I started wrestling when I was in sixth grade and did it all year round until sophomore year of college where I was forced to retire because I sustained 6 concussions in 5 months one of which I was ambulance to the hospital because I was having a seizure on the mat. That was two years ago and I literally feel completely empty I’ve tried substituting it with lifting and currently am lifting twice a day 5 days a week but this was only a temporary fix. I’d like to maybe try jujitsu but I’m honestly scared of getting more permanent brain damage from another concussion. So honestly how am I supposed to cope with something that was such a huge part of my life being ripped away from me

How do I cope with not being able to wrestle
Realize theres more to life than getting your face slammed on the mat. Seriously I get you love wrestling but surely you knew it had to end sometime in the next few years. Focus more on whatever you're studying and find something competitive to do that doesnt involve getting your head hit
I don't know man I get that it had to end sometime but it was my dream to be an all American and I was forced to quit before I even got to live up to my full potential.
Think of it this way, is there anything you can do about any of that now? You have to accept that something you can't change has happened and turn your attention to the future, feeling bad about what could have been doesnt help anyone
What about coaching user? I was also a wrestler, and there are no sports like it. Boxing is cool, but wouldn't help with the concussions.
i've thought about that but i haven't talked to my high school coaches in forever i don't even know where to start
Jiu-jitsu is a lot better for not getting concussions. You will likely get other injuries though so don't assume it's safe, keep your body nice and limber and healthy if you do decide to do it
Really which one would have the least risk judo or Brazilian?
Take up fencing. You won’t get a concussion unless you fleche into a wall or some dumb shit.
Where you doing Greco? Jiu jitsu is the wrestler Boomer de facto hobby my man. You will be totally safe in any jiu jitsu class. It's no where as intense as wrestling was.
Brazilian would have a lower chance of head injury, although I like judo better. Getting thrown is probably not conducive to cranial health
Probably BJJ if you're worried about the impact with the mat. Sometimes while rolling on a crowded mat you might get a bump on the head from some other pair, but I've never experienced serious concussive force.
Bjj would have less risk forsure.
Been training 3 years and have only suffered minor injuries to my own stupididty.
nah i did folk style and freestyle
thx anons ill give it a try
Godspeed
It would have ended in the near future either way. Either at the end of college or when it did.
Inb4 he goes as "that new guy" and crushes everyone with his wrestling. Oh the feels
Watch vision quest and do opiates. Or try BJJ you're way less likely to suffer a concussion.
Sparring starts on the butt or knees and stays on the mat. You will be fine man. They call it the gentle art. Get started asap or you will be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner. Have fun man, you will probably get your blue belt in a year. It's just like wrestling brotherhood except way more chill.
USA wrestling. Or contact a H.S. near you. Many programs would love help.
Nothing like reliving your Glory days than by putting ob your high school singlet and smashing some hipster at your regional submission grappling tournament because he doesn't know how to grapple from anywhere nother than the guard. *Sip*
No question. Judo probably has a higher risk of concussion than wrestling, probably by quite a bit.
BJJ you can just pull guard. Concussions are quite rare. They do happen, but risk is lower.
