Why is it so fucking hard finding a decent gym/club nowadays? It's either McDojo #23 that doesn't participate in tournaments, UFC Gym (aka McDojo with the scam factor turned to 11), or some retarded kickboxing cardio workout place marketed towards soccer moms. All the good stuff is local city-government funded BJJ or boxing clubs but the ratio of those gems with the turds is ridiculous.

Depends where you are senpai

In big cities you're spoiled for choice but there's often more shitty ones then

In the middle of nowhere you take what you can get

All good boxing gyms are in the hood

t. boxer

fought full thai rules muay thai once, k-one kickboxing once and having a boxing fight in a month

fuck me dead

>>some retarded kickboxing cardio workout place marketed towards soccer moms.
Topkek, this so much.

I have clicking jaw (TMJ). Can catching one on the chin damage it even more, or could it theoretically get better?

Balance is key, leaping at someone won’t work if they have a weapon without copping some serious damage. It’s also natural for humans to pick up whatever is near them and use it as a weapon, you can literally grab anything and use it. The funny thing too is no one expects it

Who you lads got for UFC 229?

Attached: Khabib stare.jpg (2048x2048, 810K)

He actually has a point. In a street fight, biting the fuck out of someone will probably end the fight in seconds.

not if it's a real fight where they're really trying to hurt you

No, it will only make them really fucking angry

Who is the best middle wight in the world and why is it gayhard?
i have to go for connor.
Who was the last top 5 guy khabib fought.

Just learn how to box.

This nigga knows

McGregor is going to ice him in the first round. Khabib will go for a take down and McGregor will use the touch of death. Either that or Khabib drops his guard to dodge, pops his chin up like he always does, and Conor turns the lights out.

Can confirm, train MMA in an industrial part of my town

>government funded

Don't even bother

Does anyone have a guide for stretching for bjj?

Why? Some forms of funding are just renting the place at a good rate.

He KO’d one guy within the first minute. Everyone else has managed to last longer and get their hands on him a bit. He’s a great boxer but anyone who’s certain that he’s going to get a quick knock out is a retard. He CAN, but it’s not a 50/50 between whether he can get a quick KO or he gets taken down. One time he got a one punch KO, every other time took considerably longer, and usually against manlets. He hit Nate Diaz plenty of times and nothing came of it, and Nate’s been KO’d before.

do japanese jiu jitsu if you're a beginner
nogi bjj is for people who actually know what they're doing

thats retarded
any sort of cheap shot in a real fight is just gonna make your opponent angry

naw it can only get worse and serious sparring puts a ton of pressure on your jaw/neck be it striking or wrestling or both

any idiot can box. mike tyson was a shit fighter he just slugged people because he was strong af.
grappling, kicking, entanglements, chokes, and ground submission actually take technique and effort and aren't just a strength match

Honestly if you watched his career, it seems like how long the fights last get shorter and shorter. Eddie Alveres lasted longer than a minute because he can recover fast, also Nate Diaz is an actual neanderthal who is nearly impossible to knock out

I don't have a guide, but you should put one leg out strait and lift the other one strait up while laying on your back. use cables to pull it in closer to your body
yoga is pretty good stretching for jiu jitsu, do some sun salutations with your pushups and work on a full lotus (opening the gate) to enhance your mount lockup.
warrior pose, flower, and airplane can help you enhance your balance and your standing throws.

Mike Tyson was trained by Cus D'Amato and was a fantastic boxer in his prime. You couldn't make it more obvious that you know sweet fuck all about boxing,

Lads, is kyokushin a meme?

Looking at doing something new with the bit of time I've got spare and was thinking return to combat sport or get back into rugby.

Post your set up or GTFO.

I'm tired of gym twink faggots who just lift in front of a mirror so that other men can look at them.

Jow Forums should be a manly board for fighters, not some amateur gay porn actor gathering board.

Also, I didn't mean to quote you I just wanted the quick reply thingy.

Anyway, since I did quote you, go for Shotokan. Kyokushin is a meme. You just have to look extra hard for a dojo that does have full contact sparring.

I see. I've never tried karate before but it always seemed to be shotokan who had the most McDojo's in my experience.

Are there some general points in the differences between Shotokan, Kyokushin and GoJu-Ryu? Or is that something you couldn't really sum up in a sentence?

>Shotokan
It's the full package, it's a great fight usually used as striking base for other fighting styles. It's simple but efficient, no bullshit techniques, basically just straight punches and kicks to the face, but applying it is hard and needs mastering. Has the most number of McDojos because of this. Run away from places who only train Kata (usually McDojos).

