Barbell rows are retarded of your torso isn't fixed. Imagine doing a horizontal press (bench/incline) with your torso floating freely in the air. Your stabilizers would take over the movement and you wouldn't be able to focus on the target muscle group.

Candito recommends dumbbell rows with a fixed bench for this very reason.

If you must row then I'd say in no particular order: 1 armed barbel rows with a land mine, strict form db rows, inverted rows, and close grip chest supported t bar rows with a neutral grip
Other options are pull ups weighted or otherwise, lat pull downs (ideally facing away from the machine to keep you from cheating with your low back), and some form of pullover as an isolation exercise.
You should also do some form of weighted stretch for 60-90 seconds once you have a fuck load of blood in the muscle for that there hyperplasia
