FAQ
>What is /fast/?
Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.

>What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.?
>Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum.
>Water fasting: Fasting with only water.
>Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.

>Why should I fast?

Read all of these, they might answer some other questions you may want to ask.

>Can I fast if I have ___?
See your doctor before fasting if you:
>Have any sort of chronic illness
>Have gout
Don’t fast if you:
>Have type 1 diabetes
>Are malnourished/severely underweight
>Are pregnant
>Are breastfeeding

>How do I safely do an extended fast?
Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
>2000mg of sodium (preferably Himalayan Pink Salt) max
>4700mg of saltless potassium max
>Mix these in a liter of water and sip it throughout the day.
The apple cider vinegar and lemon are optional.
You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

>Won’t I go into starvation mode?
No. It only occurs at extremely low body fat (8-10%).

>Will (something with calories) break my fast?
Yes, headass.

>Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
You can do whatever the fuck you want. We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.

>Do I need a multivitamin?
No

cawfee post boibagina pls

10~15% is the ideal bf for any person and easy to maintain.
Starting 9% below is where struggle starts since your body goes in starvation mode. You'll feel shit physically and mentally unless you really want to be ripped or a skeleton.

On day 5 and I'm feeling fine except for the near constant cravings for delicious food, almost bordering on arousal
I think I really would hit that bigmac

>see that black coffee has ~5kcal per cup
>allowed to have it
>see that broth has ~5kcal per cup
>not allowed to have it

Hey guys I have been doing 1/72 with sneak juice and iodine substituted for the potassium because I can't get potassium in my state. How long do you think till I get to abs?

Is iodine a good sub for potassium if it's illegal?

please stop posting your pictures here
you make me have precum runnin down my thighs

>show dad some cole videos
>"hey this guy is contradicting himself in a few places"

Needless to say, I no longer speak to my "father".

Cole says you're allowed to have coffee but not broth.

Moron.

>Cole says you're allowed to have coffee but not broth.

This is not true. Cole recently says, dump the coffee addiction with other addictions all together.

>starvation mode
>9%
Stop propagating this shit. Starvation mode it for literally Holocaust tier bodies, sub 5% at the very least.
somewhere in the high single digits is where hormonal imbalance starts, but that is not starvation mode, you basically just have a constant period and it hurts gains.

>sub 5% at the very least.
there is no such thing as sub 5% and being alive at the same time

Yes there is unless you're a woman. It's dangerous, but not deadly until 2-3%.

Professional body builders at shows routinely cut down 3%

Posted this on last thread but didn't get too many replies:

Can you fast for a certain amount of days each week for the rest of your life? Even if you're bulking/maintaining (by making up for calories on eating days)? I've become addicted to water fasting on this cut...
>Mild acne clears up
>Actually enjoy the feeling of hunger. Find it easier to go without eating than restricting calories
>Makes me sleepy at a reasonable time
Pls respond bros

Yes, Jason Fung does it routinely. If anything once you lose whatever weight you want you should still fast semi-frequently for the other health benefits

To be fair, you can't compare anything remotely natural to those guys. Hormonal imbalance isn't a problem when all your hormones come from outside sources anyway.

Someone please tell me to not eat until I'm 10-12% bf

I just finished my first fast of 16 hours, at first it was hell, but now it doesn't hurt anymore.
I feel like a have transcended humanity, will it get better or worse from now on?

Attached: my+coffee+is+not+hot+enough.jpg (715x722, 64K)

what supplements should i get to go with a 30 day water fast?

Had the same problem. I was dying for a pepperoni pizza specifically.
I help the cravings now by watching cooking videos on youtube and imagining the delicious meals I'll cook for myself when I'm done.

You'll probably still have gradually decreasing hunger pangs for a few more days, then it becomes pretty minimal. They're still there and annoying (especially if you see something tasty) but otherwise the first 3-4 days are really the worst by far.

Better, so long as you do it right. Don't eat too many carbs and you won't get the massive insulin spikes and resulting hunger pangs.

it's too hard for me to fucking fast.

