and a gun. always call the police if possible, or unless threatened, go for the choke to avoid broken bones/hospital bills.
