it's soccer mom science. it's "bad" because it has some ingredients that people aren't familiar with as well as having sugar. When you look at the ingredients you notice that everything is pretty normal and there for a reason. They're not bad but they're a waste of money

They are not bad for you per se. They contains micronutrients that can be detrimental to your body if you abuse energy drinks, also the caffeine spikes can temporarily fuck up your heart rate but i'm assuming that a rational person will not down a whole can in one gulp. They can also upset your stomach.
But these are all things that come with abusing energy drinks, not simply using them. They are perfectly safe as long as you consume them in moderation. Don't listen to fearmongers.
Also i think it's so obvious that i wont even talk about how detrimental processed sugars are, especially when so many energy drinks now come with calorie-free sweeteners like sucralose or stevia that are completely safe(worst case scenario they can upset your stomach if you consume a fuckton).
Always keep in mind that no food or drink is bad for you if consumed in moderation

I think the biggest thing is that it's really easy to overdo it. Most sugary drinks aren't gonna completely wreck you but most people have shitty self control so it's easier to just stay off em all together instead of managing it.

The biggest thing I've seen against energy drinks is the sugar in them. Sugar free stuff has the argument of artificial sweeteners are bad for you (but less bad than sugar). The secondary thing that makes them bad is the caffeine but in moderation it's completely fine for a healthy adult. Prevailing argument is the sugar tho

I built up to 4 a day in an 8 hour work window. i needed them to function more than a few hours. once i got home i would crash but couldn't sleep. I would wake a minimum of 8 times in an 8 hour window. because of that I couldn't get out of bed if I tried. would stay in bed and keep cycling in and out of sleep until I had to go back to work.
I did this for about 2 years. I was a sip poster. Today I'm 3 weeks clean. I went through massive withdrawals and currently only consume a mug of coffee in the morning. I still crave the things but if I start I wont be able to stop again

The worst thing they'll do is lead you to physical exhaustion with habitual use, since the effect of the ingredients is to liberate energy stored in your body already and block your tiredness receptors, leading to poor sleeping habits and depleting the available sugars in your body.

I do know that many jobs that require extensive outdoor work have instituted bans on energy drinks during the summer because of the insane risk of heat stroke and your heart fucking up.
I also know that doctors recommend that you not drink energy drinks (soda in general, but especially energy drinks) if you have problems with gout.
