Why is counting calories so fucking hard for people? Me and my gf always try to tell people who want to lose weight to just count their fucking calories but instead they refuse or get upset and then try meme diets like keto or whatever and then hop onto the next one after the first didn’t work.
Why is counting calories so fucking hard for people...
Keto was pretty cool, I did it for 2 yrs. Felt good, kinda hard to volume lift on. Easy to powerlift on. Easy to cardio on. It's not a meme diet, retard. Buddy has a better aesthetic and numbers than anyone on fit, type 1 diabetic, eating keto, and you don't have to count cals for the most part.
They don't do it because they don't want to, you and your gf and your pleb frustrations about it won't solve anything.
Counting calories did miracles for me when I weighed 300 pounds. MFP is a godsend for people who are just trying to stop eating so much. It's also really sustainable when you're at that level and not specifically eating for the gym, since you're only looking at calories at first. It also warns you if you're eating too much sugar or whatever. I'm also the sort of person for whom gamification is really useful, so for things like MFC or Duolingo, having a "days logged" streak is incentive enough for me to do it every day in order to get my number as big as possible.
The point being that, for someone who's just trying to lose weight, diets are shit, while calorie logging is the way to go. As long as they're being honest, which is the other challenge and really up to them.
>so for things like MFP*
I guess I've got porn on the brain sometimes.
Nah, Keto is a meme. I've cut down to sub 10% with a high carb diet. They all work. The only reason people think Keto works better than other diets is because you quickly lose water weight. If you cut on high carb progress seems slow even though it is not because you keep a lot of water weight.
>Keto works better than other diets is because you quickly lose water weight
Incredible, I must have had 55lbs of water weight to lose when I did a low carb diet a few years back. Maybe those fatties are onto something when they say that "it's mostly water". It couldn't possibly be that high fat and protein foods make you feel full for long periods of time and, by doing so, make you eat fewer calories. Nah, total meme and nothing but water weight.
Hunger can be a pretty powerful thing
how do you cut calories, and not feel hungry?
Isn't there a better way?
Congratulations, you ignore everything I have said. Jesus fucking Christ. When the motherfucking fuck did I ever say that Keto does not work? I said it doesn't work any better than other diets it just gives you the illusion of faster fat loss. Eating high carb doesn't mean low protein you moron. But an ex fat like yourself doesn't know what it's like to actually do real sports besides lifting.
>lose weight
Fat ppl problems
Wait, is this a scripted, new-4channel-style shilling thread made to advertise some shit product nobody wants under the guise of being "anonymous" people saying how much they like it? Are we going to have OP come in and recommend an app that he "just found" with his "girlfriend" that solves the exact problem he brought up in his first post? Is that what Jow Forums has come to?
Keto is 100% a meme
>make you feel full for long periods of time
Mfw fat faggots have to trick their body because theyre so undisciplined. Disgusting
So why are you complaining about your friends doing keto? You should be helping them instead because they don't seem like they understand how it works
You called it a meme and said the only reason people think it's better is due to the fast loss of water weight you fucking brainlet.
Maybe learn to read before you pick a fight eh?
no its hunger.
Have you tried intermittent fasting. You know when you get hungry? How would you like that to last almost all day? It fucking sucks.
How do you not be hungry?
>Eating high carb doesn't mean low protein you moron
You manage to eat more than 100% of the caloric breakdown of your food in macronutrients per day? Does your breakdown look like, 50% carbs, 50% protein, 20% fat or something? That's incredible! You're an amazing person!
Keto is a meme because in the end it comes down to your calories. I've boxed for more than a decade and I know more about cutting weight as well as water weight than any of you fat faggots. When it comes to losing fat, keto makes no difference. In fact high carb always worked better when I was cutting because you can't do cardio intensive sports like boxing on Keto. It's fucking drains you and pretty much takes all explosiveness from you.
