Whats the verdict on farmers walk
Meme?

Dont do them if you are not a farmer unless you want your gym membership revoked and possible jail time

>simulating manual labor
Absolute state of goys

One of the hardest, and most enjoyable exercises out there

They’re pointless unless you need to improve grip strength for deadlift or if you’re competing in strongman comps

They're good for core strengthening, indirect neck training, grip strength, and can be used for conditioning as well depending on how much you want to play around with the weight

they're good shit

Deadlifts aren't pointless?

give me the sickest upper body pump

What weight should I start with?

Walk around gripping a plate in each hand!

They’re surprisingly hard, especially if you do them after pull-ups/rows/deads

I would say that about 50-70% BW for 3 sets of 1 mins with short rest periods is a good starting point provided you’re not a bloatlord

They're really fucking good. Contrary to popular opinion, they're more than just a grip exercise. Trying to stabilize a heavy weight while walking is amazing for building core stability and bracing. Getting good at bracing has carryover to literally every single lift. Literally every single one. Don't tell me you can't feel it in your core if you're walking with less than bodyweight in each hand. When it gets heavier, the benefits get better. It also gets you a nice trap pump. This is the missing lift for most people. It's fucking good.

what if i can only do this standing? (no space to walk)

walk in place

what?

Well, I worked on an actual farm and very frequntly had to carry heavy buckets of water and shit like this and people ask for my routine despite never setting foot in a gym, so I'd say it's not a meme.

Slide to the left

is that 50% bw in each hand, or altogether?

Literally grab some dumbbells that are somewhat heavy but you can still grip them

You're appropriating farmer culture. Stop this shit, it's not okay.

So is lifting, but here we are

fun exercise, good forearm pump if you do it for a relatively long distance

Why did people meme this into an actual exercise.
Just carry dumbbells from the rack to your bench. There's your fucking farmers walk, you should be doing it every single workout

hook grip farmer walks are great mane

I use it to warm up my forearms for heavy lifts. I can get a decent forearm pump from it

Fucking amazing for grip strength as well as forearm and upper back muscle development. I'll go relatively heavy for 3 sets 20-30 seconds, then go until failure with 50 or 60 pounds in each hand, and I get a great forearm pump. My grip has improved dramatically on deads as well. They're far more than just a meme.

Slide to the right!

>less than bodyweight in each hand
so you mean to tell me that i need 200 lbs in each hand?

>not just bringing the bench to the dumbbells

Doing it with dumbells is reddit tier use a hexbar or proper implements

I use barbells for farmers walk since my gym only has baby weight dumbbells but I've been getting some nasty looks walking around with them. What do?

nigga wat?

Attached: 37e7837.jpg (800x800, 61K)

drop the barbells as loud as you can and shit on the floor while making direct eye contact. they will respect you then

Fuck them. Do u

not functional unless you use farming equipment

>hexbar
>not reddit
Use bales of hay or nothing at all.

My buddy works as chief counsel for the USDA. He can probably pull a few strings and make some charges disappear but it'd be a hell of a favor to call in

Take it back now y'all

One hop this time

Useless.

Lel

if you're only able to do a farmers walk with weight you can press or whatever the fuck it is you're doing with those dumbells you're not doing enough weight AND your grip sucks.

people claim it builds traps but there's probably 10 better exercises I can think of for traps.

I have yet to get a forearm pump from anything else the way I get one from a couple sets of farmers walks. Not even. From maximal deadlifts. Not from rack pulls. Nothing. Holding that weight and walking around is something else entirely.

This is a retarded argument. It's like saying "people say deadlifts build your hamstrings but I can think of 10 different exercises that do it better." The statement is true, but it's a strawman because, like a deadlift isn't just for hamstrings, a farmers walk isn't just for traps, it's for forearms, biceps, rhomboids, core, quads, etc. It doesn't matter if certain exercises build a muscle group better, farmers walks achieve trap growth in addition to numerous other benefits.

Post body.

Carrying anything heavy, especially of irregular shapes, is excellent for stabilizers and all sorts of like structural and bracing type muscles. Tradesmen and farmers have these types of muscles. It can really help your lifts and it’s so fun. Farmers walks with concrete bags and some post home digging sounds like a good time

thats why you do them in your apartment while you scream and rant about kikes

Pointless with dumbbells, has to be heavy weight on a trap bar or handles.
Also what is wrong with this guy's physique?

I'm not really a fan because it feeds into scapula downward rotation, which includes the pec minor. It is better to do waiter carries and so on, which give you some upward rotation, and also increased stability demand.

>pointless with dumbbells
why?

it isnt
youre an idiot, we all arent in WSM

>he doesn't superset shrugs with his overhead farmer's walks
Never gonna make it.

190 lbs 3-4 sets of ~15 meters
I do em once a week as a finish to my pull day

You get
>the greatest vascularity pump
>functional strength to lift your “plus sized” gf
>more grip
>full core
>hit those meme stabilizer muscles
>neck and glutes

It’s bretty good desu, I’ve noticed only good things since adding them in.

This. Constant exposure to labour will give you a body that's good by normalfag standards

>I use barbells for farmers walk

Shrugs are a meme. Farmer's Walks are the GOAT.

Yeah well I need to improve grip strength for deadlift so guess I'm gonna carry that weight bucko.

They're also great for shoulders.

nigger what

Attached: 1530728137725.jpg (250x238, 8K)

I dunno man. I can deadlift 315 for reps but I need alternating grip. I can do 225-245 at the heaviest double overhand for a few reps though.

So I can do farmer's walks with 100 in each hand for a fair distance though after I worked on it a bit. I started using just 70 in each hand.

I think the idea for the weight you use is the most weight you can hold on to for the relatively short distance you walk with it.

Though I've got adjustable dumbbells up to 75 I have at home that I'm planning to use for longer distance walks around the neighborhood.

It's not pointless with dumbbells. In fact with dumbbells you have to have finger strength with your grip to hold your fist closed and prevent the damn thing from rolling out of your grip.
