It will not permanently fix your eyes.

If it fixes them at all right? But if it's likely i can have low side effect perfect vision to get me through my 20s...

i've heard some bad shit about people getting eyes lazered, having worse eyesight a few years after, i mean a lot worse.

they usually wont do it until you are 25+ because your eyes are changing so much when you are young. my father had it done and he was able to live without glasses for 15 years, and now he just uses readers because his eyes are old and weak

Fug so have I. I'm constantly going back and forth deciding this. I'd hate to try again on contacts and fail like i always do.

There's no fixing your eyes if things go badly--and there are a lot of things that can go badly, both immediately and long term. Look into lasik complications before committing. I wish I would have considered it more carefully than just assuming statistics were on my side.

Got PRK about 4 months ago. Wish I got it years ago 20/15 vision now.

Why prk instead of Lasik?

If you have floaters in your eye you have to redo it as well. Grandpa got it and had to constantly redo it because of floaters but he was already in his 60s

Corneas too thin, and I got paranoid about the flap potentially tearing since I box.

It actually literally permanently fixes your eyes.

Just get contacts

Risks are relatively low and depends more upon the doctors skill. What happened to you?

Do it pussy, got it done 3 year ago and the ROI is amazing. Huge quality of life improvement for me. 0 complications and was healed up with dry eyes gone within like 2 weeks.

I am a pussy. They're my eyes bro.

I got Lasik back in 2013, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life.

My eyesight isn't perfect, but then my prescription was in the upper extremities to begin with, so that was to be expected.

No side effects, save for some halo effect around bright lights in the dark, which means you have to take a bit of extra care while driving at night, but beyond that I am incredibly happy with the procedure.

Does the halo effect still happen now? Or was it when you first got the procedure?

The things about getting some piece of glass inserted into your eyes, is why if somebody nails you straight in the eye after that? Then suddenly you have this knife cutting your eye from inside your eye, and then you'll go blind, most likely.

Best money I ever spent.

It's less intense now, but it's still there.

All in, it's a minor side effect, if you really dislike glasses that much, don't let that one notion put you off.

I'm not OP but I was just curious about that. I've worn glasses since I was about 12, but this thread is making me consider getting it. I'll probably wait until I have enough in my HSA to get the procedure done. How much was it in 2013?

Can I do it if I'm a fraud?

PRK user here. 4200.

I don't think my HSA covers Lasik.

BTW, any glasses Bros know the feel of having t zero periphial vision and not being able to see which girls are checking you out?
>Bro why didn't you make a move she was staring at you all night.
Rip

It does cover lasik.

It was the best money I ever spent. 5 years later vision is still 20/20 or better. Sample size of one but the experience was super smooth. I was freaking out before hand for obvious reasons but by end of the day I had 20/20 vision and after eye drops evwry cpuple hours for first week haven't had to do anything. No side effects I notice. Hope that helps, I shull it to rveryone who asks

I think I paid about £3,000 off the top of my head.

I went for one of the more up-market companies due to having a stronger prescription.

Just wear contracts pussy

Concur with best money spent guy.

Docs have been doing it so long now they’ve worked out all the kinks. Imagine being able to just wake up and see. That was the biggest thing. No more changing out contacts or contact fluid or worrying about leaving them in to long. Just being able to see. Life changing.

My HSA doesn't either(but I'll double check. Where I live it's ~$1000 per eye from what I can tell on the website. My peripheral vision is pretty good, actually. I used to use this speed reading program and it had a lot of peripheral vision exercises. I think it was called AceReader. Pretty good program desu, pirate it if you can.

Have you ever worn contacts?

Here out this piece of plastic over an organ that is supposed to stay moist. Oh and don’t leave it in too long or you risk permanent damage.

Per the IRS, Corrective vision surgery is covered.

what? how do floaters affect it?

don't know how much OP wants to believe some random dude on an anonymous image board but I know a guy who got laser eye surgery in his 50s and now early 60s still wears glasses

I know 2 other people who got it (younger) and they seemed to recommend it. expensive though

I did PRK in 2005. Was -11. Best money I ever spent. A cheat code on life.

This is shit that you have to spend good money on. Don't go for the lowest rates in town or some budget option. Cross reference the clinic's performance to others in your area or better yet travel to the best one in your state.

