Hey guys. I'm going to go to the doctors this week in hope for some antidepressants. Do you guys have any experience with them? Never tried any so I don't know what to expect.
Mental health
Mods will ban this. no mental health threads allowed here
I highly reccomend you get generic of whatever you end up deciding on. Dirt cheap even withour health insurance.
Think i need to do the same been getting by with working out hard for years but it's not cutting it anymore
Antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers usually take a few weeks to kick in, so don't be discouraged if you don't immediately feel different. Also pyschotherapy can be really helpful in addition to or even in place of meds. Depends on exactly how your depression is manifesting. But if you haven't gone to a psychologist or psychiatrist specifically, do. Medical doctors are shit at handling mental illness; the only thing they're good for is writing prescription, and a psychiatrist can do that anyway.
Antidepressents will ruin you and make sure that you will have an impossible time of ever being happy or even feeling anything correctly again. Also they're addictive.
Good luck.

What the fuck
Two of the most common side effects are feeling tired and a loss of sex drive so be prepared for that. It's also generally ill advised to drink (at least a lot) while taking antidepressants. They take about a month to kick in so take them for at least a little longer than that before deciding if they work for you or not UNLESS you start getting strong suicidal or homicidal thoughts in which case STOP TAKING THEM IMMEDIATELY and consult your doctor, who will go over all this with you again.
Either way best of luck and remember that antidepressants aren't an instant cure and won't solve everything on their own, they may help but you still need to develop coping mechanisms and positive behaviors if you want to get out of what you're going through
And never forget, we're all going to make it
Tried all of that. This is a last resort (as opposed to the other last resort). Thank you user.
psych here
if you haven't tried at least 6 months of therapy with a licensed psychologist then you have no business putting that crap in your body
Loss of sex drive as in trouble getting it up or not wanting to get it up?
do you just have a shit life or actually depressed???
have you tried anything else beside marketed pharmaceuticals?
this will cure my depression riiiight
just stack with more drugs
VIAGRA
don't forget your multivitamin either
It's like the second one leading to the first one if that makes sense?
At least that's the experience my friends had, personally I was horny as fuck while I was on them and my fwb (who was also on them) fucked all the time
My current therapist has been great, but we have ended up working on some relationships that were fucking with me and indirectly helped my anxiety/OCD/depression/self-esteem everything a bit. Plus talking about those things when it comes up, especially getting over worry/anxiety thought loops which were really fucking with me.
Anyway, he said something that made sense. That there are levels of problems and a lot of the time people simply have "poor hygiene", rather than irreparably shifted neurochemistry baselines, when it comes to mental health. Bad hygiene being that your brain is so train-able and habitual, and if you get stuck in certain patterns of thinking that's just how you end up remaining unless you change something. And changing it can just be retraining or implementing strategies to have better thought/brain/habit hygiene. This also flows over into things outside your direct thoughts; better routines, not staring at a screen all day, socialising, doing things you enjoy, being assertive, eating/exercising better, etc.
He was willing to prescribe some SSRIs but do whatever I wanted, so I wanted to try other things first. Just a suggestion; try some therapy with a good therapist (at least 6 months/10 sessions) or find out this stuff yourself I'm sure there are resources (it's along the lines of CBT I guess) as your first point of call. Seconds, there are products like SAM-e, 5-HTP and GABA mimicking compounds, ashwaghanda, etc. that can be as effective for some people as drugs without so much side effects and especially without lasting impacts such as 5-HTP having a similar effect to SSRIs but serotonin baseline and receptor sensitivity recovers properly with 5-HTP whereas you can have problems after SSRIs.I think SAM-e is recommended for depression. Lastly, try the (((prescriptions))).
I've been through depression and issues on and off for over a decade. Wish I'd gotten help sooner. Good on you for doing something about it, best of luck.
Awesome shilling big pharma bro.
don't tell then you're suicidal even if you arent
or just quit being a fucking bitch and figure your shit out without drugs you fucking loser
health was removed from Jow Forums years ago m8, back when there were DNP generals
Therapist 3 months in going nowhere mate. Trying my best.
Therapists vary a lot. If you can't tell them literally anything no matter how embarrassing or depraved, don't get on well in general, can't talk freely, and they don't push you in the right ways then try another. Especially the pushing you, making you face uncomfortable truths and do uncomfortable things.
