FAQ >What is /fast/? Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.
>What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.? >Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum. >Water fasting: Fasting with only water. >Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.
>Can I fast if I have ___? See your doctor before fasting if you: >Have any sort of chronic illness >Have gout Don’t fast if you: >Have type 1 diabetes >Are malnourished/severely underweight >Are pregnant >Are breastfeeding
>How do I safely do an extended fast? Take snake juice. ([YouTube] HOW TO START THE SNAKE DIET FOR DUMMIES (embed)) >2000mg of sodium (preferably Himalayan Pink Salt) max >4700mg of saltless potassium max >Mix these in a liter of water and sip it throughout the day. The apple cider vinegar and lemon are optional. You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.
>Won’t I go into starvation mode? No. It only occurs at extremely low body fat (8-10%).
>Will (something with calories) break my fast? Yes, headass.
>Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners? Artificial sweeteners and diet soda are bad for you and may fuck up your fast. Zero calorie black coffee and tea ware generally considered to be fine.
>Do I need a multivitamin? Not unless you’re fasting for a month or longer.
No, I used to make these threads. Stopped after number 220 or so.

why has this been not copied properly for the past 10 threads or so? baka
also on about a 20 hour fast where I was eating keto for a few days previously, feeling a bit light headed currently. and hungry, trying to watch disgusting fat people eat garbage to curb my hunger. hard to imagine i won't break it after 24 hours, though.
Justin Gomez
should i do prolonged fast if i train hard 4 days a week heavy lifting in the gym? or would OMAD with a 48 hour fast every weekend be more advisable. I have about 40ish pounds to lose.
Fuck it do it and if it sucks to much stop. Im about to start a indefinite fast while doing 5 days a week in the gym doing weights 3 days and doing cardio the other 2..
Austin Long
fasting is the ultimate fitness pill
Robert Reed
Doing a 24h fast. Does it matter how I break my fast?
Juan Campbell
Will chewing gum break a fast?
Zachary Lee
at 24 you can literally eat whatever the fuck you want. Though I do advise eating something light like some broccoli chicken and brown rice to feel as good as possible. If you go for the chicken tendies 10 piece with curly fries you will feel like dogshit if you've been dieting for a while.
Hunter Ortiz
yes
Christian Brooks
whats the end game of fasting diet? do you do it for the rest of your life or can you go to a regular diet after you lose most of the fat?
Mason Turner
carb blockers
Brayden Foster
Alright goys i'm in need of some advice. At the beginning of this summer I started the fasting lifestyle and have seen great benefits. I was 6'1 232 lbs on june 3rd and now im at 189 and eating one meal a day to start now im on one meal every other day. Ive been doing this for a while and I thought it would get easier but it seems to only get harder. I still have 19lbs to go and I'm stuck in the loop of wanting to eat OMAD thinking that it isn't so bad but when I do eat I feel horribly guilty for it. Anyone else feel similarly?
James Cruz
thanks mate
Jayden Foster
The end game is a body fat %, and you use it to get and stay there.
Hudson Green
How should I fit fasting into my workout schedule? I lift M-T-Th-F.
Julian Young
day 3 of a 30 day fast. I'm keeping busy, but in so doing I am surrounded by people eating food. Watching tv and there's so many food ads. Watching youtube they just want me to eat shit. but I wont be swayed, I want to be skelly mode by Halloween and I just have to lose 30 pounds. I can feel it, I'm gonna make it, I actually feel pretty normal for the most part, just have to be careful about head rushes when getting up too fast (been helping with a community garage sale, lots of squatting and standing). Any way to reduce this?
Hunter Rogers
I know that I'm going to have to change some habbits, like no snacking, and either smaller meals or just one to two meals a day. but I'm liking the way I feel when not eating, and eating makes me tired and sluggish. My workouts are better before eating anyway
Jayden Cooper
don't give yourself an eating disorder brah
you're almost at a normal weight anyhow i hope you're working out
Daniel Carter
96 hours into a fast right now. The first 60 were dry. Drinking 2L of snake juice between that 60 hour mark and tonight. I went from 254 Sunday to 241 today. Depleting them glycogen stores. Hoping to finally crack 240 for the first time in 5 years.
Jack Bennett
i'm sorry user but it doesn't count until you're under 240 even with your water weight
Jeremiah Allen
I know, because of refeed rebound. I am not stopping until I hit like 150, so I rebound to 160. But the fact that I'm this far down in such a short time (50 lbs total) is fucking incredible to me.
Easton Gonzalez
over 96 hours in now. anyone else have issues with elevated heart rate? Blood pressure was 130/68 with a pulse of 93, whereas my BP is normally around 120/60 with a pulse around ~60.
Not sure what the cause is. Haven't had caffeine in about 8 hours. Drinking water didn't help. Drinking snake juice didn't help. light cardio (walking) and relaxing afterwards didn't help. It's not really bothering me overtly but I just don't understand why.