>Kyokushin
It's the sports package. It's a horrible fight but the training is useful if you do fight something proper for many reasons. Usually no punches to the face, fights consists of two guys crazily hitting each other in the chest like literal madman. Easy to master, so McDojos and Dojos are very similar in quality. I do not recommend.

>GoJu-Ryu
No. Just no.

Biting a person who knows what they’re doing is hard

The thing that all these non-fighters who act as if they invented fighting dirty miss is that you don't want to be the one escalating the situation. First off, if you're fighting someone who actually does know how to fight then they'll be better at fighting dirty than someone who doesn't. Second, if you go to bite, hit the nuts, eyes, or throat, guess what your opponent will do? You've now gone from a little scrap with a couple of punches to two guys outright trying to maim eachother. Why would you want to put that card on the table unless you absolutely have to?

Goju-ryu is probably the best bet if they do full contact sparring.
It is similar to Kyokushin as it is actually where it originally came from but with face punches and better blocking.
Shotokan can be good but it needs to be drilled hard, and if there are not a lot of sweeps in sparring it is likely bullshit.
Kyokushin can be really good but as it does full contact aside from no face punches which isn't great but you learn effective kicking and how to harden your body.

You're obviously not well versed in MMA.
Every expert knows it's all in the shorts and haircut McGregor comes out with.
Fade side swipe + beard + white/green shorts = first round KO.

>have the perfect build for martial arts, in particularly taekwondo
>have such massive leg muscles from years of cardio I could probably snap someone's vertebral column with a good side kick
>years of cardio also made my legs stiff as fuck
>have been stretching for months and still can't touch my toes
>can barely do head level kicks
It's like a curse. Anyone have a stretching routine that can fastrack this shit? I want to at least be able to touch my fucking toes. I've got sedentary basedboi friends who can do the splits and touch their toes for fuck's sake.

Attached: maxresdefault (11).jpg (1280x720, 118K)

Just do RDLs. You'll touch your toes in no time.

What exactly will they do for me? The main two things giving me trouble is my hamstrings and really tight medial thigh muscles(?).

Every rep is a weighted hamstring stretch. It will force you to become flexible.

Is grappling/wrestling better suited to endomorphs?

McNugget because he frames well against opponents who close the distance, posts his right arm, fires left where his right just was. Also kebab does not know how to cut off the cage, which is a lot harder to do in an octagon than a ring.

You spit bullshit.
Competition in Shotokan is mostly non contact, while Kyokushin is full contact.
It 100 times easier to find a quality kyokushinky dojo than a shotokan one.
>Go-ju-ryu

Attached: 1389097598530.gif (200x150, 1.12M)

Not even close. If one bites, he may get eye gouged to be coerced to let go. And he will.
yoga for bjj. or yoga with adee...
>I could probably snap someone's vertebral column with a good side kick
Get kick checked by little thai and end up like silva vs Weidmann 2
Just strech brah... pancake, straight legged forward bent, butterfly strech, front split, firelog and you good.

Ive been wanting to do some martial arts for awhile, the only thing holding me back is one fungus toe. In the meantime I’ve been lifting, what should I focus on while I try to get rid of this shit.

Is that Anthony Kiedis? (lead singer of RHCP)

You fucking /heem/ refugees. You know who you fuckers are. Back to /sp/

Yeah, he goes to a ton of UFC events

Nah, it's Bill the Butcher

Boxing or Muay Thai? Can't choose both so I'll have to stick to one

...

Have a trial lesson of each, you'll decide then what you like.
my pick would go to mt, but it's up to you.
retard number one
.retard number tow
Fire log pose for bjj'ers in need of flexibility.

Lifting and add a bit of cardio till the funk is gone.

You are clearly a retard who has never even been inside a shotokan dojo, so let me give you an advice so you don't embarrass yourself next time.

It's not shotokan if
>it is no full contact
>both fighters fighting sideways jumping like gazelles
>they are wearing big bozo gloves

What Shotokan sometimes has is "light contact", which is the points based version of the fighting, which is still full contact. Here are some actual examples of Shotokan:

>youtube.com/watch?v=8UGA4eebthM
>youtube.com/watch?v=wa7UIVSghVk

If it doesn't look like one of the videos, it's not Shotokan Karate.

Attached: 1521130489849.jpg (335x315, 15K)

>That whole post, those cringy videos, those excuses...
My sides are on geostationnary orbit.
If it is your definition of contact sport, where "fighter" stop before contact happens.
Shotokan is a joke, you just proved it yourself.
I drank the koolaid from 16 to 19 so I know how shitty it is. Now you try to go sparring with some mt or kb guys doing it roughly as long as you do ...
>In b4 shotokan is too deadly because it doesn't use gloves.

