I am a brainlet that doesn't understand anything so forgive me high IQ anons. I'm an existentially depressed retard who hates this material universe. I feel like nothing matters, I have no interest in anything. I really have no reason to want to live. I don't care about friends. I don't care about sex. I don't have hobbies. I spend my time simply being a meat sack that constantly suffers. I am very close to killing myself.
However, the only hope I have is some sort of technological advancement that creates happiness for hopeless people like myself. Is it possible that advancements in stuff like virtual reality, AI, and technologies like neuralink can create some sort of post-human paradise? Is there any reason for my to continue living in hopes of future technology saving me? Give it to me straight anons
No It wont be in our lifetimes We are alive during the adolescence of technological advancement where we are just hitting a point where technology is 100% necessary but not good enough to take us to a fantasyland It sucks
Parker Harris
user, you'll get to experience some really cool stuff in your lifetime if you manage to keep a good salary without working crazy hours if you live long enough. But you won't get to live in some kind of utopia.
Jace Adams
>work 5/7ths of your life >need to hope you make enough to not hate the 2 days off >die Fucking shit
Tyler Williams
I might fucking rope holy shit I can't believe I may actually do this
Lucas Clark
The further technology advances, the further into hell we descend. The (((enlightenment))) and the (((industrial revolution))) was a grave mistake
We won't be able to reach technological paradise in our life times. But have you thought in taking antidepressants? They give practically the same results that you are looking for. Your dont care about your life. So side effects won't bother you. Plus side effects are allways overreacted by normies.
You can't have the technological heaven, but you can have the chemical one. Kek. Think about it.

Some scientists predict that we'll discover immortality by the end of the century. Even if it takes a bit longer, if we can discover ways to prolong our lifespans, then we can live long enough to live forever. Ray Kurzweil and some other guy I forget his name talk about it a lot, you can read their writings. I think we were born in the sweet spot to achieve immortality. If not there's always the noose.
Ryder Rivera
Like those flying cars that im enjoying right now.
Evan Watson
Just because you're too fucking stupid to read doesn't mean you have to strawman you fucking moron
Austin Fisher
By "discover ways to prolong our life" you mean biologically?
Josiah Johnson
I've thought about it. I really can't imagine it working though. Maybe it's worth a shot before I rope though
John Roberts
Well our body is biological so yes, but I reason that you actually meant biological as in "without the need of an outside supplement". It's probably a multi-pronged effort, they're working on different methods to achieve it; there's the obvious genetic manipulation, cybernetics, cryogenics, etc. There's a lot of things that have to be done for it to be achieved, for example we don't yet know how to generate artificial blood, we don't know how to reverse cell aging, and so on. But we're working on it, and scientists seem hopeful, so we'll see.

Maybe a brain in a vat scenario
Landon Richardson
It could be possible but there is no real profit from it so it wont be available to the general masses. And if it was available there would probably be a huge price to pay such as giving the govt/megacorps a backdoor to your brain or something
How old are you user? I'm somewhat in the same boat. I haven't given up on life yet but during the past year or so I've become intensely interested in concepts like the singularity and transhumanism. I wish i could tell you that paradise is coming during your lifetime but the truth is no one knows ( partially because you haven't revealed your age). Not even the skeptics know. I like to think about it like this: i'm 22, and in fifty years i'll be seventy two. That magnitude of change in those fifty years will be greater than the magnitude of change that separates us from 1968. Imagine how batshit crazy the world today would appear to someone from that time, were they instantly transported to 2018.
My (rather optimistic) view is: i think we're going to make it. Look at the changes AI has made in the last fifty years, and extrapolate that to the next fifty years. If we can harness it for good, you might get the paradise you seek. But there will be associated risks, as other anons have pointed out. Just hang in there. Worse case scenario, you'll die of old age. Best case scenario: you can exist forever in a world of your own making.
OP there is something i dont understand. You are telling us that you dont have a motive to live. And that you are searching for an immortal life. Isn't that life torturing yourself. You dont need technology to do that. Having your brain connected to a machine won't fix the problems that you have. Those problems might me solved with advancements in psychology and psychiatry
Blake Perry
I think OP is implying that such a machine could change his brain in order to make him 'happy'. I'm assuming he does not want to live an immortal life as the miserable person he currently is.
Angel Parker
I don't care about immortality. I mean it'd be nice if I was happy I suppose, but idgaf about that in general. What I want is some sort of brain device that deludes me into joy. Some sort of utopian VR experience.
Bentley Collins
Good idea also op could try some drugs because fuck it at least maybe he get good trip before killing himself.
tl;dr+w: There is a wonderful afterlife awaiting everyone around the corner of a ceased heartbeat, and suicide takes you there immediately. The purpose of life is to learn to enjoy existence *** despite *** how horrible it is. The person who cries of happiness, forgiveness, unconditional love and acceptance while he is being tortured... imagine how happy such a person would be in heaven?
That is the emotional maturity that is the endgoal for all of us. Be amazing, happy, loving, kind, accepting, despite how hard your life circumstances may demonstrably be.
Another reason I mention this is also because Ayahuasca will make your life on earth a relative paradise. There is no experience that even compares with it, and you might cry from happiness if you take it. I know many people who have. You WILL learn to love your own life again, and living with Ayahuasca in your life will make your personal life completely fucking amazing.
Where is the scam though? I don't really buy into his woo woo explanation of death anyway
William Wright
shilling drugs and a new age religion bullshit

You'll live forever in peace if you accept the Lord Jesus Christ

I know everybody likes to mock and scoff, but take time to read the Bible. Even if you get nothing out of it (which is unlikely), it'll at least a hefty task for you to perform, thus giving you purpose. Life is all about fulfilling tasks, but the afterlife is about having the humility to let God save you