Jaxson Ortiz
Eyezmaze just released a game for you guys, so that you can sit on your fat ass and imagine that you're dieting at the same time: eyezmaze.com/sp/2018/08/diet.html
Leo Reyes
potassium deficient? potassium overdosing?
Robert Robinson
We lost count way after 220, I made a couple and forgot to put in the subject line
Carson Young
Shit, after 20 hours I went to full chimp mode and break the fast with disgusting foods. Let's try again tomorrow 72 hours fasting and then keto omad..
Nolan Green
>could be high OR low potassium well let me just run out to labcorp and get my chem7 checked
In all seriousness though, I've been taking a moderate amount of potassium daily. Don't think that's the issue, especially since I had it during a portion of the day where I wasn't drinking salt water, and it also didn't go away when drinking salt water either.
did anyone refute what this user said? i want to start fasting but i dont want to blow out my kidneys : /
Gavin Hughes
Fasting raises the heart rate
Nathaniel Gray
Unless you already have preexisting kidney disease, your kidneys will do fine at their job of regulating sodium. All the extra salt that the body doesn't need will get pissed out. Being on a fast doesn't change this. I would be more worried about potassium balance though, since that one behaves differently due to being intracellular, but the body still does a decent job with its homeostasis. Just don't overdo it and take a fuckton of potassium, but also don't forgo it on a long-term fast.
Anthony Adams
Do you know why, and by how much usually?
Eli Gonzalez
Unsure to both questions, looking shit up on it now. I suspect it has something to do with raised cortisol on a fast.
Jonathan Perez
If i reduce the recipe and stick to a liter a day will i be okay?
basically: > 1 L water > 1/3 tsp sodium chloride > 2/3 tsp sodium bicarbonate > 2/3 tsp potassium chloride
Jayden Jackson
I'm not finding much on this, not even finding consensus that fasting is supposed to raise your heart rate.
Owen Howard
those seem pretty low, especially your NaCl. But hey, try it and see if it works for you. Just look up the symptoms of low sodium and low potassium and if you think you're experiencing those symptoms, bump it up. You're certainly not overdoing it.
Daniel Robinson
I see, thanks for looking into it though. It's nothing alarming but I was curious
William Roberts
I am, no need to worry on that front
Ayden Reed
>50+% increase in resting heart rate >not alarming
yeah and when i had afib at 170bpm i still felt fine and was able to sleep through it
Connor Gray
okay, and you're a fat 50yo boomer with multiple disease states.
Michael Watson
nope i was 22 at the time, there is such a thing as congenital defects turboretard niggerfaggot
Jaxon Thompson
stopped fasting for 10 days gained like 16 lbs. I imagine most of that is waterweight though.
I enjoy seeing the rapid fluctuations in weight. Also I love losing weight fast, and gaining weight fast is pretty fun too. I wonder why its so hard for people to gain and lose now? I can do both easy.
Eli Gonzalez
okay zyzz
Gavin Butler
16 lbs of mostly water weight? That doesn't sound right to me. Were you binge eating or something?
Daniel Ortiz
16 lbs is a hell of a lot to be chalked up to water weight, you gained at least 6-7 lbs of fat
Dominic Wood
That's easily doable for a bigger person. Most people can fluctuate 5-8 lbs from glycogen stores alone. Not to mention sodium, more overall fluid retention, however many pounds in increased gut contents. Probably only a couple pounds of actual tissue weight.
I weighed in at 180.6 lbs at my last powerlifting meet. I was >195 lbs 24 hours later.
Kevin Wilson
Going to start a 48-hour dry fast right now, is there any tips to avoid headaches?
Oliver Mitchell
>is there any tips to avoid headaches? Yeah, don't do a dry fast. nigga drink water
Chase Sanchez
Wait I haven’t been here in a while What happened to adding epsom salt and bi carb to snake juice?
Asher Scott
Fuck it then, I can handle it for just 2 days..
Wyatt Bailey
Will a handful of olives (say 3, about 40 cals) break autophagy?
Lincoln Rivera
The fuck would you dry fast for? Drink water.
Jackson Powell
I mean, isn't dry fast way more efficient than water fast?
Asher Howard
It will break your fast and produce ravenous hunger.
Nicholas Nguyen
>over friends place >Going to break fast with some meatloaf I make them >Eat one cracker from the box for cracker crumbs >Eat handful of crackers >Eat 5 powdered doughnuts >Eat half a bag of chips >Eat 3 scoops of ice cream >Was too full for meatloaf >Violent shits all night I would have been fine at home!
Christian Moore
>crackers and powdered donuts
shit way to binge eat desu
Aiden Adams
Alternate Day fasting is pretty sustainable imo.
Thomas Martinez
i really really like this image
Ryan White
Zoomer here. How do you guys deal with parents who shove food on you? What's the best way to say "thanks but no thanks" without breaking their heart? My parents are both professional cooks and I'm trying to figure out a way to stop them making me shit without asking.
