"Happiness" isn't a constant. If I went on a drug binge and kept myself shrekd the fuck out on drugs until the day I died, I'd probably be "happy" for the majority of the time.

However, that notion of "happiness" pales in comparison to the happiness achieved when setting hard challenges for yourself and succeeding. During that journey, there were many points where you felt awful and were "unhappy". However should you reach the finish line, the happiness gained is a permanent one. It's like leveling in an RPG and gaining permanent stat bonuses vs chugging a potion for a temporary +happiness.

what do you mean? that the amount of endorphin released in the other (natural) scenario is eventually higher than sum total of endorphin released in scenario A, or that endorphin receptors become more sensitive if deprived of extreme rushes of endorphin, thus making it more enjoyable when it finally gets released?