Attached: 1433530691693.gif (427x239, 1.99M)

I honestly have no idea, but there are two scenarios that are totally possible, either of which would be fucking insane
1. McGregor bullies Khabib with his striking and/or gets a ko, making him the greatest of all time (in people's eyes)
2. Khabib rapes McGregor and drags him across the mat while pounding him, the most embarrassing loss of all time
There are many other scenarios that could happen, but the fact that these are both possible is really fucking cool

I love BJJ/grappling but its pretty hard to get good at
Maybe i will someday also go train kickbox

>JJJ

If they did live rolling maybe

Otherwise it's hot garbage with compliant drills

>choose a points sparring style over full contact style

What's going on big guy

Are you fucking retarded? Shotokan is no-contact/light contact with a focus on kata and drills against compliant partners. You will not learn to fight with Shotokan.

Whatever its faults, Kyokushin trains with aliveness which puts it well above Shotokan.

He really doesn't hit that hard compared to someone like GGG or Canelo. Hell, Amir Khan could probably put McGregor to sleep.

To be fair, not everyone is healthy enough for full contact. I just wish that they stopped peddling bullshit that they were teaching people to fight.

Is it true that after 1-2 years of BJJ you may as well go and do something else if you want to become a better overall fighter? I’ve heard after that point unless if you wanna compete or just continue for fun it’s not really worth it

Why would you do martial arts besides for fun?

You still have trouble telling the difference between your head and your ass during critical moments at that point. At least 3-4 years to get decent.

Sure, you'll clown most noobs after 1-2 years, but you actually know jack shit at that point and even your basics will still be somewhat sloppy.

>ell, Amir Khan could probably put McGregor to sleep.
In a boxing bout? 100% sure.
In a MMA fight? not happening even one armed.

Got pocket change on:
- conor ko/tko/dq in r2
- khabib ko/etc. in r4
- khabib ko/etc. in r5
But really it's a total pickem. Could be a blowout either way.
Got training tonight. Didn't warm my hips up at all last time so my kicks were even shitter than usual - gonna make sure and do so tonight. Also got a couple blisters on my pinkie from rock climbing last night, dunno whether to put plasters over them since they'll probably come off inside the glove lol.
Have a video of GGG doing a strength and conditioning workout.
youtube.com/watch?v=jbHdKlq16KI

Just went to my second ever bjj tournament, and got my ass kicked in both my fights. Hold me brehs, this shit is way harder than rolling in class. The intensity is completely different, and I can't seem to "turn it on", like my coach says I have to if I want to win. I never competed in any sports before, could that be why I'm at such a disadvantage? Other guys in my area seem to come from some sort of athletic background, be it other martial arts, rugby or whatnot.

I guess I just need to go to comps and get my ass kicked again and again until it "clicks", if that's what it takes.

Attached: 1514421155647.jpg (728x546, 165K)

godspeed user, you will /makeit

How much weight training do you guys do? I used to lift and I've retained quite a bit of strength and muscle, but I feel like the cardio is beginning to atrophy me after a year or so of Muay Thai. I've just been doing calisthenics for maintenance, and certainly eating enough, but I feel I need to do more.

From a former brown belt Wado-ryu karatefag, the problem is
> Japanese Shotokan =/= Ordinary Shotokan
You need to look for gyms that follows JKF, not WKF. I literally abandoned karate after seing WKF destroying contact and "non-traditional" strikes while allowing pic related (cool kick, but 0 effectiveness). Everyday it's more about a tag game than a fight.

probably had the same experience I had: the karate WKF rules, which is a joke compared to other martial arts. JKF is better but still, the fact that full force is not allowed dramatically changes the dynamic of a fight, and the workout consequently.

Competition, which one?
It was your first. You were not used to the pressure. You didn't breath properly, were all tense and had holes in your game.
Remedy:
Bjj 3 to 4 times a week,
Wrestling or Judo once or twice a week
Run twice a week. use proper running technique build up 30 minutes run, then hill sprints. do burpees, planks, pull-up and deadlifts.
Yoga on the morning. target your hips and spine especially
Strech after training, always
Keep a bjj journal.
Sleep 7 to 8 hours a night.
Alcohol only once a week, before rest day with yoga only.
gif related is godly for grappling sport. Start with partial one, just benging a little bit, then go further.

how do i find a cheap non-shit boxing gym that will actually teach me properly? what do i look for?
