My little brother is having a hard time at school. He's getting bullied, has self-esteem issues (hitting puberty late) and it's turning him into an anxious wreck. I feel like if I don't act he's going to grow up with serious issues.
Should I just drag him to the gym with me and make him my ultimate protege?
Could heavy lifting backfire at his age? Especially since he's a late bloomer. Should I stick to dumbell accessory shit to begin with? I read somewhere that squatting before 14~ ish can stunt your growth, but it could just be the same mum-tier advice like "dont deadlift too hard!!".
Anyone been in the same position as I am now and things worked out for your sibling? Feels fucking awful
14 is a great time to start lifting but he's got to want to do it.
He won't stunt his growth unless he roids.
Basically he'll learn good form and make some noob gains. But when he hits puberty and the test really gets pumping in a year or two he'll be able to take advantage of all of that for maximum gains.

Lots of gyms won't allow 14 year olds to lift so check that.

I started when I was 12.
I am jacked at 25 now.

I wish I started lifting at 14. More importantly, I wish I understood the importance of eating BIG and following programs. Teach your brother well, he'll thank you at 18
Luke Perry
Ah user, I wish my big bro was like you. Good on you mate.
Dominic Jones
hell yeah OP good shit nothing makes me happier then when my little brother lifts with me just start him light get his form down make it fun, after every sesh me and my brother flex in the mirror if he has trouble getting motivated after a couple workouts make sure to compliment him often, my little bro is lazy as fuck so I have to keep him pumped also explain what lifts are gonna do and what muscle group they'll hit it'll make him feel like he know some stuff which in turn will keep him excited

>14 is a great time to start lifting but he's got to want to do it.
He used to love sport and athletics, would practice cricket in the backyard every free hour of the day. He still does love it, I think, he's just acutely aware his value to his team is dropping as everyone else hits puberty
For that reason I'm hoping the concept of regular training and discipline is already natural to him. If not, I'll offer him 100 bucks or something if he sticks to it with me for a month or two, and hopefully by the end of that period he's seen the value of it. At least then I can't say I didnt try and there's been a seed planted.

Same. I almost joined when I was 13ish, but I had no money or transport and my parents thought it was a waste of time. If I could go back in time and change only one thing in my life, it'd unironically be hitting the weights young. I just want to sit him the fuck down and have him understand what a huge difference it can make, and how big the advantage he'll have over the popular kids getting normie tier training
Kevin Rogers
i started at 15 take advantage of the surging test levels of puberty and get thick solid tight

>tfw older bro and his friends were tough muscle heads >tfw he inspired me a lot as a kid (I think he doesn't even know how much he inspired me, I take lifting very seriously because of him), saw him as goku and me as gohan >tfw now I'm lifting way more than he did at my age >tfw he barely has any muscle now (he has stopped lifting many years ago) and I swear he got a couple of cm shorter than me
Henry Sanchez
have him run sheikos beginner routine it is designed for early kids with low gpp also get him on some sorta sport like bjj or wrestling,
Noah Russell
You're a good brother, OP
Xavier Mitchell
if hes under 6ft don't make him weight train until he is 18 just make him do calisthenics and wrestling and feed him raw liver to grow
Jack Young
have him do some curls for the girls brah
Jackson Evans
I started around 15 after getting thin and wanting to stop being a small bitch. Was good for me. Learned a lot, and shit has helped me when I get back into the gym or what not to do. Definitely a good idea to help your bro. Shits better than video games for 6 hrs after school.
Caleb Watson
I started at 14

People who started at 14-15 plz post height. No lies Bros.
Cooper Clark
I wouldn't let a 14 year old squat or deadlift heavy though. Let him do full depth pistol squats. Its better for the knees, works your posterior chain, and you can still gain massive strength without having to load a lot if weight on your spine. An 80 kg male doing a pistol squat with a 20 kg kettlebell has the leg strength to backsquat 130ish kgs.

Dude i was a late bloomer too.I was like 5'5 in highchool and now at 21 i'm 5'11.Might be a coincidence but my height went up pretty fast when i started training.Just make him do bodyweight exercises and compounds with reasonable weight and accesories
Jason Diaz
>my height went up pretty fast but not pretty far buddy
Caleb Morris
>my little bro Ahuh sure OP.

We should have a "Fitness Manlet" containment board /fitlet/ for you

6’2”, started lifting a week before I turned 14 for football. I personally would say wait until puberty starts, kids don’t really put on muscle before access to test
Jaxson Kelly
Lifting does not stunt growth. Using anabolics or GH while your growth plates are not fused can possibly fuse them prematurely when you come off of the hormones. Lifting heavy increases natural GH and Test so you will grow more. It won't shut down or fuse plates though because it's not exogenous.
My nephew is 13 and just started lifting with me about 5 months ago. He was /fat/ but he's 5' 10 already and like 205 lbs. So we've been hitting cardio hard and lifting hard. Definitely get him in the gym. I've been trying to balance it where we work hard enough so that he can see improvements ASAP but not too hard that he gets a bad taste in his mouth about lifting. You want him to fall in love with the gym. So do some fuckin arm days and let him see his biceps grow but still hit ur fundamental compounds so he gets a good overall physique. I'm helping my nephew get ready for football so we've been doing some 5x5, lots of cardio, working on his form for the big lifts and hitting the heavy bag. He seems to be having a good time and he's already benching 1 pl8 for 5 and squatting 2 pl8 for 3. We haven't done regular deadlifts but he does 2 pl8 on hex bar deadlifts. Get his ass in there and MAKE SURE HE FUCKIN MAKES IT. You can set him up for fucking life if you do this right. He can be a chad if you guide him properly so don't fuck it up.
I'd say yeah be extra careful 'lifting heavy' and make sure you're doing warmups and all that shit because he could get hurt somehow. He's just a kid. Work on form first thing, work on grip strength, core work etc. My nephew has great form on his squats, his deadlifts need work but that's why we're working up to doing regular deads. Started with grip work and then hex bar. His bench is still awkward because he lacks the hand eye coordination.
I got off on a tangent but im just really fuckin proud of my nephew lol. You'll understand once you get ur litte brother in the gym.
Carter Richardson
also i started lifting when i was about 13-14 and i'm 6' 1
Christopher Hill
You just got taller Those late bloomer height gains

How can GH stunt growth? As far as I know low GH is a cause of short stature.
Jaxson Carter
14 is about the optimal time to start lifting. The whole stunted growth thing is horseshit
Xavier Peterson
He means exogenous GH. Low natural GH and low GH post-artificial-injection will stunt your growth. Working out and insulin (eating carbs) both increase natural GH.
