A lot of problems would be solved, a lot of new weird problems would arise. Ecological concerns would diminish, but the workforce would be totally screwed in most places- a lot of jobs can't be done with pocket-sized workers, and still more would need modification at the very least. Transportation would become weird, how would the littles get around? I could see lithium shortages (from RC batteries) becoming a big issue.

I imagine that initially the cost of specialized tiny equipment will be quite expensive, but as the economy adjusts it should get cheaper over time until eventually tiny cars and computers are cheaper than regular sized ones.
As for the workforce, it's true that the blue collar workforce would take a major hit, but the white collar workforce should be fine after a period of adjustment. After all, an engineer or an accountant doesn't need to be big when the work comes from their mind and not their muscles.

For the first few hours (1 to 12 hours hard to judge) there would be mass panic as seemingly half the world has shrunk down. Religous zealots of every variety would go crazy thinking its the rapture or something. In this time many of the tinies will die as nobody will be aware of their existence.

After its clearly communicated to everyone that the people shrunk instead of disappearing everyone goes even more insane then before. I'm talking looting, mass protests in some countries, maybe even war or revolution in the middle east. The tinies would begin to be snatched up either by loved ones or those with malicious intent. Mass deaths for them still continue as no one is that aware still but not as bad as before.

The government scientists give some scientific reason for the mass shrinking, could be real or fake it doesn't matter its meant to calm down the mass panic. The governments of most western nations begin a mass effort to discover the tinies that still haven't been found. Tinies continue to increasingly be discovered and less so stepped on.
>Stage 4
After about a week or two once a good portion of the tinies in the west have been rediscovered they begin readjustment back into ordinary life. Those with no where else to go end up in government care which will probably really suck (and possibly lead to hot abusive giantess circumstances). Outside most western nations however the tinies aren't even really treated with much dignity. They are likely either enslaved or killed possibly by their own family.

Not really sure what would happen at this point desu, though this point might continue for a few years. In the west as well the tinies will be abused as well but to a far lesser degree. Over time the economy in the west will adjust for them and they may actually start to live somewhat normal lives in the west. Possibly over time western nation may pressure others to give tinies more rights but their cultures likely would never respect this. If you're a tiny you're doing everything you can to get to North America or Europe. There may be some far right stuff about how these people are literally rats which isn't too far off at their condition probably.
Here's a unique plotline that I think is really interesting that could happen. Possibly at some point in the distant future there may be a situation where there is a larger tiny population then normal human in the west since it costs less to reproduce and all the tinies from non western nations will try anything to get to the west like even more then Africans now since they're at risk of literally being eaten. At this point I think regular humans of the west might disregard their rights and give them a 2nd class citizenship or something of that nature. Maybe at some point there'll be a Hitler figure that will try to holocaust the tinies, because I'm sure there will be a super jew caste of them since that would be their most effective means of survival though.
Also on a related note holy fuck I wish I was one of the shrinkees and then a cute girl finds me before anyone else and decides to enslave me. Not even for sexual stuff but just for random stuff. Realistically? Small humans are eaten by small mammals (pets and rats/mice), birds and insects (cockroaches and spiders) unless they're put in a safe space by the other 50% very quickly. Many small people starve to death as they are unable to acquire food from their own kitchen. The societal collapse that follows would be similar to the effects of the black death or fall of the western roman empire. Complete depopulation of urban areas with survivors fleeing to the country, the people that are still normal sized would be more concerned about where they'll find fresh water and food than caring for the little ones.
Not all grey for normal people, massive depopulation is the best proven way to redistribute wealth, with room for growth the survivors will look at low housing prices and high wages. Little people would be fucked, either totally reliant on family for survival or simply stuck inside their own homes and apartments unable to escape being hunted by the now hungry and large animals around them.
