Do you skip core workout?

I do
I NEVER work abs

Most of your strength comes from the core. Not having strong abs is retarded.

I tried to but it messed up my lower back a bit and it hurt for 3 weeks

I did but then I found an exercise that actually liked so now I do that for abs

I never work abs too. I don't see the point. If they are storng enough to do squats/deadlift/rows beltless they are strong enough for me. What else am I meant to do for abs that squats and deadlifts cant

Attached: 9fb.jpg (1280x720, 66K)

I've always kind of neglected mine. They're strong enough for my squats/deads. But they don't look good. My stomach is just kind of flat and solid.

Anyone have a good routine or an easy way to implement effective ab building into a PPLPP routine?

I just started going to a new gym and it has a crunch machine and it's awesome. Highly recommend

do tell

decline situps

I do a lot of rotational stuff that gives me stronk abs and obliques. Mainly for fighting

I start all my workouts with a 20 minute ab set, I'm autistic enough that it helps prepare me for the workout because I like a routine I can recognize (I hate it when my routine gets messed up because the gym is crowded. It's my favorite muscle to have be strong because I just feel like a big sturdy tree when I'm just chilling.

Why do normalfaggots think that you need to have an absolutely perfect diet and training regime to have visible abs?

It really isn't that hard

This is the reason nobody makes it.

yeah, but we're asking what workout you do perform?

Started doing front squats not that long ago. fucking absolutely love them and my core is getting way tighter.

I like to finish my workouts with two sets of ab wheel. Other than that I don't really work abs at all. Only if I'm doing a calisthenic routine away from home.

Is this true?

If you do deads squats or bench then you work your abs

Planking plus deadlift, standing OHP, etc pretty much is my ab workout.

You're so cute, repeating what other DYEL faggots say like broken records even tho it has been proven again and again that compounds aren't enough to stimulate core hypertrophy

Attached: shot433.jpg (800x1209, 179K)

most of the exercises I do are either heavy compounds or closed chain ones (and a lot of times, both), if anything I feel my core needs some rest lol

I work them out every day. 2 sets upper, 2 sets lower, 1 set upper obliques, 1 set lower obliques.

you need to brace your core in many movements (squats, deads, ohp, rows, etc.), so working your abs will definitely help.

I've seen enough
>fell for compounds are enough for abs meme
excuses on here, so yeah. 3-4 days a week for progressive overloaded 6-15 rep ranges for 2-4 sets of 1-2 exercises a day, focus on obliques so I do at least one for them every day. And one of the days is a bit of a more memey abs circuit with higher reps stuff.
Also some to all of planks/activations/stomach vacuums/tuck hangs as part of my morning routine.

Every day is legday.
If your quads are smaller than your waist, you are weak.

I'm using ppl too and recently I decided to add some exercises to target my weak groups specifically (I'm a wristlet, my forearms are small and I also want better abs). I do them in addition to the main routine, so it looks like this (work in progress):

(my ppl routine - abcxabc, where a is push, b is legs and c is pull, x is rest day)
abaxbab, all myo reps - 20 + 3-5 till failure
a ---
shrugs (I feel like my traps aren't being attacked enough)
inverse curls (I prefer EZ bar)
wrist curls (pronated and supinated)
farmer's walk (with db or trap bar, doesn't matter, keep walking until you're spent x3)

b ---
ab crunch machine
dip leg raise (any leg raise variation should do)
incline crunches (always keep tension)
plank (raise your arm/leg or both if it's too easy)

You get enough ab work done with almost every other exercise like preacher curls, triceps extensions, and calf raises

None of those work abs. You are not going to make it.

>. 3-4 days a week for progressive overloaded 6-15 rep ranges for 2-4 sets of 1-2 exercises a day
What exercises?

you're thinking about it wrong.
imagine how much more you could lift if you did extra core work

Do a couple ab wheel sets each workout. Easy shit to throw in at the end just like calves.

>I start all my workouts with a 20 minute ab set

>weakening your core BEFORE doing heavy compounds

wew

>Anyone have a good routine or an easy way to implement effective ab building into a PPLPP routine?

Just do them at the end of your routine on alternating days.

I do cable crunches and leg raises on the captain's chair. No breaks between. Ab work is most effective when you hit them until you think you're gonna spew.

Attached: 1300044776986.jpg (600x600, 34K)

Also look up the form on cable crunches - most people do them wrong. Keep your hips high and actually crunch.

My warmup includes woodchoppers (along with facepulls and pushups). I also do leg raises on the captains chair on leg days.

Tfw stopped working core a month ago and my ohp went down because I can't stabilize the weights properly. Do you hanging leg raises/weighted planks for the love of god

I do hanging leg raises and/or isometric L-sits, in addition to deadlifts and OHPs (no squats for now due to knee injury).

However from what I've read, hanging leg raises are mostly lower abs. I need a crunch-type variation for upper abs, what is the best one? I used to do planks, but after working up to 2m+ I don't see the point anymore (yes you can do it weighted and do it with worse leverages, but meh)

Yeah that’s why most sports have you focus on your core as well

Many times in compound movements the limiting muscle groups aren’t the main ones, but the auxiliary muscles. So if your core is the limiting factor in squats and deads, training your core can remove that limitation.

