red pill me on the YMCA
it seems like it would be terrible because of all the kids and literal homosexuals. is it actually a bad place to lift?

It's a planet fitness with barbells. Good enough if it's convenient for you.
If its majority white, then its great.
Great place to read a book
If you don't like homosexuals what are you doing on Jow Forums?
Kind of expensive because you're subsidizing all of their charity shit with your membership. The one near me was crowded, and got even worse when groups of teenagers, and sometimes children who escaped their handlers would show up and start doing stupid shit. I cancelled my membership after a month or so, went to anytime fitness instead, and never looked back.
The y is filled with freaks, felons and homeless. I lift there but I have no idea why. Probably for old times sake I suppose.
Wrong. My town was over 90 percent white until a few years ago and it was still as described above.
My local Y has been my gym for years, its usually packed during the spring, but the rest of the year is empty except for highschool kids and old people
I was lucky enough to get a judo school which trained in mine, as well as a decent weight area with a large pool. Depends on the y really.
Lifted at a Y for my first 3 years of lifting
Was alright in terms of equipment but you have to tolerate a lot of people who have never lifted before and don't have a fucking clue what they're doing. Employees are probably minimum wage and don't clean shit. There will most likely be a surplus of cardio bunnies. Prices can be fucking absurd (my membership was 46 a month). Do what you gotta do I guess
it really varries by location. The one I went too back home in florida was really nice. Mostly old people, but it was always clean and had a really nice pool.
They usually let you do a free day, So you could do that to scope it out.
I have a free trial because my old gym was bought out by a cult. Then it's $50/month, but goes down to $30 if I go back to school (which I plan on doing in January)
Just like user said it varies location to location some are really fucking nice others are dumps. They usually give tours so just go check out the weight room and you should be able to judge which category it falls in to
great place to work if you want to work in a gym and help the community.
also this
>some are really fucking nice
this. i lift at the y and i love the place
If you are a member at a YMCA you can use any YMCA location with that one membership
My only issue is the general lack of dumbbells over a 100lb. That's about it, for $30 you get a membership across the US, swimming pools etc. Good deal.
My Y has 3 squat racks, a deadlifting mat, 4 benches and just about any thing else you could want including dumb shit like speed bags and battle ropes. There is also a pool, saunas, hot tubs, 3 basketball courts, and a 1/6 mile indoor track. I pay about 50/month. You're a retard btw
Lots of weirdos but all the equipment you could want
it's p. great, it has everything you might need; 4 benches, 2 squat racks, extra barbells, incline and decline bench, dumbells up to 130, etc. My only issue is the gym is packed full of geezers in the mornings.
You're right, he is retarded
My Y has 3 cages, a squat rack, 4 stationary benches, several more mobile ones, 2 deadlift platforms, and a bunch of meme shit like TRX and battle ropes, along with cable and fixed ROM machines. Ditto on the pool, basketball, track, and a bunch of other shit but all I do there is lift
Good for you. They have staff that actively walk around to give you "advice" and will kick you out for wearing open toed shoes and revealing tank tops. The gym is usually filled with dyels but you guys should blend right in. The place is brimming with testosterone. Enjoy your expensive dyel club spa.
This
>been to a handful of ymcas, the dumbbells never go above 100lbs
>lots of old men wearing towels roaming
>hex plates or cute cheap rubber ones
>got yelled at for deadlifting loudly
>kids
>super expensive on top of all that
>They have staff that actively walk around to give you "advice"
No, they don't
>will kick you out for wearing open toed shoes
I've seen people deadlift and squat barefoot and no one said shit
>revealing tank tops
Several juicers wear those and again, no one says shit
>Enjoy your expensive dyel club spa.
I do, everyone is scared of the barbells so even at peak times there's usually a rack available
True. And that's why I keep going there. Most other gyms are cheaper (I pay 35 bucks a month) but the y has a pool, racquetball, basketball, weights, cardio equipment, and a climbing wall. The other places have maybe two or three of those things if you're lucky.
they are never happy
I live relatively rural, so my Y has like one dl "platform" two squat racks and two benches. Rarely run into other people using them all up. Then there's like 20 other machines than are shared between me and the 4 other people there. I'd say take a tour and see what they have.
it's where I go to work out- it's okay. Has some equipment I don't have the space for in my home.
Only issue is how absurdly expensive that shit is. I made the cut last year and only paid one small sum for the year (like 120 bucks instead of like 80 a month for ONE GODDAMN PERSON).
It's okay, but the fact is, if you were ever a college student at a local community college, you can work out there for free instead.
that must depend on the place. My YMCA has 150 and 160 pound dumbells.
The YMCA by me is great. Few homosexuals, hardly anyone under 18, and none of them unattended. It's got a huge weight room, tons of machines, a pool, hot tub, and dry and steam saunas. It only costs me $20 a month because my insurance company has some kind of partnership with them and covers most of the fee.
Sounds terrible. At mine, they don't care what you wear, they don't talk to you unless you approach them, though there are a few hamplanets and dyels.
My YMCA spent a shitton of money on the crossfit trend, and NOBODY uses it! Their response was to raise prices lol.
>100 bucks a month for non-employees
>Shitty gym
>Hours are shorten than the gym at my local community college
>Old people taking up everything
Only reason I went was because I used to work for the Y, but it was vastly inferior to just working out in college.