Some people just want to lose weight dude. Your friends don't want to do cardio intensive sports
>Have you tried intermittent fasting
Mate, you have obviously never seen how people in combat sports cut weight. Your IF shit is a joke compared to what we go through. You don't need to eat shitloads of vegetables to go through hunger, you need discipline
Woah, easy dude.
Just asking if has actually experience hunger. Most people never have. We live in the land of plenty.
>I'm a boxer, I know best for everything
You're really giving boxers a bad name here by being such a shithead who doesn't understand that not everybody wants to be you. Somewhere, deep down, you have to know that you sound like a preachy vegan telling everybody else that you know best.
>counting calories
the biggest meme of them all
Salmon + water is all you need
No, you are the ones who act as if they knew better. I have a lot of experience with cutting weight short term as well as long term. My only point is that Keto is a meme in terms of being faster than other forms of weight loss. If Keto works for you, I'm glad it does, I really am. Do whatever works for you but don't tell me it works faster than other diets. It might be easier for you to stay on a keto diet but again, it's not faster.
Because I live in South Asia right now you fucking retard
My fitness pal doesn’t have an option for “goat” bone stew
Agreed. Who gives a shit if its faster. Its gotta work for the rest of your life.
Diet is what you eat. Period
LCHF makes me lose weight without being hungry.
Same issue with friends, colleagues and housemate. I've lost nearly 120lbs and pretty much at my goal weight so everybody has been asking me on and off how I did it for a year or so, along with basic advice, I always recommend tracking calories - but pretty much all of them don't bother, or do for 4 days then quit.
I'm guessing it's because A: Bothering to log calories seems like too much effort and a lot of them are in lazyfuck mode (been there so I get it) and B: When you're counting calories, you're responsible and aware of how much you're eating - this is a good thing, but for those with less control it's probably like a nasty reminder of how they're fucking up. In that case, they can either lower their calories orrrrrr, go for the popular route of head in sand and stop tracking because "what I don't know doesn't make me feel bad".
Only guessing with bromemepsychology but that's my take on it.
myfitnesspal says i need 1300 more calories
i want them to be mostly protein and fat not a ton of fucking carbs
do i just say fuck it and get protein powder or something i can't eat this much meat
Just eat 11.82 ounces of creme fraiche.
>1300 calories
>130g fat
>5.9g carbs
am I supposed to eat almost a pound of shitty yogurt every day bro
I've boxed for more than a decade
user why are you in south asia
>keto isn't a meme!
t. keto meme follower
Because it's a massive redpill on the truth of their calorie consumption. So they rather choose to be in denial about it and complain about "muh genetics" instead to continue their degenerate lifestyle of over-consumption.
Calorie counting is really fucking irritating if you actually cook meals. And how is keto a meme diet lmao, you need to count calories and keep an eye on macros in mfp for everything you eat on keto if you want to do it right
Cause it's more involved than any meme diet.
>Take measurements: height, weight, body fat percentage
>Plug into TDEE calculator
>Subtract 500 calories from result to get deficit
>Use an app like myfitnesspal to log meals and weight loss
>Learn to measure/weigh food when making meals and how to portion when making a lot of food for meal prep
>Recalculate TDEE often to maintain 500 calorie deficit
You know this isn't a lot of work in practice, especially measuring/weighing food, that shit takes just as long as it does to grab an ingredient.
But describing it all is overwhelming to most people. What's more is they hear "deficit" and they panic cause they think that means they're going to be hungry all the time when I'm sure you and anyone else who has done this to lose weight know damn well you can feel satisfied while on a cut.
I've lost 60+ pounds doing this, the only time I experienced a setback was when I overate. What a big fucking surprise.
Despite my success, my friend refuses to follow through with this for the two reasons I described: he thinks it's too much work and he's worried about being hungry. No matter what I tell him he chooses to follow meme advice and then complains he has either plateaued or gained weight.
This shit makes me mad, but on the other hand it shows me that not everyone is going to make it and it's not my responsibility to compel them to beyond providing my own experience and advice.
>count calories
>still fat as fuck
the fuck is the point of this shit? ok so I eat 4000 calories? how the fuck does that matter?
