Yes it works. You really don't need to eat as often as you think you do. I think there are some gay ass science studies that show fasting does good things for the body but really you're just practicing discipline and are less likely to eat too much if you're withholding your eating hours.

I don't know man, I feel much better since I started doing it about a year ago. In the rare occasions when I have breakfast I feel very sluggish. Also I love working out fasted, but I only do muay thai/boxing/calisthenics, can't speak for lifting.

For the most part this is true. Some people do gain some benefit to their gut health by giving longer periods of time between eating. This allows the gut to heal and repair. Not an issue for everybody but worth trying if you have a history of GI distress.

When you ask if IF work, what do you mean? Lose weight? Hypetrophy? Save food stamps?

I tested a 2 hour eating window and 22 hour water fasting for a couple of weeks as an experiment.
I had a carb rich diet during the eating window as I had experimented with lowish carb diet earlier.

I trained the hours just before the eating window to help supress hunger as my hunger goes away when I train.


My goal was to see how it affected my training. It was not to reduce weight, so my calorie intake during the eating window was big enough to avoid it.

At the time I did PPL 6 times/week and found my recovery got worse, so I ended up doing a slightly smaller workload.

what about the effect IF has on insulin sensitivity, specifically for skinny fats?

look up dr jason fung. He's a doctor in Canada that's written multiple books and just came out with a study. There are also studies showing IF people losing more weight than people just doing calorie deficits.

i'm not saying IF doesn't work (I do it when cutting), it has some benefits like improving focus and concentration, but it's not a magic solution or indispensable if you want to lose weight

Sorry, did no bloodwork during my IF, so only have my vague feelings (and training diary) to rely on.

According to the studies I've read, the increase in growth hormones only happen after 3-4 days or so, together with various other changes by the body in a desperate attempt to get us to find food. (Like an increase in adrenaline.)

So for this reason i tested a 7 day water fast to document changes (still perceived, no blood work).
My recovery got even worse (shouldn't come as a surprise really) and I stopped lifting all together.

After the week I didn't notice any positive effects. I got back to training with less volume than before the fast.
I didn't notice any huge negative effects either, but for any future cut I will rely on 500 kcal deficit + cardio. It works for me.
Fasting is great to clean out cells from trash (autophagy) and combat endocrinological disorders like T2 diabetes, but it didn't really help my training so not something I will do on a regular basis.

I also hear it boosts test.