Congrats man! It takes a bit to get used to it, but it gets much easier overtime. Best thing is to just ease into it. Stay away from carbs and sweets, that's the main thing that makes it tough for people. Also, be sure to drink the salt water.

Don't eat until you are 10-12% bf

how do you deal with insomnia? I get so agitated during a fast I often don't fall asleep until 5am. it messes up with my lifts. teeth color for reference.

is there anyone motivating like cole i can watch?

I was just fucking around in Cronometer trying to create the perfect cutting diet with the least amount of foods. I'd be interested in seeing other people's daily food plan to cross-compare. I find that there's not much wiggle room and you basically have to choose the most nutrient dense low-cal foods to reach all nutritional targets.

STOP RESPONDING TO THIS IMAGE
THIS IS NOT THE POSTER

clen, ephedra, dnp

nothing else is meth tho

why are you taking iodine?

Can't get meth pills where I live, and I don't fancy snorting or injecting it
I guess modafinil will have to do

Does anyone have any experience with using yohimbine along with fasting and if it increases fat loss? I'm finding mixed results.

it doesnt do shit

it'll give you some energy if you're fasting or on OMAD and you take it early morning in a fasted state

Alright, im 350lbs, pill me on fasting and why I should. Articles I read are always saying 'dont go below x cals cuz metabolism' If i wanted to fast to get my weight to something low enough where exercise wouldnt strain my body, where should I start.

bro meth is neurotoxic, go read about the meth epidemic in the USA. I don't really think you will ever find any confirmable person who can take meth to lose weight and have a good life and be in shape and have a job and not suck cock behind dumpsters

>dnp

So I've lost a little over a hundred lbs fasting this past year and I'm startin to get back into lifting and I wanna work it in with fasting.

Do any of you guys eat only on days you workout and then not on days you dont? Any negative effects on recovery or doms?

How do you fast? Is it like eat one day/week or does it vary from person to person?

Read the OP

Sorry im actually retarded in some cases, my main question is this
I've skimmed through the articles but nothing really is said on recommendeds when starting out.

Stop eating until you can't take it anymore. Then do it again. Repeat until you can fast for 7 days. After that do cycles of 7 days, break, 7 days

when cutting my ideal lifting/fasting is to fast for 3 days, while lifting on day 2 and 3 of the fast. then about 2 days of eating without lifting. anywhere from one meal a day to a window of 6 hours. i eat whatever i want without tracking or counting.

my lifts are 2/3/4.5/5.5

i can't do this while doing school fulltime tho.

How much did he get?

You ideally shouldn't stop doing fasting its not normal to eat ad libitum. As in, it's normal to not be eating/grazing all the time. Fasting isn't done for weight loss, ideally, it's just healthy like working out.

>fasting isnt done for weight loss
Than why even bother reeee

I'm reading anecdotal evidence on Lyle McDogFucker forums about using DNP with fasting. The results are great in 3 day fasting.
Probably I will do a N=1 experiment with DNP when I get some money and some yellow stuff. I'll post results.

A lot of people find 16/8 fasting to be the most reasonable, with 24 hours + bring difficult to maintain for most people.
With 16/8 you are fasting for 16 hours and eating within an 8 hour window. Stop eating 4 hours before you sleep. If you sleep 8 hours don't break the fast for another 4 hours. That makes 16.
No calories from anything is the safest route. That hunger you feel that most people aren't used to will feel weird at first. Trust me, you do get used to that hunger. It's not natural for an animal to be eating all day ah all hours. Fasting is actual more healthy and you can experiment by doing it for sometime and seeing how much different your energy is during that time.

Okay let me rephrase. It's great for weight loss but it's primarily simply a very natural healthy way to eat. I have my dad do it. He is overweight. I have my low weight mom also do it. It's just good for you. Feeling good, feeling right, is as important as weight loss

Let me say something else. If your goal is losing weight, then fasting/working out aren't your main method. It's basically all diet. Reduce intake of processed foods/sugars/seed oils(this is big)/carbs replace with more fatty (preferably not poly-unsaturated fatty acids) and protein. Not extreme like keto but keto is obviously a good way to lose weight.

