I'm JayOr, the developer of a NEET/robot Visual Novel. I made a post about it yesterday, and you guys really seemed interested.
The premise is that you died, and have been reborn in a Harem Anime RomCom! But wait... you're just a background character? Will you overthrow the protagonist to steal his waifus, or will you carve your own path in this new world? With the looming threat of [ERASURE] haunting you and a mystery that seems to keep unraveling, every choice you make matters.
I've added quite a bit to the demo since yesterday, and if this is your first time hearing about it then please give it a try. I'd love to hear what you have to say. I'm making this post mainly to get feedback, but I am also looking for a talented artist and composer to create original art for the game.
Haha well don't get too excited, there's only so much I can add in one evening. But I think I've added enough content to fix the criticism I got yesterday that there wasn't enough to understand the stakes. Either way, let me know what you think!
Jordan Roberts
Oh yeah, this thread is intended to be more of a "small update" or bonus to the first. It's just to show that I can backup my claims and I can do it quickly. I've fixed most of the problems that came with yesterday's release - now I'm planning to add a shit ton of content and make a larger update in the coming weeks. I'm new to game development, so I figure it's best to be as transparent as possible with you guys.
Evan Ortiz
Pretty good, man, still pretty interested in this. How are the twintails supposed to be btw? Down low or up high? Down is best imo desu, although I don't think it carries the same childish look she's supposed to have
I was thinking this kind of look, but it's pretty flexible. Whatever helps her fulfill the trope of "cute underclassman that speaks in third person", y'know? Why do you ask? Would you consider yourself an artist?
Side note: thoughts on the new title? The title "Life as a Mob Character" seemed to confuse people, so I changed it to this. I think it works better.
Thomas Peterson
Nah, I like that style better.
Gavin Morgan
Could also be "Life as a Background Character".
Nathaniel Sanchez
are those their first names? it's odd seeing their first name followed by -san, since that's more of a polite not-friends thing, while first names are reserved for people extremely close.
don't mind me, just a weeb passing through
David Adams
Nah, Eiji is his first name and Nakamura is his last name, for example. I might have been a bit inconsistent with the last name proceeding the first, so that's something I'll definitely fix for next time. Thanks!
Caleb Brown
If you end up like YandereDev I'm going to be severely disappointed, young man.
Nathan Price
I meant it more for Hikaru-san since it sounds like a first name general rule of thumb, -san is used like Mr. or Ms., so it's mainly used with last names. -chan/-kun can be for first and last names, so it depends how close the speaker and the person are. like, a classmate who is friends but is still not that close might call him Nakamura-kun, but a best friend or childhood friend would probably say Eiji-kun, or even just Eiji or a nickname like ei-kun. it's also not uncommon to ask someone if it's okay to change the honorific, since it's kind of assuming to just act close all of a sudden.
sorry, i like to rant about this stuff
William Gutierrez
Sorry if this sounds vague, I don't know how else to word it. Not sure if you were already planning on this, but maybe you could make the world more than a generic romcom harem anime, like add another twist to it or something. I still love what you have so far, and good luck with future development!
I agree with all that except that in my Japanese class I learned that kun/chan is more of a childish way of talking to someone, and san is more respectful. It's like a cutesy way of talking to someone. I like talking about this stuff too, that's why I'm making this kind of game! I promise I won't end up like YandereDev. :)
Thomas Young
Keep in mind we've only seen the school so far. There's a whole world out there... right? Guess you'll have to keep playing to find out ;)
Justin Wood
You guys sure this ain't malware?
Jose Johnson
I promise you it's not. I don't want to be looking through your degenerate furry porn.
it is a more cutesy way, but that's pretty normal if they're in high school. A lot of girls will call their friends in cutesy ways too, and it's not that weird either. Ultimately depends on the speaker, though. I guess most average guys wouldn't use -chan or -kun, but more flamboyant/popular types would, if that makes sense.
Grayson Gonzalez
Add to Steam EA. Not installing shit from some mediafire link, sorry.
Caleb Reyes
Fair enough, I'll look into Steam EA. I totally understand the hesitation people may have, but again this is just a short demo and I'm not getting super serious with showing it off to people yet. I'll have safer download options down the line.
Justin Cox
Cool. I'll bookmark your pages and keep tabs on your development.
John Morris
I just played the demo and I'm liking the concept. I don't have much to add, but I want you to know that I'll be following this. Its nice to have an Jow Forums visual novel
Benjamin Hill
Thank you. Gentle reminder that I have a twitter for an easy way to follow the game's development, at twitter.com/JayOrDev
Oliver Cooper
Why did you choose "mob character" at first? I've never heard that used to describe a background character before
Carson Gomez
This game is based on an older /qst/ quest that ran for a month or so. The original QM stopped running it, but I liked it so much that I decided to turn it into a VN. The QM is BSG, and he is credited at the end. The original title is " I Am Reborn in a Harem RomCom, but I'm Only A Mob Character?!" and the phrase [Mob Character] and [Mob] is pretty emblematic of the whole thing. Even if "background character" makes more sense or is more common, I'm planning on sticking with the term "mob character" because it has such a history. I guess mob could be thought of like a mob of people, where there are no individuals. That's pretty accurate to background characters, right?
Cooper Baker
Ah When I think mob I immediately think Mafia
Nicholas Lopez
You aren't the first, hahaha
Justin Gray
I think of Mob Psycho lol
Gavin Gomez
>makes a game about being a loser >6 followers

Nathan Martinez
Oh nice, we're at 6 now?? Development started a few days ago and I have a demo that's only a couple minutes long, so I'm pretty impressed with how well things are going! :)