You're not supposed to be eating 4000 calories for one thing. Holy shit how fat are you?
How is it irritating? You just measure the ingredients and punch the amounts into mfp which even has unit conversions. If it's a meal you make often you could just save it in mfp.
As for keto, even if you're not counting calories you still need to watch what you're eating otherwise it's not keto.
Smells like you're just making excuses here m8.
That's twice my sedentary TDEE.
>Calorie counting is really fucking irritating
It's really not. Once you've typed in the nutritional facts of a food item/ingredient into whatever app then it's moronically easy. All you have to do after that is just weighing the food and the app will take care of the calculations. Takes just seconds to do.
I've been tracking my food consumption every single day for almost a year now, it's effortless. There's just no fucking excuse in this day and age where we have apps for everything.
I work here (Bangladesh LOL) now
If any manlets want to come here you can finally feel at home. I’m fairly tall by western standards and have only met about 6 people in total who are my height. There are tons of men here who are the size of a western 12 year old
The downside is all the food is soaked in oil, incredibly carb heavy, and most of the restaurant options are either bakeries, fried chicken or hamburgers. Also avocados cost about $25 a kilo
I hate counting calories, cause if I make chili or stew w/ a bunch of random ingredients I have sitting around, I don't want to have to measure each thing, and then measure again when servicing. I'd rather just eat high protein, little to no processed carbs, and eat enough to be satiated, but to where I can safely estimate I'm eating in a deficit. That combined with cardio and lifting seems to work when I am cutting. I do the same thing when bulking, except I eat more and I'll have unhealthier meals more often. It's obviously not as efficient as counting calories, but I'd rather do that then add a math component to my cooking and eating habits.
eat dietary fibers
>barely any calories
>soak liquids and fill out your stomach
>dont feel hungry despite barely eating anything
there you go
Normies can't commit to any self imposed hard work.
The majority of the population is a bunch of retarded shitters.
What do you fucking expect?
I think most people just under-estimate the food they eat which makes them think counting calories isn't enough. They don't measure properly and don't put in stuff like condiments or that one small candy bar they ate in the noon break.
My only issue with MFP is that it's not as good with generic food, just searching for Chicken Breast will give you tons of meals you can buy at American fast food joints.
Look, it might only be my personal experience, but people who are morbidly obese (like I was), store way more water than somebody who's dieting and is less fat. I personally tried a lot of diets like high carb low fat, and it messed up a lot with my liver (had this sharp liver pain after maybe one month of high carb low fat, no pasta/junk and yes to veggies, beans and fruit) and bloated the fuck out of me. I was losing some weight, sure, but it was doing shit for my bloatness and water retention.
I tried out keto one year ago, and even if I couldn't mantain ketosis for more than 3 weeks at month (mom's a doctor and complained all the time), I managed to "cure" my water retention problem by a lot. Plus, my liver fat disappeared in 2 weeks and I never had episodes of liver pain. My blood sugar level is normal now even if I'm not in ketosis and I'm mostly cutting cals. Keto helped me with learning which types of food mess up with insulin and makes you crave more food. So yeah, it surely is a meme diet (in terms of pure weight loss), but people can learn a lot while doing a keto diet.
Calorie counting is bollocks. First your metabolism can be affected by a lot of stuff so BMR estimates are pure guesswork at best. And al though calories in calories out maybe true per se, you never know exactly how many calories this means. Second, it is unnecessary comolication. Unless you are cutting for a conoetition, your body knows exactly how much food to intake as long as you are eating the right stuff. Used to be 16-17% body fat few years back. Was kinda skinny fat. Then switched to higher fat intake. Not even keto. With the occasional fast. Been hitting the gym for the last 6 months too. And for the last few years i have been gravitating around 9-12% while paying zero attention to how much food I intake. Just my opinion but i find counting calories absolute waste of time.
Because when you start counting you realize how many calories are in literally everything that's been normal for you to eat your entire life so you get mad as shit because now you have to change a foundation of your existence. Also you get hungry and it sucks.
