My athletics trainer told me that if you are able to do a pull up with 1.6 times your bodyweight
For example you are 160 lbs and can do a pull up with +265 lbs strapped on you, you have the genetics to get a 9.70 100 m sprint and even faster
I call it broscience but he says that if you can generate that pound for pound strenght that fast with such a heavy weight for your 1RM you can do the same with your gluteals muscles since the lats and glutes are part of the posterior chain
He is making me do pull ups like crazy and i hate them, what do you think /fit ? Is that legit ?
He claims there are lots of sprinters types these strenght based and the reactive based
Reactive= bolt and lewis
Strenght based= mo greene, ben johnson
He seems to know a lot but dude broscience a lot
Zachary Green
I used to train for the discus throw and my trainer said the same. Said that pull ups are one of the best ways to measure your relative strength. I was 180cm and 87kg and my 100m was 12s.
Nicholas Ortiz
I absolutely refuse to believe a personal trainer would ever talk out of his ass!
Angel Phillips
I neither think so and i will do my pull ups but why are athletics trainers this cringe
Also a 1.6 added to your bodyweight pull up is just insane
If you weight 200 lbs you would need 320 lbs strapped on you thats just lmao impossible for humans
Christopher Perry
I asked him about what about bench, dips or overhead press even deadlift (spinal erectors)
He told me those muscles arent connected with the ones you use to sprint at all and they have correlation, but pull ups are more accurate seems weird but makes a kind of sense
He makes mention that the neural activation on pull ups is pretty similar to a sprint
Logan Wright
Forgot to ask what was your pull up max and weighted pull up 1RM
Carter Scott
I never did weighted pull ups, I did not need to for the discus throw. Juat wantes to let you know that my trainer also believed in this whole thing. My max pull ups was about 12 full range of motion pull ups.
Parker Anderson
Interesting stuff
Matthew Mitchell
Even if that is true who the fuck can do a 2.6 times bw pullup
Owen Sanchez
1.6* but still is hardcore af
Jose Hall
>weigh 400lbs >pullup with over 600lbs added >9.70 100m sprint too easy mang
Sebastian Johnson
What does that translate into as a barbell row?
Most people can get up to like 1.25 * bodyweight pendlay row naturally
Michael Thompson
Imagine that thing coming to you on a rugby field
Isaac Cooper
>For example you are 160 lbs and can do a pull up with +265 lbs strapped on you, you have the genetics to get a 9.70 100 m sprint and even faster >and even faster >world record for 100m sprint is 9.58 wow
Brandon Thompson
I have no idea but i would say for a 2.5/3 times bodyweight pendlay row maybe
Cooper Gray
Bolt isnt strong but he is probably the most reactive athlete there has ever been
This is applied only to strenght based athletes with lack of reactivity
Aka ben johnson
Dylan Reyes
I did a ~1.43 BW pullup the other day (~83kg BW +35kg)
And I was always the fastest guy in my school, even when I got to playing senior level GAA football for my local side it think only two guys were faster than me.
Just some anecdotal evidence for you OP
Perhaps having a small frame helps with pull-ups and sprinting because it keep you light. That’s just what I think though
Logan Diaz
Fatties don’t do pull-ups
I wonder what the heaviest weight ever pulled up was
Connor Gonzalez
Its +1.6
So if you want to run a 9.60 on the 100 m dash
You need a +132 KG weighted pull up
Anyways what you mention is pretty interesting, some people may need less strenght