Bad idea. You might get 20/20 vision but also run the not insignificant risk of fucking your eyes up or experiencing unpleasant side effects.
nytimes.com/2018/06/11/well/lasik-complications-vision.html

Get it if you have below -4.0 vision. Be prepared for pain on the first 48 hours. Your eyes might water for months in the first few years. Mine did. They recovered fine. No longer bother me.

yes I do have floaters and some days I have to blink a lot to get a clear vision.

I asked becaus here because I trust this board more than Reddit which has a dedicated Lasik board but likely dedicated paid shills

fuck that kinda sounds awful and my vision is really, REALLY bad. -5.25 without glasses I can barely see 30 cm away from my face.

Is it worth it?

You're legally blind my friend. Yes get it, its a game changer. You will always be prepared 100% for a fight with laser. Without laser, knock a contact out of eye or lose glasses? you're fucked. Can't even see punches coming.

Yeah I got into a fight behind a bar once during the night all I saw the fist a millisecond before it me, odd that you called that out. What specific surgery do you recommend? I actually wasn't allowed to join the Infantry in the army as a RESERVE because i'm so blind.

Just get the latest lasik. Make sure the doc/clinic you go is experienced and has 10k lasiks done before doing yours. It takes roughly 5-6k for your skills to settle until its stable enough.

best thing i ever did, cried like a bitch on the way home when the anaesthetic wore off

>tfw want lasik but scared of not being able to focus on the laser

I just dont want to come out worse

I wear contacts 12-16 hours a day and experience no negative side effects. I've been wearing them for years and I hardly notice they're there at this point. Plus if I feel like wearing glasses for a change, I can do that too

Ah user I had many of the same fears. Do not worry.

I'm considering SMILE eye surgery once it's been approved for astigmatism

Basically no flap, just a slit, laser goes through the outer layer directly onto the stroma, then the "excess" is removed via slit like taking change out of your pocket

I did it back when I was 21 and it was incredible.

One thing though: follow the post-surgery recovery steps religiously. Fanatically. I got really good results, almost immediately, and have never once had a twinge of pain or even discomfort since the first couple days, and I had PRK.

And the reason, I believe, is because I did all the recovery stuff 100%. Kept my eyes closed for several days, except to administer the drops which I did without fail. Etc. Do not shirk even the tiniest amount on that.

Go for PRK. Best decision in my life. Only regret is i didn't do it 5 years earlier.

Literally know people who have had it and then needed to get it again down the road. Your eyes still deteriorate brainlet

Yeah thats true but if you arent like super old, youll be fine.

Like the other guy said, your eyes do deteriorate but that happens later due to the muscles related to focus. The eye surgery literally slices some of your cornea off, bringing the refraction of light back to your lens.

>have no insurance
>can't wear contacts because I was retarded with them long ago
>arm on glasses broke off, but can still be seated in the socket
>thus they fall off easily
>can't wear glasses in gym for this reason
>can't read words literally 5 ft from me
Kinda sucks, wish I could get lasik

>trusting Jow Forums
You need to go back

I'm going to keep my glasses

There is a new technic called "smile" (i think that was the name).
It is much meant for much more sensitive eyes and is much safer. You should take a look.

been 2 years since i got it
best money i ever spent in my life. literally life changing

my dad said one of his regrets is not getting it done sooner. it just makes everything better.

Die it 5 years ago. Was neat. Still See well.

>have an attractive face when I wear my contacts and regularly get approached by women
>lazer surgery would cost me £9000 every 10 years or some bs

I wish i could do it but i have astigmatism

Well the point was that i don't use Reddit..

Still see well? What can I expect deterioration wise?

go to south korea and get it done for less than 1k euro with world class care and technology

>used to have glasses and absolutely hated it so I decided to get Lasik
>literally went blind, now I have to dictate my posts to my little brother

I had ICL this year.

Best decision of my life. 20/23,000 to 20/20.

That's insane. Is icl something for the mega fucked?

Yes, it is an implant.

Will lead to some shitty things down the road. I will get glaucoma from it, but for right now, I can fucking see, which is great.

contacts are plastic brainlet

Not glaucoma, cataracts

I had Lasik on both eyes back in March. It was the best money I've ever spent. Your vision will get worse eventually, but that is just due to age. I had mine done at 23 so I probably have 25 more years of perfect vision. Also, I've always thought I was a handsome dude, but now that I don't wear glasses anymore I get mired way more, and girls are much more forward with me. If you get the surgery, I promise you will love it.

Unless I'm mistaken there has never been a major incident with lasik. Horror stories are just those, imaginative extrapolations of reports that merely state blurry vision came back years after surgery.