Everyone here is old enough and therefore should have enough experience in your own body to know how much to eat to lose weight and to gain weight.
How different foods work with you and how your body reacts.
Counting calories is for the most part pointless and a waste of time.
You don't even have to do it every day. Use it to choose a selection of low calorie dishes and treats and then just stick to them. You then only have to bust out the calculator if you change something up.
post body
>Calorie counting is bollocks
Somebody should tell doctors to stop with the parenteral nutrition.
1.3k calories isn't even a lot bro. If you're wanting protein and fat then just fry up a good steak or something. Use butter and the fat calories will fly up easy peasy, just make sure you don't leave it in the pan after.
Lots of fiber (baked potatoes, oats, brown rice).
Lots of protein (nuts, beans, egg, meat)
Lots of low calorie density meals (soup, salad, stir fry)
Everyone in here? Maybe. It is a fitness board after all, but your average dude on the street? No fucking way m8, they have no idea. Stupid shit like "oh its low fat I can eat as much as I want" "oh its just fruit its okay I can gorge on this" etc etc. People are just flat out not as aware of their own bodies mechanisms as you make out.
To say counting calories is pointless and a waste of time for your average fat person, its categorically, objectively, factually wrong.
Keto fags are such tards. Of course if your burger and fries consists purely of a quarter pounder, pickle and non bun you're going to lose weight. You've cut out 80% of the meal.
>Creme fraiche
>Yogurt
WTF MAN
no bun*
Hey faggot
not all of us are ebin warriors who happily starve and live life like they're in the army
Hello bondu
tumi kemon acho?
>Your body knows how much to intake
As an ex fatty let me tell you those signals can get messed up at the height of my fattnes I could no longer differentiate between being hungry and full.
Having not eaten for more than a few hours ment I was going to be real cranky regardless if my body had what bit needed (Wich it usually did and then some) or not this also resulted in me having to have a small meal before going out to eat just so I would be barable.
Establishing a calorie range and filling it with things that you would probably refer to as the right kind of foods helped me get used to a healthy calorie range again.
As far as meme diets go I think they are a nice way to break you out of unhealthy habits and doing them for a month and then moving on and establishing healthy eating habits you can actually sustain for years seems like a good Idea.
no fucking way that thing is only 290kcal
Just fast, fatties
>you have obviously never seen how people in combat sports cut weight
How?
fast. you dont get hungrier the longer you fast and after day 2 it starts decreasing. if you are fat then you wont feel hungry after 4 days.
No way is that donut 290 calories. Last I checked they’re like 180.
Wtf I've seen donuts go above 400
That’s called a sheetcake
>low carb is a meme
>low fat is a meme
Anyone considered that people are different and react differently to different diets?
Pic fucking related, both diets saw weight loss and weight gain, do what works FOR YOU
So everyone eventually gained it back at the end. Great results at first, but with both of them by the end you gain all the weight back plus some.
What are you talking about?
desu feel like it's having the willpower to overcome the hunger that'll help weightloss a lot more than some fad or app; as simple as not eating, you get used to it after a while
I've gone a few days without eating, before. If you've the discipline it's not that hard to ignore hunger pangs
>mfw skeleton
>mfw don't even know what the word "calories" even means
also fuck niggers
Didn't read trough whole thread but posts like these further ensure me that nobody on this board actually lifts besides handful of people
calorie counting doesn't have to be perfect, you could just google the calorie count of similar sounding dishes online. something like a bowl of goat bone stew and a chunk of bread would be around 350-600 calories depending on serving size
Don't gotta be defensive and make excuses, friendo
as long as you have a kitchen weight and control your own cooking counting calories is easy as fuck, like seriously it consumes like ten minutes of my day in total
>someone who has tried keto doesn't think it's a meme
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm everyone on keto must be crazy right!?!? No way YOU could be wrong
Drinking a shit ton of water, making your meals really fucking good ones and treating that sensation of hunger as progress is helping me. I've unintentionally started intermittent fasting, usually only having 1 - 2 meals a day. Right now my concern is losing fat, as I'm 6'7", 17 stone and really strong. I've been lifting for a while, but not seriously, and to show for it I have a 'strongman' type build. But I don't want that anymore, being strong is cool, but I want to be rid of these moobish pecs and gut, they make me insecure.
