How did user decide on a college major?
How did user decide on a college major?
Me sit on coputah whole day. Me have no friends. Me program stuff.
>Soft eng
>only good at science and math growing up
>that narrows it down
>like vidya
>maybe I'll make vidya
>become depressed and fail out
>ok how about just a random thing like engineering
>become depressed and fail out
>how about nothing
>yeah nothing is good.
I have no interests whatsoever besides aikido. I literally picked a random course (design and manufacture)
Pick something to make money, don't "follow your passion" unless you are in a family which sustains intergenerational wealth.
Happiness over money anyday
this
owiginallllly
When you have a severe sudden medical condition which cannot be treated unless you have insurance, or you have a shit job and poor insurance coverage, tell me how that happiness is working out when you cannot get treatment and you spend every waking hour of your day in constant agony. Money does not buy happiness, but poverty certainly can buy you misery.
I had already decided what my major was going to be during HS based on interests, grades and career outlook.
>Wanted to go to med school
>ugh I don't want to do biology though
>lucid dreaming is an area of interest
>let me understand the brain to maybe understand that more
>neuroscience seems more fitting than psychology for the medical school aspect
>choose neuroscience
And that's how I did it
not him but
>sad things that only apply to americucks
>not living off of free medical coverage
>not having a government-run vehicle insurance company cover the cost of getting you a new car when you wreck it
>not having all of your non-medicals covered by your workplace's benefits anyway
lmfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaao
I would die happy
>all these anons naturally good at math and shit
>I'm just sitting here with my 100s in English
>don't really know what to do with it other than to go into some social science
boom and now I'm still undecided a year in
>college
I thought cars were cool, so I worked on my car, now I work on cars
Based on a fucking pipe dream and I'm in junior year and have no fucking idea what my job will be in 2 years
Not saying what because I'm too fucking embarassed
>implying I actually took a decision
Accounting = money, so I went there, then realized it's boring as fuck so I got into IT because I "liked" computers, then realized it's too fucking technical and shit so now I'm debating about going into marketing and changing my major for the third time in 3 years. Fuck this shit man. Why didn't my stupid boomer parents let me drop out and let me figure shit out.?
I majored in Japanese language because all I really wanted to do was teach karate.
I don't know if I'm even a robot, because I feel like I'm living the dream. I teach a kid's karate class in the afternoon and an adult's karate class twice in the evening. I also teach Japanese in a Catholic private school (of which I'm an alumnus)
Still,
>no gf
Sucks
cucked and bluepilled
based and redpilled
i thought of three things I am interested in and picked the one i like second
Dropped out of engineering and did physics because I preferred the math.
Wow i was excpecting to be called bluepilled for thinking happiness over money but i guess not
Thanks fren
This is originallly correct
Say it fren. You are amongst peers. Also this is an anonymous website.
I wanted to help children who were unprivileged, and living in poverty.
what major lets you do that?
I got a wage cuck job until I had something in mind
>tfw suggest this to parents but they expect you to do both simultaneously
>they complain about how you're still an undecided major and how you're 'wasting money' even though it's not your choice
>basically don't even have the time to stress over it and yet it all piles on
based dubs and based bro
>played historical vidya a lot
>civ, aoe, assasins creed
>makes me like history
>history major
Easy as that
>joined af
>got pretty good at maint
>got a medal
>decided I like doing maint and want to go further
>got out
working on engineering, not far enough to specialize yet but probably gonna go electrical
desu I only like playing vidya but if I had to work in front of a comp all day id hate it. which scares me because thats what ppl say my future is
if I went purely off interests I would probably be some kinda history major focused on ancient greece or philosophy but I read plenty on my own, I can take those as electives and maths not hard anyways
Just tried simulating a bunch of stuff in my school years. Hotel business, arts, cooking, science, programming, arts, history, arts, teaching, arts.
In the end, something made me give up on all of those, but somehow art just kept coming back to me, until i couldn't handle anymore and decided that i'll give my life to pursue it.
