Although I quite liked Meditations, that quote is complete bullshit. I don't think even the most retarded relativist would really doubt that some things aren't true and others false, e.g. 2+2=4 being true and 2+2=5 being false. The fact that the world is round is a fact, not a matter of perspective. In fact, I find it difficult to think of any claim that isn't strictly true or false. You may think a certain food is good, while I don't like it, but there is no contradiction in these sorts of things, either: "user A likes the food" and "user B doesn't like the food" are not contradictory to each other. A universal claim (Food X tastes good) might be an example of a thing that is not really true or false, but all in all, I think very few things are truly matters of opinion.

>2+2 is 4 and not 5
We gave arithmetic definitions to abstract concepts we gave laws and rules and within those 2+2=4 outside the bubble it makes no sense to ask what 2+2 is if you think big enough everything becomes relative but then again is not practical to any use most of what we do lays within our little human bubble also >tfw no gf

After watching Dom Mazettis videos I never needed motivation to go to the gym.

"Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks" - Mahatma Gandhi

The symbols and concepts for there being two or four objects (or some other things) are entirely contingent in nature, sure. The symbol 2 doesn't have be like it is, nor does the word "two" have to sound like it does. However, the concept or the idea of there being two of something is not up to humans. Even without any intelligent life, there would still be two, ten or million of something, for example two leaves in a puddle. If two more leaves fell into the puddle, there would be four leaves, even though no human or alien was there to understand it. The laws of mathematics are not manmade.

I can relate.

>two leaves in a puddle
Define leaf, define puddle.

I know that may sound like I'm just being obtuse, but all definitions are arbitrary constructs. There is no non-arbitrary distinction between any two 'things', now yes, it's intuitive to view 'things' as distinct and separate from one another, but unfortunately this isn't true. It's all just atom soup; there is only one thing: the fully-interconnected universe.

I don't believe the existence of leaves or puddles is up to whether or not humans make definitions about what they are. The atoms of the leaf are connected to each other in a way they are not connected to the water molecules making up the puddle, which makes the leaf its own entity, separate from other things. Or maybe a leaf is just a process and there are no entities, like process ontologists think, but I'm not very familiar with that way of thinking, so I can't really say. You are right in the sense that it is quite arbitrary when a body of water is a puddle and when it is a pond, lake, and so worth. Still, if four objects, be they leaves or whatever, fall into a body or water with no other leaves, it is a fact that are four leaves in that body of water. This is the case even when no-one can understand the idea of there being four of something.

Although it is proven by calculus that a rational number like 2 is the exact result of the constant and never ending approach of irrational numbers (read the paradox of Achilles and the turtle to have a better understanding of this concept) we cant really say that this how the universe works abstract concepts like numbers are not necessarily represented by the universe as we how we with our limited minds see them
Theres always a deeper degree of precision to which any concept can be wrong accordingly to the context that makes everything absolutely relative

No it is totally accurate, you just take it to mean that it denies that there is an empirical truth, when it simply means that even an opinion based on logic and reason is still an opinion. It's an important distinction that the scientific community very rarely makes due to self righteousness and ignorance, and it's why they often come off worse in debates. Most scientists don't know how to argue because they never learn to, it's a problem inherent in the scholarship too.

> it's intuitive to view 'things' as distinct and separate from one another, but unfortunately this isn't true.

Surprisingly wrong! Quantum physics shows us that energy (which includes both matter and motion) falls into distinct packets or quanta with no in-between. Those energy states give us chemical bonds. A crystal has real sides and edges because of the interaction of particles in those energy levels.

Thus: I cannot know the boundaries of a leaf to the exact femtometer, but it has an outline all the same, and two separate leaves are fully distinct.

Yeah their atoms are distinct, but all things are constantly interacting with all other things in some way or another, they are never entirely in a state of isolation.

I operate under the axiom that 'if two things cannot be separated, they are in fact the same thing'. It is impossible to separate anything from the wider universe, you cannot remove anything from it, only convert it from one form to another. At the dawn of time all matter, in the form of energy was together, formed as a singularity. The infinitely complex interactions that followed the big bang gave rise to the universe as we see it now, if you wished to actually 'remove' anything from the universe, you would have to change the initial conditions of the whole thing.

Analogies always fall apart at some level of scrutiny, but here's one anyway. All 'things' are simply branches of a tree, each seemingly separate and distinct, stretching this way or that, but are all part of one whole tree. A tree needs branches, and branches need the tree.