Fasting has great benefits as does working out but if you continue to eat poorly when you fast/work out you will not lose weight.

Doing HIIT 3-4 times a week. Will the cardio training HIIT gives me allow me to run a decent distance? I’d like to be able to have some endurance if need be.

>if you contnue to eat poorly when you fast/work out you will not lose weight
Why are you lieing? I eat like shit when I don't fast and I've lost 20 pounds since I started a month ago

If you're very fat moving at all will burn fat. But really user, that's dangerously anecdotal. Basically when you're imagining weight loss, diet>>>>>>>>>exercise. It's not a good idea to tell people that exercise is great for weight loss. In general it's really not.

Fasting isn't exercise, what are you smoking?

I don't get what you're saying. Fasting is a physical stressor like exercise. Neither is as important as diet when discussing weight loss. I don't fast everyday for weight loss. I don't workout for weight loss. I don't eat less for weight loss.

Fasting is not the same as exercise. You do exercise to break down muscle fibers so you rebuild them bigger/stronger. You fast to allow your body to access stored fat for energy.
>I don't eat less for weight loss
You're definitely smoking something

I don't get why youre implying I said they were one in the same.
>you're smoking something
No. I don't smoke. If you want to lose weight, you change what you're eating. That is the most efficient way to lose weight.

Do you seriously think if someone eats like shit, but fast for 4 days a week, they won't lose weight?

I seriously know that there are far more efficient ways to lose weight and maintain lean form. I also fast everyday, do you?

Are you saying that someone who eats entirely healthy food at their TDEE everyday would lose more weight than someone who is fasting a majority of the week?

Yeah. I don't lose weight if I fast, because feasting always comes after fasting, and you're still eating the same calories in a more concentrated window. If you're suggesting that a normal fat person will dive right into 24 hour fasts 4 days of the week which requires ten times more discipline than not eating that entire cake, well that's a little odd because I'm genuinely trying to give advice on the best weight loss method and consistent fasting method. Personally I don't do 24 hr fasts. Certainly that is very healthy. Are you looking for a debate user?

Heres a great anecdote: my obese dad started fasting recently. 18/6. After his fast he rewards himself by eating absolute shit like he always does. The following days he weighs more. Wtf?! Really? But he fasted why did he gain weight? He's the same way after an intense workout: still eats shit. Still fat. Wtf?! But he worked out.

Im not trying to debate, but it's very misleading to tell a person fasting doesn't lead to weight loss, when it overwhelming does when you do it for longer than 24 hours. A fat persons goal should be to build toward longer and longer fast, in tandem with diet changes. Telling them fasting won't help them accelerate their progress is 100% incorrect
Make him do a 24 or 48 hour fast, guarantee he won't be able to out feast what he lost during his fast

No no. I didn't say fasting won't aid in weight loss. I said many times it's not the ideal method for weight loss. Simply not eating certain exogenous food is multiple times more efficient at losing weight than fasting and than, when you feast, you eat shit. Also as a general health guideline you shouldn't put bad unnatural shit in your body. You also shouldn't eat ad libitum. And no, I won't tell my fat dad to fast for 2 days at a time. Frankly that's fucking ridiculous as a primary method of weight loss and I don't understand why someone would rather do that then eat less shitty junk food.
Anyway, I told him to eat differently, since not losing weight from not eating for 18 hours a day freaked him out. Now he is losing weight.

please respond

How do I keep my gains when fasting?

That’s all I need to know

If you're just stating to fast I understand that but insomnia is a real condition as opposed to.. Having trouble sleeping because you're body is used to you eating ad libitum (whenever you want). This problem ought to evaporate very quickly, but try to make sure you're eating satiating meals.

Are you doing 16/8? 24/24?

Basically intermittent fasting doesn't (shouldn't) affect lean muscle mass.

You don't need gains; you are the gains!

Attached: fxd.jpg (1000x986, 156K)

It's okay user.
On the journey to your goal body you shouldn't forget to live.
