Are most personal trainers morons? I have a cousin who is a PT and always posts the worst advice on lifting and eating. She posted a video of her clients almost snapping off their necks doing high squats that looked like a good morning. She told me once that her deadlift isn't very good, so I gave her some tips on it. She posted a video of her hitting a very unimpressive deadlift (185x3) like it was some amazing accomplishment. She was using nothing but her back and no leg drive at all. From what I've seen PTs give very shit advice and act like they know everything.

They seem to all be morons. I've seen so many people duped into paying for meme exercises it isn't funny.

All meme excercises at my gym too. Frustrating to see guys wasting their time and money on nonsense.

I think they know a good bit but slowly realize they have to do meme shit to keep the fat divorcés motivated and "feeling the burn!"
Not a very good business model to give someone a routine up front because then what do they even need you for after that

Look at their body, is it something you want? Then yes because rhey have the results you want. Or look at their clients, do any of them have a body type you want? If yes, then the trainer can show you how to get it, otherwise you'll waste your money.

Fat divorcee's don't want to change.
They want their hand held, to feel like they are doing something, and some company.
PRs also dick down the loser cunts on the reg after they get them hot.
It's basically...christening their new perfect body.
An ego boost and letting them know that they're hot and can get hot guys now.

You guys are on the right track. Remember that they are also salesmen. They don't get and keep clients by telling the truth or even getting results. They do best by mixing a little exercise in with a lot of Tumblr memes about genetics.

>Be me, squatting
>Gym is empty
>Warming up
>Put up 295 x3 for final warmup
>Suddenly some bitch starts rapidly walking towards me
>"Hi, nice to meet you"
>Shakes my hand
>"My name is dumb cunt and im a personal trainer"
>"Youre gonna seriously hurt yourself if you keep doing that"
>Ask her why does she think that
>"Well the bar is very low on your upper back and your back angle is too horizontal, youre also going too low"
>"I can help you fix your form tho, as I told you, im a pt"
>Mfw
>I politely decline
>"Are you sure?, I dont want to be rude bt you dont look like you know what youre doing"
>Ask her if she has ever coached someone to squat anything near what im warming up with
>"Ive never actually seen anyone lift so much weight, lifting too much is very bad for you"
>Told her it aint, that I need to finish my workout.
>put on my earphones and just ignored her

Bitch still gives me the evil eye to this day.
All her clients look and lift like shit.

post squat form

my PT cousin also had never heard of a low bar squat
top fucking kek
It's a low bar squat, used in powerlifting

Yes. And around here they think they're worth $80/hr+. Lmfao.

Cont.'d
>so after I told that bitch off and did my warm up I loaded up 6 plates
>shit you not I blasted out 3 sets of 10 atg
>there was an audible tearing sound from my lower back and it "crunches" when I bend down to the right but that's show business baby

Most PTs you talk to are morons.

Were they smarter they'd be doing exercise research.

Were they actually decent (or at least had a good personality) they'd be training rich people/actors.

Most PTs are just people that liked sports and working out but lack the talent to be good at sports, are not attractive enough to model and not smart enough to do anything else.

I've had this kind of thing before

>PT in the gym always remarks on shoes I wear (converse for leg days)
>Always tells clients to stop the squat before they hit parallel
>Was squatting one day in the rack next to him and he said really loudly to his client "see how he is going too deep? That's what I want you to avoid"
>Dude he's training halfheartedly agrees
>End up talking to the dude later, show him videos of world class lifters hitting clean depth
>Dude just shakes his head and sighs, tells me he knows but the PT wont change his mind

personal trainers.
>get their head filled with useless shit at some "institute of fitness"
>holier than thou attitude because of a piece of paper

What is it with pts and their hatred of squats? I was doing lmao2pl8 and got hassled by one for going below parallel.

I dont tape my sets bro
First thing she said made me immediately dismiss everything else
Kill yourself faggot.

This type of shit should be illegal. Hes gonna cause long term knee damage to his clients.
It should be considered malpractice and reckless endangerment.

