Just bought a Marcy 100lb standard weight bench.

Figured, well, I can't be that strong since I haven't lifted for like a year. 100lbs should be a good goal to work towards.

Immediately place all 100lbs of the "sand weights" onto the "standard barbell" and realize....

Holy shit, most men must be nu-male, onions green boys. This shit's light as fuck. I also found out that the max plate on a standard bench is 25lbs.

I'm wondering if I should return it or just keep loading it with 25lb weights until it breaks, then upgrade.

it comes with weights and 25lbs is like 11kg which is dyel barbel weight

also I'm guessing it won't level so you have a very limited bench only made for one thing

Followed scoob's advice and got my home gym just today. Already finished my push day (bench, flys, ohp, incline bench, skullcrushers)
So far so good.
Now i get why its important to get bench and stands separately.

True dat. Not sure how much mine can handle. I think it was 140kg. But that'll work for now. Need to get a real barbell soon that weighs 20kg flat.

It can use both the plates that screw on (they are cheap around here because they are just solid iron, not bumper resin) and usual plates.

Are standard plates not too wide?

I have a ~8kg bar that can support up to 150 something KG and i have around 120kg of weights that i got for dirty cheap (bench +3 bars+ weights all for 150bucks).Honestly they are ok, i can just buy an olympic bar for deadlifts and squats and a rack. People would just buy a professional set for an athlete at once lmao

ps max plate on standard bench is 25kg around most gyms which is like 55lbs

Nigga a standard Olympic plate has a 2 inch diameter hole and your bar has the diameter the same as the grip diameter which is obviously not 2 inches. Meaning your bar uses one inch diameter plates, not Olympic plates.
