why doesn't lifting big on bench let me do a gorrillion pushups?
Why doesn't lifting big on bench let me do a gorrillion pushups?
muscle endurance isn't the same thing
Because you're a fat fuck
training to failure will help
I'm 146 pounds and that's after 4 months of lifting and 17 pounds bulked on in that time
Because any fat fuck can bench alot.
Pushups separate men from boys
>why doesn't strength training give me more endurance
Any twink can do lots of push ups. I bet you were one of those skinny faggots in high school who used to think hes strong because you can do more push ups than bigger guys.
I went from 95 lb bench to 215 lb and can still only struggle through twenty pushups.
This
The two workouts use similar muscle groups, but in different ways. Plus, push ups are more reliant on core strength, so even if your pectorals and triceps are strong, if you lack core strength, then you won't be able to do proper push ups for very long without wearing yourself out.
Fat fuck detected
I can get to 40 because of military fitness standards but pretty much same
this
Cause two are not related. I don't know a better way to describe it. I was maxing pushups on APFT (77 or 79 in 2 minutes to max) since pretty much shortly after basic. I got into lifting a bit later and could barely do one rep of... 115 or 95. I did them with elbows flared out, so not like in the pic, but more like the way I would bench these days. Yes, sure its the same muscle groups (chest, tri, and moreso core in pushups), but push ups are about endurance not strength.
Also that twink got more pussy than you
fpbp
And why is that surprising?
Pushups are around 90% body weight bench press reps. Do a push-up on your scale and check how much kilo is applied, you will see.
Now translate 90% of your BW for 20 reps into bench press for equal weight ask yourself if you are supposed to do that easily.
because you do hypertrophy without training strength, if you did strength training and then hypertrophy, then you would be able to do more push ups, however to do hundreds of push ups you need endurance, either by doing a shit ton of reps in a row, increasing the time undertension, decreasing the time of rest, or doing push ups, bench press and push ups are not the same movements.
>90%
not even close guy.
sure maybe if you lean on the scale. When you do the actual movement, everything from calf down is resting on your toes, and your abs, spinal erectors and legs are whats keeping yourleg-ass-stomach/lowerb black flat, so your chest and tris are moving maybe half your body weight.
Once you can bench your bodyweight stop adding more weight, and stop doing sets.
Just go straight to AMRAP, and try and beat your high score each time.
Get yourself onto a scale, go down into the bottom of the movement and check the scale.
How the fuck do you think do you toes exercise meaningful mechanical force upwards from the bottom of a push up position??
Your abs stabilize you, but they don’t act as a force upwards so I have no fucking idea why you think they would reduce the amount of weight you are moving lol
It does.
Just do 3 sets of 10.
the weight on the scale would not change, as the compound force pushing down is the same. its the fact that your chest and triceps only do half the work that matters, as opposed to doing bench where its almost all them. gtfo here with your scale, it doesn't show you what muscles are engaged. as for your toes - the muscles on your lower leg is whats keeping shit from the knee and bellow erect, not your upper body. The lower skeleton feeds into pelvic area, and thats where abs and spinal erectors take over. Finally by the time you get to chest and triceps, they have so little of your lower body weight to move, its not even noticable.
This
>get in line for apft
>sgt says you better max soldier you're huge
>barely get the minimum
>user what happened out there?
Strength and endurance are separate feats
>don't know sarge, i carbed up on donuts yesterday too. I carb up on donuts everyday, thats why I am so huge.
40 pushups is probationary in every branch so I better get my max to like 60 before I ship out lmao
Because it's a completely different movement, you dumbass.
100 push-ups app actually works
When I was a dyel at 140lbs in the army I could eke out 50. 4 years of lifting and 30lbs heavier, I can blast out a mind shattering set of 52.
When I joined I hit 62-65 consistently at 170#. Now that I'm 205 and lift, I got 50 on my last one.
Its time to cut bro, you will be down to 150 with no loss of muscle mass, I guaran fucking tee you.
Just stop, tubby. Think of your battle buddies, and how it would be easier on them to carry your injured ass for a few miles if you got disabled on a patrol. Have endurance, have finesse, get rid of fat and whatever you call that inefficient "muscle" of yours.
Absolutely agree, battle. I am a warrior and a member of a team
Increasing your bench will increase how many pushups you can do to an extent, but otherwise high rep pushups is centered around endurance rather than strength. Heavy benching on the otherhand is strength and not endurance (unless you train with light weights).
>I am a warrior and a member of a team
sure you are goy, now get out there and kill achmed's children! OOH RAH
May I interested you in some discounted crayons in bulk?
hey man ahab's been looking for you
endurance for pushups is so easy to train by doing more pushups. my basic course averaged 40 or so and almost nobody scored under 82 i.e 100p in a few months
Laying on your back while you lift essentially cucks all of your muscles out of gains apart from the few that are directly used, benching is verifiably the least natural and most dangerous major compound lift and there are way better substitutes.
Muscular adaptations for strength and endurance are different. Getting your bench up will let you do more push-ups up to a point (since you're making a push-up a lower percentage of your 1RM) but that effect scales down relatively quickly once your bench is halfway decent.
> bro-physics
Post your body. You sound extremely dyel.
Not him, but would you like to see my cock?
yeah bench is retarded. when do you ever need to press a weight like that in nature? fucking never. pecs should be trained for explosive punching power only. big titty pecs are for homos
same user from above, I agree on the pec statement, but anyway, would (You) like to see my cock maybe?
idk about you, but i never got beyond 16%bf while lifting, i got my bench to 225lbs for 4 reps and i maxed out with 63 pushups in a row
also i can do 7 one arm pushups, i like warming up with them so the roid heads on my gym gets really mad saying shit like "yeah, weighting as much as you weight it must be lot easier"
sure why not.
Fucking hell I can't do 10 pushups without shoulder/upper arm pain. I pinched my rotator cuff nerves months ago and it's been fine for bench and everything else.
When will this shit stay go.
>jeff.png
Went from doing 10 to 20 in a set in about 10 days, what should my max be before I consider enlisting?
It depends on how much time you have. If you have the time then I would really just try to get the max amount of pushups needed so your life can be a whole lot easier.
Because those exercises require two different kinds of energy metabolism. Squatting heavy won't make you run longer either.
>metabolism
I don't think you know what that word means. But other than that, the squatting/running analogy is a good point.
Pushups are 60% homie.
symptom of HIV bro
