You don't have to be involved with social media to benefit from it. I met my girlfriend after she handed me her phone after class. It was open to facebook and she just told me to punch in my name and add me. If I didn't have facebook nothing would of happened probably.

Because I'm not retarded, my personal data is worth more than the collection of services that Facebook and others provide, otherwise, they would not be in business.

I don't feel comfortable with giving out my data just like that, and almost all of those companies don't have a good history in terms of security and/or selling your data so malicious parties can manipulate people more easily with it.

That's also a concern, I think they caught Facebook doing that recently, but I was referring to the actual submission of data like pictures, private messages, videos, etc on their platform, all of that information can be analyzed on a mass scale for any purpose, including profit.

Also you do realize that they can read all the private messages you send through their system? The average FB engineer gets paid over $100,000 a year, do you think they just let those messages, friends, and other data just sit there without any purpose?

They are way ahead of you in terms of all the extra data they can infer from some bits and pieces of information, if you login frequently from home, and your family members use Facebook in the same house, it's quite easy to infer your relation to those people.

Once you're posting and adding people, it's over. You're not going to outmaneuver them in any way.

You are trying to reframe this very poorly, the individual pieces of data from each individual are valuable, without them, you wouldn't have the aggregate