But to get back on track, I'm a poor uni student who parties alot and during a 2 week binge on coke, spirits, weed and mdma I was only eating 1 meal a day. I kinda started to like the sensation of hunger and thus have been doing it since. I'm not calorie counting, just eating sensibly and only drinking water. It feels good to have this progress for once. I even need new Jeans after 3 weeks of doing it.
>be in caloric deficit
>lose weight
>THE MIRACLE OF KETO
I don't get this either.
I also don't get how the fuck people manage to get 4-6000 kcal/day wtihout actually "trying". They just mash shit down their throats?
I have to actively plan to get to those numbers and I usually only do it for 2-3 months at a time because it's fucking exhausting working that into your schedule day in and day out unless your lifestyle is heavily built around it.
>I also don't get how the fuck people manage to get 4-6000 kcal/day wtihout actually "trying"
Because you're a skeleton? As an extreme example, one 800 gram cake in my store is 1600cal and I could down 2 of those for dessert if I wanted to in one day.
I struggle to keep my 2800 cal daily goal because I always feel hungry and I don't eat processed food. All beens, oats, rice and meat.
People are different. It's not that hard to understand, open up your perspective.
no you're just a paranoid schizo faggot
Gib paczek OP
This but unironically, even 3000 calories is a pain
If you eat that much, eating's no longer something you're doing to survive, it's a hobby. You don't have to be a skeleton to not have the time to eat as a hobby
how is it difficult? just eat twice as much lol
>I also don't get how the fuck people manage to get 4-6000 kcal/day wtihout actually "trying". They just mash shit down their throats?
>If you eat that much, eating's no longer something you're doing to survive, it's a hobby. You don't have to be a skeleton to not have the time to eat as a hobby
The point is is that I have to count because I always feel hungry. I was obese at one point of my life because I have 0 brakes when it came to food and many other people do.
And yeah 2800 is a hobby since I'm bulking, my actual TDEE would be somewhere at 2200-2300 right now
yee, messed up hunger drive can make it harder, good on you for cutting the weight though
Yeah, you for one clearly don't.
If you eat what's memed to you I see how.
1. Eat a huge ass bowl of Jew flakes, poptart and some jimmy Dean slider
2. Get breakfast milkshake from Starbucks
3. Lunch is a footlong meatball sub from Subway (because it's healthy) and a large Coke
4. Get a quesadilla burger at Applebee's and some wings, chocolate brownie for dessert
Assorted chips and other munchies throughout the day, a few sips
I actually cook. I don't have a shitty app that I type in the brand of fucking Sandwich or Donut I'm pigging out on. If I ask my butcher about fucking calories in my burger or croc he'll look at me like a spastic
I don't count calories , you mad brah?
do you know how annoying it is to count calories in a home cooked meal with a lot of beans, squash, and rice? people who actually try to cook huge pots of healthy food to eat on during the week, it totally is a pain in the ass.
now if you're just eating boiled chicken with broccoli or some ready made meal with info on the packet, then you have no excused
fiber rich foods
reminder that counting calories is only for people with eating disorders (skellies and whales) so they can learn what proper portions are.
if you're still counting calories at a healthy bodyfat percentage and exercising regularly, you should already have learned how much you can eat. if you gained some, just modify your eating the next two weeks.
tldr: only people who haven't gotten their eating disorder under control count calories
>do you know how annoying it is to count calories in a home cooked meal with a lot of beans, squash, and rice?
Annoying? It's easier. Count the total, weigh total weight, divide to calculate cal per 100 gram and done. I do it all the time.
>eat a caloric deficit while on keto
>lose weight
>KETO IS A GOD DIET CICO DOESNT WORK
