Not that user, and this is definitely a stretch, but different people have learned different methods of solving equations and an inability to solve an equation can be a result of not knowing the proper method rather than strictly a result of lacking intelligence. Of course, mathematically intelligent people can usually intuitively invent methods for solving simple equations, so intelligence does correlate with an ability to solve math problems in an IQ test, but only to a point. Same thing with detecting patterns for those shape questions- some people are habituated to detecting certain patterns over others because similar ones have recurred in their past experiences, and they're biased towards picking up on them. People who are good at detecting patterns in general can usually detect new ones on the spot, but tests are unintentionally biased towards people who have familiarity with the kinds of patterns presented. And with the language part, well, someone who reads often is way more likely to perform well on it, again because of exposure and not necessarily intelligence.

I don't disagree that IQ tests measure intelligence somewhat accurately. They do seem to be designed so that someone needs a minimum of foreknowledge to perform well, but that doesn't mean that foreknowledge doesn't affect the results, and although someone who is knowledgeable probably is intelligent, it's not foolproof. Hell even test anxiety and other emotional responses can greatly affect results.

We'll have to agree to psuedo-disagree. People who have memorized simple multiplication tables are at an advantage against people who haven't and have to multiply in their head. Either could be just as efficient at learning as the other, but simply hasn't learned whatever it was that was required due to circumstance, which can vary extremely widely and to which reactions can vary from individual to individual.

And then there are people who think that they "aren't good at math", and so seek an authority figure when presented with a challenge (one which isn't there during an IQ test), and they fail entirely to access their own unique ability to recognize patterns (an ability which potentially may have been strong enough given proper conditioning). Shit is complicated as hell but IQ tests are extremely legit when it comes to determining who can make the most sense out of a new situations- however I think a lot more of it is programmed, and not innate, than one would believe.