How long did you try accounting? I personally think it's easy and in demand.
>shit tier martial art
>shit tier major
What's your JLPT user? N1?
I'm not that good at it. I mostly give kids nunchucks and pads.
>teaches Japanese at a school
>claims to not be good
How?
That's not me lol.
I did pretty well on JLPT but you gotta remember no one is fluent JUST BECAUSE they do the JLPT. You have to pretty much have one and a half years of constant Japanese exposure to be able to call yourself "fluent".
the physics kids got emails at like midnight for the lab instructions,. the labs were due (full write up) by 9 am class that day. Twas some bullshit. Thus i looked around and tada the chemists get locked out of lab at 5pm not allowing for all night lab stuff. I switched to chemistry at this point. I'm now studying for my PhD
When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist. I grew up and was convinced dino shit was faggy and decided to go to school for Zoology. Realized I'm lying to myself so I went back to paleontology.
I was pre-med so I could pick any bullshit major I wanted. It was either go Bio/Chem like everyone else or do something unique and if you know anything about med. school applications, being unique is everything. Majored in math because it would look really good on my application, and I figured they'd be more lenient on my GPA since math is perceived is a "hard" major. Only reason, I don't give a shit about math. I got accepted into all the schools I applied to. My bio major friend had a better GPA and comparable ECs and didn't do nearly as well so my major carried me.
What type of math classes do you need to take in I.T? I'm thinking about doing IT or accounting.
I went into computer engineering because I was already decent with computers and I knew I was smart enough to do it.
College was stressful at times but I got out with a decent GPA and have a pretty laid-back job now. It all worked out as far as I'm concerned, did take a bit of luck though on the job search.
me like rocket ship
bam rocket ship ez
i wish i had the balls to do what u did
i loved dinosaurs so much but once i told my parents they said i have to be doctah and that killed my dream of being a paleontologist shit is sad
>i wanna do science and shiet
>it seems that i wasn't accepted in the physics department... alright, chemistry it is.
and that was it.
I like history so yeah....
I tried doing CS but programming is so fucking boring. You have to be a literal autist to enjoy it and fuck forcing yourself to learn it just so you can be a codemonkey and write lines of code every fucking day in front of computer.
Sounds just so fucking miserable and soul crushing
I figure with my degree I at least can get into teaching which sounds comfy enough
>bad at math
>"son you need to go to college if you don't you'll be a burger flipper for the rest of your life" t. boomer dad
>always been kinda interested in politics
>major in poli sci
>gonna graduate soon and regret this degree
all you gotta do is think about activities you like and qualities you want in a job, then just go for whatever degree that job requires
I like making shit, working with my hands, doing a bit of thinking and math, and having flexible schedules so I became a civil engineer
what jobs does a CS degree open up?
I either want to be like an IT admin or mess about with hardware and make shit so should I go for CS?
I really like history but data science seems interesting. however now that i think about it whatever i graduate with i'll end up wage slaving and living frugally. so does it really matter in the end?
Unless you network, be prepared to spend a lof of time doing shitty pajeet tier codemonkey work
If you're good at it, a lot. If you're not, you'll still have a decent amount of options to earn a decent living, just at a less prestigious job.
>Bioengineering
I liked Biology, but I didn't want to be a glorified dishwasher. Now I don't even do biology but regulatory compliance.
What this guy said is pretty damn accurate. Not enough people go to college to actually get the job they want. They go to college just because that is what they're supposed to do. I fell into that trap and my mental health is paying the price. I'd rather kill myself than go back to class.
>too dumb for college
>too uncoordinated to do a trade
guess it's box stacking for me
I joined the military because I'm retarded, but if I end up getting kicked out for depression I plan on going to college and majoring in 3d animation and taking Korean, Chinese, or Japanese classes on the side. I gave up on life anyway so I'm not losing much if I major in something I'm interested in with no job prospects.
