It's pretty nice. Not the biggest fan of the location, being in North Philly there's not much to do other than chill in apartments/dorms, drink/smoke, and lift, unless you go into center city.
We have 2 gyms (3 actually but one is pussy shit that mostly only girls go to).
The one (STAR) is our newest one, was built like a year ago. Really nice place, tons of equipment and it's all new from when it was built, almost has a commercial gym vibe with how nice and clean everything feels. Only problem is it can get pretty crowded.
The other one (IBC) is the old gym, has basically everything you need but it's just overall less polished and is definitely smaller, but doesn't get as crowded. I used to go to the STAR but it's been really crowded recently so I started going to IBC, plus IBC has a weightlifting belts there for use which is cool.

I know a couple dudes that went there. Is it true your mascot is plaid?

Science, Maths/Physics stream. It's full of D4 lads, probably brings up the points a bit. It's a very flexible course and the lecturers are all great so far.

UCD just appealed to me, very happy with my choice so far.

Been here for two years and I’ve never felt unsafe. Just be aware of your surroundings and don’t treat it like you’re in the suburbs. If you’re directly on campus, the odds of anything happening is next to none. Otherwise, just don’t go north of Susquehanna at night.

Yeah I'm a Philly native and I went there for 5 years. Always felt safe even when heading home alone on the subway at 2am. No different from the rest of the city. I miss the IBC that place was what got me into lifting.

Outside having to compete with foreigners who dedicate their lives to getting A's, is mellon's program really as tough as everyone says? Was thinking about applying to do a masters there some day.
I did comp sci at a uni with a way smaller reputation and wasn't impressed by any of the supposed "great" comp sci schools I ran into at competitions or hackathons. Also a dope gig after graduation and beat out people from some of the better schools. Never ran into any of the mellon guys though.

Some of the masters programs seem to be significantly easier than the SCS undergraduate program. The core undergrad program is extremely rigorous. The master programs vary a lot in difficulty. I do security and have met a lot of INI masters students. Opportunities here are excellent.

I wasn't impressed by the other "great' CS schools. CMU SCS is the real deal. We smash the shit out of them.

lol can't even begin to explain how irrelevant sports are here to the general pop. As far as I know the catholic private school we share a football field with gets significantly larger crowds.

tips for tally? best tip I can give you is start lifting now if you havent already. ive been all over the world and still no place that has as high a concentration of phenomenally beautiful women. theyre stupid easy too so long as youre somewhat Jow Forums and can hold a conversation.

also and probably more importantly, fsu is a tier 1 research university. there are some heavy hitters there as far as academia goes if youre interested. seek them out and foster those relationships. they can provide you with incredible opportunities and invaluable experience.

I fucking love tallahassee. There are more girls here my age than there are white people in the entire country I grew up in. Girls here dig the accent for some reason. I have a girlfriend though and I want that shit to last, she's awesome(if you know the tiers of sororities at FSU, shes an adpi, theyre cute as FUCK)

And yes, I'm well aware of the research-related connections FSU has. I'm a CS major and already have running subscription-based software so there isn't much research I can do at the moment that's better field experience than acutally running my own software, which is why I'm also going for an entrepreneurship minor at the Moran School.

id recommend studying abroad but it sounds like you're already fairly well traveled/cultured so you'd probably get more out of it traveling solo. studying abroad was by far the best part of my college experience, though, and i know many other who feel the same.

the entrepreneurship school wasn't around when i started unfortunately because I did go on to start my own business - will be on campus in late November/early December hiring programmers. keep your eyes peeled for any flyers up in the CS/mathematics buildings.

theta and gamma phi were my fav actually in terms of people to hang with. my roommates just did a lot of partying so i worked with what was around i guess.

they offer a few full scholarships for the study abroad programs, and many partial scholarships - you just have to apply early. I know at least 2/31 people in my year had full scholarships.
