Does anyone here do boxing/sparring? If so, how do you get into it. My gym atm doesn't have any punching bags let alone anywhere to spar or owt, though there is a gym slightly further away, more packed, where my friends go with many more machines. I've always be tempted to go and have a spar with a few of my friends but I never can be arsed or I'm just insecure of my skill in the sport
Boxing and sparring (+how to get into it?)
>what is a boxing gym?
I don't believe there is any boxing gyms in operation anywhere near me. If you read my post it also clarifies my unsureness of doing it. Its funny, assumedly I should have the genetics for the sport because my brother without spoiling my whereabouts was a boxer. I just wish I got into sports as a whole a lot younger
Go to a real boxing gym, get some wraps and gloves (don't skip the wraps). Spend a few weeks learning technique before you get in the ring and spar. New people always think they're doing good in the ring until someone films them, then you see how bad you actually look.
Keep in mind that brain damage is very real and there's no tried or true method to tell how susceptible you'll be to it. I got concussed in a big way in a smoker a few years back and have never mentally been the same, therefore I stick to drilling and stay out of the ring. All it takes is one guy with big hands trying to be a hero to give you a lifetime of trouble.
But otherwise its fantastic exercise and teaches you to adapt to pressure.
Why the fuck don't you ask him then
Also, without being trained by a boxing gym, how do you attain that boxer physique, something more like Ali than Tyson
Thanks man, I'll try looking into it more. I'm not sure if it's just a phase of mine or something I really wanna do, recently I've just been watching Tyson and Ali fights and watching videos on technique
Well I'm not really that close with him. I've him about heavy bags and things but not really asked him to teach me or owt
My cardio ain't the best by no means but I'd say it's a tad better than most. I cycle and just go out with my friends a lot and I always do at least 10 mins on the treadmill when I go to the gym. I've asked my best friends after doing this thing if they'd be into some marine-esc training
I think my plan of action atm is to buy a heavy bag and if I throw some punches I seem to be alright, then I'll start sparring and if that goes well, hopefully I can find a good boxing gym. My punches are weak as shit though. My uppercuts are alright at best and my hooks are possibly worse than my jab. Though I believe my jabs are pretty decent
>me in the bottom right
>tfw got a bruised rib from sparring
>took two weeks off, came back again but just did regular techniques and cardio
>mfw fucked up my rib again in one of the training sessions by myself this time
>buy a heavy bag
Don't do this.
Why?
go to a real boxing gym, youll end up breaking your hand or wrist if you dont have someone teach you correct form, and youll look like a fag punching.
It's expensive and lots of gyms (even non-boxing gyms) have them.
They're only like 50 quid, trust me they ain't that expensive
I suppose but I don't believe there is any in function nowadays near me
>be me have sparring session today
>spar 2 guys 2 min match each it going ok they are both passive figthing style like me I parry jab weave etc
>next oponent is a nog. Legit has no tecnique just rushing me I back of and get to ropes fuck take a beating dunno how to fight this guy cause he is unpredictable af. give him a hard proper jab blocked it looks hurt he starts runing away like a bitch I run after him.
>coach says dont chase "dunno why desu" I didnt chase and he proceeds going for jabs and runing away like a bitch wtf¨
>mind you I've been sparring like 4 times and had 10 or so boxing sessions so I dunno wtf to do ¨
>he got a couple head jabs on me and a left hook on my ribs legit made a huge sound didnt hurt at time but now it fucking does.
>think of ways I will fuck this nigger up next sparring session I wont hold my punches
Huh, thought they were more. Still, make sure you have somewhere good to hang it.
Serious question (i´m glad this is an anonymous board):
does it hurt a lot to get punched in the face when sparring? And how long did you guys box until you just got used to it? I Have a boxing gym here in this new town I moved to recently but I am scared to go desu
they do hurt specially if its a good punch if not it will just hurt a bit if your getting punched on your head its a reminder that your gaurd is slacking. also if your scared of sparring just ask the sparring partner before sparring that you wanna go light and focus more on technique i guess
Getting punched in the face can be painful, id describe it as "shocking" but getting hit hard in the stomach is so much worse. Idk how long it will take you to get used to. I have been half-assedly going to a boxing gym for about 6 months and I'm used to getting hit
join an actual boxing gym.
No it doesn't hurt so much as it can be very jarring if you don't roll with the punch or you have a glass jaw
I want to be the next champ, how do I become so?
Just do grappling. your brain will thank you later
Fuck that do Brazillian Jiu Jitsu instead. You won't get cte but you might fuck up you knee a few times.
>been training in sambo/judo whole life
>come from long line of semi pro boxers from soviet union
>really want to start boxing
>but Im already 20 years old
>also scared of getting brain damage because Im trying to get into medical school right now and Im already stupid enough
dunno what to do tbqh
Start at 7 years old.
muay thai
do it
If I'm an eyeball cripple (glasses) should I just do BJJ instead?
I've beem wanting to do a martial art for a while but I wear glasses (can't wear contacts bc lol poorfag) and I have MEGA autism so I'm really scared to try
Don't do contact sports if you don't want to risk getting a brain damage. I've been boxing on and off for about 2 years now and pretty sure I've suffered mild concussion at least twice during sparring. Boxing in general is fine but sparring is just not worth the risk for people such as you.
How about sparring with light touches? No head hunting. Would that help you with learning how to fight? I have no intentions ever to compete because brain damage scares the fuck outta me and being 30 i will never be champion, so theres no point in going all in. I just like learning martial arts and new skills.
My dream was going competitive in boxing but i was fucking garbage physical wise, like bottom tier human being, now after some years its mostly fixed and i am (in my opinion) in a much better spot than most people, can i still go competitive if i am approaching 22?
You need a boxing coach. Or your loser larper.
You memorize bad habits, that will get you knocked out. You can't get out of this. If you fight someone more skilled, they will pick you apart. Then kill you.
Take some private classes.
Your best off running for cardio, and getting super skilled at the jump rope. This will help you learn faster. As your cardio will be on point.
I would only spar once every 6 months, for the causal. Fighter, 2 a month.. Maybe more...a lot more
I guarantee you that your technique is dog shit. Just go to a real boxing gym, they are literally everywhere.
Again, I don't believe there is any in function near me
Other than that, you're right
Just gonna specify, I'm not thinking of becoming a professional boxer or anything (though I am tempted) I just wanna take it up cause of interest
ALSO (if anyone knows) is the ASOS 4505 clothing good? It's cheap and looks good so I was tempted to buy some of their pieces in bulk cause I've just been wearing the same fucking tracksuits for ages
