Just because a calorie is a useless unit of measurement (a synopsis I agree with) doesn't mean your body won't store excess energy as fat.

That's highly individual. I find it very hard to lose weight with a carbohydrate rich diet, so I do a zero carb diet, and it works well for me, I can stay lean year-round and I'm not hungry.

But I also know people who would function terribly on what I do, and easily lose weight on HC/LF.

Body recomposition is not the same as starvation. Getting an insufficient amount of nutrients leads to starvation; it's common to lose fat after starting to just eat healthy