I do
on leg day
so call me crazay

Abs=/=core

No because quite frankly all ab exercises looks fucking gay
This is why I am considering getting an ab wheel to use at home. Are they any good?

Haven’t found anything good besides planks that feels good to me.

Ab wheel rollouts are just too hard for me, even on my knees. My abs are very weak, I weigh 115kg cuz tall and also fat, so I just can’t use them as entry exercise.
Then there are hanging leg raises which are praised. But I just can’t fucking focus on using my abs properly because grip is always on the verge of failing and also abs are probably too weak again, so I can’t do proper reps, end up just kind of using my hip flexor to raise my legs, hard to describe.

Sit-ups and crunches are being advised against by some pretty damn knowledgeable people, so I would think they actually aren’t something you would want to do.

That basically leaves us with planks, which are OK to do but it feels like some actual range of motion would be more effective in addition.

Ab wheels are the best desu senpai. You'll need something for your knees tho. It can hurt if they're on the floor.

4x15 with a 45lb pl8

underrated

That's what people who've never lifted in their life think. The carryover isn't even noticeable

What about this?

Attached: Kneeling+Cable+Crunch.jpg (400x244, 30K)

core is much more than just abs. you will get better core strength by doing deadlifts and squats, you just wont necessarily get abs

I just front squat damn near every training session. Stack that on top of compounds and pull-ups, and there really isn't a reason to train abs directly very often.

IMO weighted planks have the best carryover to the compound lifts. You can also consider zercher holds/front squat holds

don't take this site too serious

I used to but my back hurts from compensating for my weak abs

I love these but I always feel like I'm doing them wrong.

Do ab wheel on a ramp
Crunches are fine faggot

Fuck doing abs, front squats work them well enough.

but what exercise do you do with that 45lb pl8?

exactly. couldn't diddly or squat for half a year. fuck that shit

this is banned in my gym

I do weighted decline sit-ups 5 x 20 35lbs three days a week, looking to get to 1pl8 soon.

>caring how you look while working out
never gonna make it

Hips are severely underlooked as well.

instead of leg raises do knee raises to chest. It forces you to use abs even if you do use hip flexors. You dont have to do them hanging you can use a dip station instead.

I for one just do ab wheel rollouts, hanging raises and windshield wipers. I love rollouts because they also train hollow body position which is good training for front lever/dragon flags

Could have had a hundred (You)s and it'd still be underrated.

I never work core. I do compounds though. Pic related.

LOL not a single user posting their bods and claiming not training their abs is alright. Tells you a lot about society!

I don't get it

dumb ass spotted

keep in mind that it is OBJECTIVE FACT that most users of this board literally can't even lift 1/2/3/4. These are the people telling you "bro ab isolation is useless jus need ma squats xDDD" While they are squatting 235 fucking lb

For good measure, do the opposite of what mongoloids on this board agree on; they don't lift shit. I don't care what your lifts are, if you don't do some sort of core work you lift bitch weight

I work core like 6 times a week because Jeff told me to. But then I feel like I'm kinda half-assing it with not enough intensity since I hate most ab exercises.

At least one of these:
Standing side raises
Swiss ball side raises
Hanging side tuck raises
Sometimes Russian twists instead of of lower rep heavier weight stuff
Woodcutters

Sometimes one of these too:
Back extensions
Hanging leg raises
Ab wheel rollouts
Weighted planks

You have to find the right form for everything here.
And generally a few minutes of planks between warming up and doing some in rests between other abs/calves stuff.
Some crawls can be pretty good too, but I don't do that at the gym.
Abs circuit is a bunch of stuff like flutter kicks, laying leg raises, ball throws, spider crunches, etc. just like the memes.

sorry, finally a true man, may Zizz protec you!

Jump rope minutes every morning and evening

kek

F

Fucking amazing

you will get a strong lower back and isometric strength in your abs. you won't get necessarily get strong in explosive core movements such as a punch or hook kick. In Practical Programming, Rippetoe thinks you should add in a weighted situp type movement.

>I never work core
We know, we can see that

same here, it's fucking stupid tho.
Really don't know why i can train anything but abs.

It's important for functional strength, but should build up with functional activities anyway so whatever

Lmao

>there are people on Jow Forums this bad at detecting sarcasm

Post abs

Crunches and situps are bad for you

I do one core exercise each day I lift (3x a week). Currently I alternate hanging knee raise and one hand farmer’s walk. I’m considering to buy an ab wheel as well.

I love doing situps but they're shit for your back so I mostly do bike crunches and planks. Bought an ab wheel but I don't think I'm using it properly, can barely feel anything when i use it

why?

Nice bait, faggot.

>explosive core movements

What the fuck does this look like? Wii fit Trainer’s moveset in smash?

He immediately followed it with "such as", but sure.. let's explain it further. It's literally anything explosive. You use your core for everything, and if you don't that's why you're so weak.

If you use it for “everything” then why not do some other explosive movement like power cleans?

Damn, hot body, no homo. I want to look like this.

The only decent ab exercise

Love situps, dont care if i wreck my back tthey feel so good

Anyone here does obliques at home and sees progress? I do side planks but they suck and I end up hurting my shoulder or my legs give up before my obliques. Can I get some recommentations?

Try russian twists, like them a lot

haha would've missed this if it weren't for all the replies