>can only get a job showing people how to exercise

Gee idk man

The majority are useless. They do the basic course and never continue their research after that period and that information is outdated and mostly irrelevant to anyone with actual fitness goals.

That's why the genuinely good personal trainers end up owning their own gyms and fitness studios. The rate you can charge with a wide range of knowledge and especially clear understanding of how a person can reach the goals they want is very high, especially in todays fitness and image obsessed culture.

Sounds like my cousin 100%

>do calisthenics almost exclusively
>go to gym maybe a few times in a month, $1 day pass here
>outlift PTs
>they have some kind of problem with how I use the lat pulldown machine and try to get me to row it

You only need to know the basics.
Why?
Because the basics work and in spite of what everyone here thinks, people don't understand the basics or how things work when it comes to just simple health and activity exercise.

Fitness wise yes, but they make a shitloads of cash, so no.

Most PT's are thick as pig shit, it is the easy option apprenticeship after leaving school in the UK.
We get them as cheap cleaners and go-fors for a couple of years, whilst they do their level 2's (retard level). Level 3 is a little less retarded, but a thicky can still pass easily.
What makes a good PT is passion and the study they put in outside the official learning, do they actually lift, are they natural (roiders don't make good PT's).
Some of the best PT's I have worked with did it part time as a hobby, had a chartered accountant who did 10hours a week PT, not for the money, but because she enjoyed it.

t. Own 2 gyms in UK with 2000 members a piece.

They probably hate squats because 1) they dont understand the movement
2) its hard as hell to coach and most people despise performing them

The most successful gym in America is also the place where no one works out. Keep that in mind.

funnily I had a strange but wholesome moment yesterday

>doing barbell rows
>pro bodybuilder looking type walks in cradling what looks like his pre 3-month old son
>fuck I dont want to scare the baby better not slam the weights
>finish controlled set of 8 reps with 100 kg
> "Youve got perfect form bro"
>"I was just trying not to scare the baby"
>we both laugh it off
>mfw

I'm a full time PT, ask me anything.
most PT's i've met are idiots but most of them also don't last long/don't mnage to make a career out of it so meh
After I lifted on my own for about 3 months, I decided to see a PT to get some pointers. I went once a week for 6 weeks. I told him this was a short-term thing and that I already had a workout plan (which I showed him and he agreed was decent). I had specific goals for the PT time: "I want help with compound lifts (e.g. deadlift, OHP, bench) and, second, any pointers or suggestions you may have for me to lose more bodyfat." He was really good and helpful and gave me a lot of information, especially concerning my deadlift form. As for his body, he was a bit small (he liked to rock climb, too), but he was built well and did lift on a regular basis.

So no, not all of them are morons.

PT at my gym showed me how my legs should follow my foot during squats but then he told me the bar is too low and should be on my traps. I told him I'm doing low bar and he seemed to not know what I was talking about (I don't even put the bar under the spina scapulae because it's torture) so now every time I squat I'm embarrassed when he's around.

"Oh, I see you're on the Angular Supine Rowing Machine again. That's good for your Gluteus Serratus Posterior and your Krebs' Cycle. But you're pulling too heavy. Put it at 5 pounds and do 10 sets of 37 reps."

The entire business model of a PT is dependent on you coming back to them, so if they teach you proper form and nutrition (which is pretty easy to do) then you really have no need for them

What training do you have? How did you get your first job after completing your training?

A good PT should want his clients to get to a point where they can progress on their own. There are plenty of people; cycle through them. Get a reputation for "he helped me for a year, I lost 543 pounds and now bench 5x my bodyweight" and sign up the next 10 fatties to convert them to fit people.

they're mostly retards who couldn't get a degree in exercise science or something so they did a month long course

You still around? What training do you have?

>see someone squatting almost lmao3pl8
>tell them they don’t know what they’re doing

I seriously fucking doubt this has ever happened.

The sheer amount of cope in this post. This stacey is right and you will find out 10 years from now when you can't walk.

Most clients don’t want to accept that the boring exercises work.
They also know that they’ll probably quit after a few weeks anyway, so it won’t do too much damage.