Long-term fasting is done every so often for health reasons. For instance you can do intermittent or OMAD or whatever daily, then every month or two do a 72 hour fast to clean your organs. Most religions understood the massive benefit of this and had these fasts coded into their holy days which happened regularly during the year. Jews, for instance, even dry fast as a ritual.
Christopher Moore
>Jews, for instance, even dry fast as a ritual.
they also cut pieces of innocent babies cocks off and then suck said baby cock
Jaxon Nelson
Just because a religion has horrible aspects, doesn't mean that it doesn't have very good aspects. You should learn to stop letting a couple bad ideas taint the whole for you and start sifting through the ideas that are offered.
Ian Brown
You gotta be more assertive user. If you're overweight and they're still feeding you, then they're literally breaking your heart too.
Anthony Brown
i miss grandpa omaw
Bentley Lopez
Nothing's very good about the Jew, or the Muslim.
Cooper Cruz
Know thine enemy. If you aren't a fool you will look at what makes their societies strong and accept those traits into your own, while excluding the ones that make them weak. If you are to proud to learn from those you hate, then you will lose.
Evan Ramirez
Are there any health risks to repeated fasting? Like if you were to do multiple 20-40 day fasts a year, does it hit a point outside of low bf% where it becomes dangerous?
Dylan Powell
Don't be a retard.
Zachary Parker
Has anyone used cayenne during a fast or done some research on it? I know it was optional for snake juice for a while, but is it legit?
Anthony Foster
108 hours, 185.0 lbs Yesterday was tougher than the other days. No hunger pangs but I had this mild burning sensation in my stomach, similar to GI irritation from taking NSAIDs on an empty stomach. Made some ginger tea from fresh ginger root, and I think that helped. Heart rate is also consistently elevated. Not to an alarming rate, but it's there. I imagine this is due to increased epinephrine secretion. At least I'm sleeping better now, even if it's still for a shorter duration than I'm used to. But every day I've woken up feeling alive and ready, rather than groggy, so that's a plus.
Also, does anyone know how much water weight rebounds back after returning to maintenance caloric intake? I don't want to dip below 10% bodyfat because I'm afraid lower bodyfat will lend itself to more muscle wasting. I estimate this point to be around ~180 lbs, but I don't want to reach 180, eat normally, and then suddenly I'm 185.
More muscle = more water weight. Don't you have calipers or something like that to measure it? I'd say about 2-4lbs is water weight
Jaxson Hughes
Thanks. No, I don't have calipers
Andrew Torres
Also at 10% you'll be pretty shredded, so I think on day 10 you'll be on point to stop fasting and be at your goal. If you get lower than 11-10% you get ravenously hungry so you'll know.
Zachary Sanchez
>be me, 265 lbs >do low carb omad with a couple of 48 hour fasts thrown in for 4 weeks, lose 14 lbs >have a bad week, went out drinking twice, ate bad food like 3 times, >still stuck to OMAD on that bad week, gained 1lb >decide to do first 3 day fast to get back on the wagon >weigh myself this morning (60 hours in) >242 lbs Is fasting the ultimate red pill?
Jack Williams
>doesn't post if he is fat or not
Asher Roberts
Put this man in the OP next time. Gonna make our little thread fit better here on Jow Forums.
There was another dude, even more muscular, in the previous thread. There are also some heavy lifters on the discord servers
Cooper Lewis
I don't want to be in the OP Strength changes are hard to assess during the fast itself. Right now I'm working at 90% my normal intensity, and lower volume. I record all my workout stats so I'll be able to assess strength levels and report back after the fast is over.
John Wood
Record your strength stats right before you end the fast. Then 1 day after a fast. Then 1 week after a fast. Lastly compare it to your baseline before you went on a fast.
Daniel Russell
that's the plan. I always record my stats regardless.
Sebastian Watson
Nice, just that I myself didn't record those stats and did it for health benefits. I did notice that 1 day after the refeeding I had a hurricane of energy and was literally lifting like a madman. I am curious if youl have a similar effect.
Nicholas Myers
yall think a 3 day snake juice would be enough to drop a few percentage points of bodyfat? I'm 6'1 170 11%
Isaac Hernandez
you'll lose like 3lbs
Hunter Powell
if it's just fat that's fine. it'll probably be a little of both considering my experience with two meals a day on caloric deficit.. down about 40 pounds since July
Austin Perez
>3 day fast >drop a couple % of fat Let say you burn fat at 3500 cal a day. In 3 days youd burn ~10000 cals. Now 10 000 cals of fat weights about 3 pounds Assuming your retarded idea of "couple" which means at least 2. 3 pounds would have to make up at least 2% of body fat.
William Scott
6'1 170 lbs? I'd bulk up instead if I were you.
Jaxson Kelly
Will fasting for 48 hours help me cut my last 4 pounds or does fasting require more preparation? Only have 2 days until I leave for vacation
