Knee tracking is probably shit, keep your knees in line with your toes at all times
Barbell hip thrusts with moderate tempo and slow eccentric are damn good not only for glute hypertrophy but also teaching your lumbar spine, Erectors, hamstrings and glutes to work in tandem
Go for tempo first, then worry about (high) reps, THEN worry about weight
I like warming up with kettlebell squats and swings first

Split squats are fine, but if your balance is poor and if you are lifting heavy enough weight, I wouldn't recommend. Too much lateral movement on the loaded knee can lead to problems.
A Pussypad or towel should help.
